40v battery kits very pricey

usually I wait for Dual kit promotion to buy so to have batteries.
After that I will just compare price of solo tools between Malaysia and China.
Makita tool are build strong to survive journey from china to Malaysia.

Hi sifus! Looking for some advice for the right tool for a drilling holes into Corian (solid surface countertop).

I'm planning to install an undersink filter with a filtered water faucet (the small kind for drinking water), and I need to drill through countertop because the sink I have is undermount, no surface to put the faucet.

Borrowing a friend's Bosch tools, but he insist need rotary hammer, while I think an hammer drill is sufficient because it's more resin compared to quartz.

What is sifu's opinion? Drill or Rotary Hammer?

Solid surface go for normal dril & screw driver only.
Can decide bosch or whichever cheaper brand, Bosch 18v GSB185-li or 12v 120-Li
Hammer drill like Bosch GBH180-Li good for drilling solid brick wall or RC column.

Impact driver can consider too

Just use drill w/o hammer mode. There is a risk of cracking if you anyhow hammer it. For nicer hole use those diamond tipped bit from CN eg. https://shopee.com.my/VOKTTA-6-8-10-12-14-1...760.19281499735

Thanks sifus for the tips.

Yes concerned the hammer of a rotary hammer might crack the solid surface (it's a large L shape counter, if crack might get expensive to replace 😭). Will research further.

100% nope. 18V packs from bosch/makita don't use this shape of 12V batt.

A bit worrying since later may need to get spare battery if one is not enough.

Technically for compatibility's sake you could always get a used makita or bosch cordless drill driver. Those are easy to get replacements.

Just want to get advice from sifus here.

I am thinking to get Bosch 18v cordless drill for home improvement/repair use.

But not often will use the drill, maybe less than 5 times a year, will there be any issue with the battery because seldom using it?

Is it still recommended to get the cordless type?

Cordless drills are really convenient. They are more suitable for driving screws than corded drills due to the rotation speed. As for battery life, I notice that used or not used, there is a lifespan. Corded drills don't have this problem.

I honestly think you should get something like a Keelat drill instead of a Bosch due to the expected times you are going to be using it. A "Keelat KCD007 20V Brushless Drill Set" costs about RM 150 online as a set with 2 batteries. Replacement batteries are cheap-ish should you need to do that in time. I also don't think Bosch should be the only brand to consider in the Professional "cari makan" workspace. Maybe 10, 15 years ago yes but not anymore.

There are 2 main type of battery pin-out. MT or Makita style, and DY or Dayi style. There are converters for one to the other in case you want to build up the number of tools you have. You could even buy from a different brand like Bossman if you start with the MT battery type for instance.
