guys, I am thinking of either getting a S8 or Mate 9 . What worries me about the S8 is the battery life. How is the battery life of the S8 with FB , whatsapps on the whole day but no gaming? Can it last 6.30-11pm?
*
QUOTE

In 2017 with a mate 9 you get an older tech of curve edge
No iris scanner
No ip68 rating
No Samsung experience
No big screen 6.2 inch
No apps edge
U get sunny optical with Leica branding without real leica performance
No aod
*
depends on whether u need the below features for an additional price of rm600-rm800... depending where u able to find the cheapest deal for both mate 9 and s8.... and s8 on paper looks the same screen size as mate 9... but the screen ratio of s8 is quite weird.... would suggest u go for s8+ for better comparison on the battery and the screen size feelings... which would be around rm800-rm1000 from a mate 9 already....

Mate 9 is a good phone no doubt about that, very smooth, camera quite good (but low light is disappointing), very very good battery life.

I switch to s8+ only due to 2 factors - ip68 and edge to edge display. Others in the list above are just own preference, some fancy those, some won't.

Mate 9 update is very bad. It still stuck at feb android security update. This is unacceptable for 7 month old phone. This is like huawei totally forsake the mate 9

Not really if u say spec u can get one plus 3t for just merely 2k. Why pay till 3k.
Yes I remember the hassle I need go to hello station to exchange one old HTC because phone lag so much and m8 wanna change the casing dot matrix accessories all official store no more

For a flat screen and shiny back and thick bezel nah not worth 3k
*
In all honesty a flat screen is probably easier to manage in terms of protection and casing, ha ha. And looks are fairly subjective, to each his own smile.gif

I'm not into those China brands, so One Plus 3T is not a consideration for me.

Any idea if this aukey car charger will work with S8 fast charging? Sold at 11street for rm59, seems like okay price too.

the squeeze function they keep promoting is to squeeze and take pictures..

wont your pictures be blurry or out of focus then.. Talk about gimmick doh.gif

If they promote the squeeze function by showing it opening or doing other stuffs then still understandable la.

But this... Taking a picture while his hand shaking madly because squeezing the phone. Brilliant job, HTC. doh.gif

FYI the squeeze function can be remap to what ever you want... and i believe in the video he demonstrate that he launch the camera by squeezing, not take picture...

of course I know it can remapped. I'm talking about the advertisement, adverts are what convince people of your phone's functionalities. In this case, it gave me an impression of it being a gimmick more than a useful feature.

and no, i'm not stupid. I clearly saw a video of a person being in the camera app and then squeezing to take a picture. and also a lot of tech youtube reviewing this device also end up doing taking picture while squeezing to show how this feature function. Like omg cant they see how ironic is it and use other apps/steps to demonstrate the squeeze feature? Opening the camera app like you said would have been better.

This is just ONE of many adverts and youtube reviews for the phone that I saw.

The standby time on my S8 plus is honestly terrible, every time I see my phone it'll drop 1% (like every 15 minutes). Planning to do a factory reset this weekend.

cannot be helped, you're the only one complaining about battery life.

A lot here have advised you not to focus on the battery life for the moment, but yet. If you cant help yourself, neither can we.

Furthermore, you are using s8+, the battery is more than capable to last a person a full day even with gaming involved. But you still focus on the battery drain of it when idling..

Go ahead and do the factory reset, hope you will find an improvement after doing that. If you still unhappy, guess the S8+ is not the phone for you.

EDIT:
My point is, unplugging from 100% and it dropping to 99% is real, I myself experienced it before. But what i'm trying to tell you is that, the overall battery life can last me a full day's worth of activity, even with gaming. and im only on the S8, so S8+ should get better battery life.

especially the battery life when you are actually using the phone, it is GREAT.

The battery life dropping from 100% to 99% right after unplugging may seem like there's some fault to the battery, but sometimes when its 70% and while using it takes very long to drop lower. so maybe it could just be some software bug displaying the battery status.

But if you choose to keep focusing on the battery drain when the phone is idle, you are not enjoying using the phone to its maximum..
