My solution to the heat generated. Simple laptop cooler below the router with two fan blasting from the bottom of the router. Steel surface below the router able to disperse heat quite well. Result is significant decrease of temperature of the router. I'm happy. biggrin.gif

Good job bro rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

I don’t need it so far though and mine have been quiet and warm, but not hot. You have to be sure that you clean the area underneath the cooler and around though as the fan will attract dust to the router.

By the way, did you update the router to the latest firmware?

QUOTE(blacktubi @ Dec 6 2017, 12:30 PM)
This is what will happen when I try to open some prohibited websites with TP-Link Homecare enabled.

It is pretty handy especially if you have users that are not really good with computer and it works on the entire network.
*
True, but yours is AC3150 v1? Looks a bit different from mine. V2 should be much improved.

QUOTE(blacktubi @ Dec 6 2017, 12:33 PM)
The antennas on the C3150 are designed to be upright for the best performance.

Those are PCB antennas and not really the same design as conventional antennas. biggrin.gif
*
Lol, thanks for the heads up. I was wondering if upright was the best position for them.

QUOTE(Jjuggler @ Dec 6 2017, 02:44 PM)
Awesome. After more than a month, i installed tplink tether app in my iphone 7 plus, it seems, my current c1200 (stock by tm) cannot be detected. However, before i sell my c7 to my friend, the apps can detect the c7 router. I guess the firmware for c1200 quite worse and got some bugs.
*
Bro, yours is AC1200 v1? Should be able to connect to the Tether app. Did you update your Tether app?

QUOTE(Eddx @ Dec 6 2017, 04:18 PM)
Can the coverage go up to 2.5 storey terrace house without repeater? currently doing some self research and was first interested to go mesh, but the price is too expensive, currently looking at either 2 mikrotiks or tplink with extender, but if C3150 can cover whole house, then why not?  biggrin.gif
Is it very hot? Because i'll definitely place it in the living room due to hypptv sweat.gif
*
The coverage is very good and definitely as bro blacktubi mentioned, it has on of the best coverage among consumer routers now, with excellent firmware.

QUOTE(blacktubi @ Dec 6 2017, 05:30 PM)
I have the C3150 and I guess it has one of the best coverage among consumer routers currently.

I prefer a router and powerline extender configuration over mesh for our Malaysia concrete houses. Mesh networking rely on wireless for backhaul and concrete isn't really helpful.

As for the heat, nothing much to worry. It is warm to the touch but the router is designed to run at much higher temperature.
*
Definitely router and powerline/extender conguration is the most optimal solution for now, over mesh networking.
And no, the heat is perfectly fine and it is not too hot at all. You need to elevate your router somehow so it can get some airflow at the bottom.

Select the Unifi profile. I am sure it is somewhere. Is that V2 or V4?

Not ideal.

I am hoping for hostname list blocking style since later version of TP-Link archers are based on open-wrt

If TPLink can add this package https://github.com/openwrt/packages/tree/ma...t/adblock/files  , it would be great

But TP-Link can't even fix C1200 V1 random reboot issue.  doh.gif
*
Not possible, as they used the Trend Micro database.

Mine is V4, no more option for unifi or other ISP to choose  sad.gif , i follow exactly the user manual but still not able to bring up the internet  sad.gif
*
You sure? Log into your router, go to ‘Advanced’, then ‘IPTV’, then click on ‘Mode’, and select ‘Malaysia - Unifi’. LAN1 will be for IPTV as a default, and LAN2, LAN3, and LAN4, is Internet. Enable ‘IGMP Proxy’ and ‘IGMP Version’ v3.

QUOTE(llk @ Dec 6 2017, 09:03 PM)
Yup, i discovered this part, i think i choose IGMP Version V2 instead of V3, will try again later, now went out for dinner.

Btw i found out a user review in Lazada stated workaround as below, he said need to connect the STB, my STB i never used at all since i installed my unifi 8-9 years ago, i got astro installed so i didn't need it, i also forgot where i keep  doh.gif
For the MAC clone portion, i try to get the value from my old router but when applied in tplink router it keep said format wrong.

Tips:
1) The dropdown boxes in the setup has sliders despite looking like it doesnt. At first i thought the selections in each dropdown was limited to what was shown, but you need to click and drag the right side of the dropdown to slide down to additional options.
2)Make sure you connect all cables including the STB (Hypp Tv box) in LAN1 even though you don't use it. Then start the quick setup. In my case it failed to connect.
3) Then setup the IPTV (despite failing the setup above) for malaysia-unifi in the advanced/network/IPTV tab.
4) I had to use MAC clone of my original TM router (found underneath the router). Choose 'use custom MAC address' and key in your original router's MAC.
5)Turn the router off & restart the modem, once it connects (around 2 mins) then turn on the router on & wait for it to connect.
6) In my case the internet connection LED only turned green once i opened the STB and opened hypp tv. Once it connects you can turn the STB off.
7) Have patience. For some reason this router takes more time to connect. While the original unifi router took 1min or less, this one takes 2-3 mins. I always leave my routers on 24/7 so its a one time annoyance for me. LOL

Yes, I saw that too. I am quite surprised it takes this amount of effort to connect to Unifi and get Internet access via this router. Good luck bro.

QUOTE(Eddx @ Dec 6 2017, 09:16 PM)
That's good to know, I would believe most of us will just let the router run non stop until need to reboot or when away from home for long periods biggrin.gif
Will buy it and give it a go smile.gif

C3150 at 899 + good extender at around 100-200, definitely cheaper than mesh networking solution sweat.gif
*
C3150 can be had for RM729, and not 899+. See here: http://www.lazada.com.my/tp-link-archer-c3...53bfXBDGoa&mp=1

Will also recommend this extender, although pricey, but well worth the price:

http://www.lazada.com.my/tp-link-ac1750-wi...e6dbvISlKW&mp=1

By the way, just a disclaimer. I don’t work for this seller lol. I have bought all my networking products from this seller many times and they are definitely reliable, so I am recommending him to you.

my friend, my current router supplied by tm is c1200 v1.
Yes bro. mine is C1200. My tether app is at latest update.
*
That’s very strange then. Might be the firmware update from TMt that is messing with the Tether app.

Haha bro, change that damn router if you can soon. If you can’t now, just use it first fir the meantime.

Because when you turn off the led's, you cant really know whether you turn off the wireless signal or not. Sometime it activates wps function. I will change the router soon. haha. For time being, i sold my c7 to my friend, and planning to get tplink c3150.

Wait for the 12/12 sale on Lazada bro. 5 more days. Will send you a message if there is a great offer.

QUOTE(llk @ Dec 7 2017, 06:04 PM)
Hi bro, the router antenna can be swapable with other brands? The reason i ask so is because i found the signal of the ac1750 rather weak compared with my previous asus router, before this i'm able getting full bar signal on my phone and laptop inside my bedroom with the door closed, however now with ac1750 the signal bar is fluctutated, both on 2.4ghz, i try 5ghz even worst, hardly getting full bar and sometimes signal lost, my phone auto changed to mobile 4G network. Not a good experience with this router to be honest.

I'm actually thinking buying asus 10dbi antenna to swap the default antenna for ac1750. Is it recommended?
*
Hey bro, sorry to hear that. I would think that Archer C7 v4 is an improved version over its older version, but it might not be the case.

I don’t think that would work. The antennae might not be compatible with the router, and if I am not mistaken, the 2.4GHz antennae is internal, and the 5GHz antennae is the one that you can swap, so even if you successfully manage to change the antennae to the 10dbi one, your 2.4GHz is still going to the same. You might get improved reception with 5GHz, if the swap is compatible, but don’t expect 2.4GHz reception to improve.

However, in saying that, did you try using a wifi analyzer to analyze the wireless network around your place? There might be interference or congestion, so I would recommend you do that and try changing the wireless channel to a channel where it is not so congested. I would recommend WiFi Analyzer from farproc if you are using an Android mobile phone or Acrylic WiFi if you are using a computer to scan for wireless networks. It is better if you use your computer as you can see more wireless networks with the more powerful wireless adapter in your computer., compared to mobile.

Hi bro, i got the result as attached, again i lost internet connection again on 5ghz while replying this post  doh.gif . Btw how to check whether i got any interference? The highlighted in red box are my network, Sorry i'm quite noob in this area.
*
No worries bro. You can see interference by the number of networks around you that have the same channel as you or close to your channel, and their RSSI values, which is quite similar to your value

From what I can see, on 2.4GHz anyway, it looks quite congested with a few other channels close to your channel, especially chuan02 and sksalahahmed17. It looks worse on 5GHz, with all other channels close and far to you sharing the channel bonding of 4 same channels on 80MHz.

Since you are using Acrylic Wi Fi Professional Trial, click on your network and click on the ‘Network Quality’ Tab. There will be more information. You can stay on Channel 11 for now for 2.4GHz, as it seems to be the least congested. For 5GHz, adjust your MHz to 40 MHz and manually select Channel 149 and above.

wtask i bought tplink w8961n and want to used replace maxis wired broadband supplied modem. but after typical setting (username etc) still cant connect to the net. any idea why?
*
Just one question, are you currently on Maxis Fibre? If you are, the TP-Link W8961N will never be able to connect as it is a modem router and not a router only, and is meant for Streamyx connections anyway, and I am sure it does not support VLAN tagging. See here for a list of TP-Link routers that support Maxis Fibre:

Would like to ask is that possible using the tm provided AC 1200 and setup a bridge Wi-Fi connection ? Currently using C3150 V1. Thanks

It is possible but why would you want to do so? Just use the C3150 v1 is more than enough.

I wanna make the ac1200 as a repeater for my computer use. Save cost on buying AC Wi-Fi adapter  smile.gif Can you please guide me on how to do so ?
*
Okay but it won’t be able to work as a repeater. It will only work as an access point or AP. See below for instructions on how to do so. Keep in mind that it will require a direct connection either to the router or an Ethernet wall jack. It can’t do that wirelessly, unlike an extender:
