We just got a puppy last week and we were training him to eliminate properly..but to no avail and when his in the cage he keeps whining even though we're nearby... can someone teach us the right and proper way to train a puppy...
*
How old is your puppy? If you see him walk in circles, you better carry him to where he is supposed to do his business for example newspapers, outdoor, bathroom, etc. For puppy is easy because when they wanna poo or pee, they will circle. Take this time to teach him, as often as you can, carry him and run for your life to the business area.

After he grow up, he will stop circling, then its even harder to teach. That time, no hint for you. For me, I will suggest just keep repeatingly bring him to the business area. Even when you cannot cope with the speed of him doing business faster than you can bring him, still do it. For a long time (some is 1 week, some is 2 months), he will come to understand.

Casper whines like crazy. When I brought him to the vet today, he whines. When he was at the vet desk, he whines. When he is at home, he whines. Sometimes, they just want to manja... Puppy ma, like babies - cant expect them to not cry right?

for pee/poo .. currently I'm also training my pup to pee/poo at newspapper. Night time, i cage him when i sleep. WAke up, first thing in the morning, i give him his breakfast IN THE CAGE. After he makan, i release him and bring him to newspaper - ask him to stay and shee shee. I leave him there for few minutes and he'll auto pee there. When he peed, I praise him and give him treats and stroke his head. Then 10 minutes later, bring him back to that newsppaer and ask him to poo. If he doesn't poo in within 15 minutes, i'll ask him to come and i'll play with him for 30 min like that. Then make him drink water and bring him to newsppaer again - repeat until he poo. Nite time after dinner, repeat the same thing lo. ASk him go newspaper pee/poo. If he did it, then treats lor. Currently he is sitll not 100% housebroken. Will still pee/poo on the floor sometimes and still dunno how to walk back to the newsppaer to pee/poo when needed. Need time lor. Jz repeat the process till he gets it in his head. But at least now he noes if he walks to the newspaper, he'll get treats from me biggrin.gif.

As for the eye discharge, take a piece of cloth and dampen it with warm water. Then hold his head with force and wipe lor. If he struggle, scold him lor. Ask him to stay lor. But truly speaking, i've neva experience this b4. My pup lets me clean his ears and eyes voluntarily without struggling.

What is it that you want to train him? Potty training is the first thing most owner wants. What dog and how many months?

Always target him when he is spinning in circles, sure got thing coming out! HAhaha...

Very honestly, I didnt believe it would work and every time he pee on the floor, I will push his head down and make him smell it and smack his butt gently, he will terkejut. Then over a period of time, I try to reward method and it really does seem better. So now, I want to endorse love-training for furkids, reward is the way to go..

Why is his eyes like that in the first place? Did you bring him to a vet for check-up before taking him home?

Hello my fren, he is your dog la, not you are his dog. You should be able to control him! What do you mean he wont let you clean it?

Tell you what. You try carrying him. Your left hand hold his right front paw. Your right hand hold his right back paw. Then bring him close to you and this way, his head will look to your left. Get someone else to clean their eyes then because this is the only way u can get ur dog to stay still.

You sure have lots of patient to potty-train your dog. Anyway, my casper is also semi- housebroken because now he is 7 months, seldom simply pee liao. Can tahan a few hours (6 hrs or more), so its ok for me to let him loose around the house. I calculate the last pee time and the next pee time. When come to near pee time, I will put him back in the cage.

pennywise, Hepy is 4 months plus, turning into 5 months old SOON. Last time he can tahan 24 hours din pee/poo at all. When I bought him home, i used the wrong way to teach him to pee/poo - jz like some ppl mentioned - hit his ass or scold him when u see him pee/poo at wrong spot. Punish him, bla bla bla. Those din work at all. It was a hassle and a huge headache for me to housebreak him that time. But now, he's improving a lot. I'm using the "treat" method now. And it does work. He's happy; I'm also happy. He gets his yummy treat and I dun haf to clean the floor so often .. hehe. Now when he did some mistakes, I din hit his ass or scold him. I only say frown and say "no, you bad boy" and I clean up the mess silently. This way, our r/ship also improves a lot. He's so bonded to me now brows.gif.

4 months can tahan 24 hours?! ARE YOU SURE?!?! Back when Casper is 4 months, he pee so much more often!! Like every 4 hours or 3 hours, he has to go once!!

Yes, I taught Casper the wrong way too until I read a book about training dogs. I always try to tipu him to the newspaper with feeding him treats near there. Give him the mentality that if he has nothing to be afraid of the paper and if he comes on to the paper, he gets a treat. Not exactly consistent but I only did it for a week, then he's paper trained.

Now just that sometimes he cannot find his way home to pee. I think I can share with you another way to bond with your dog, bring him to your bed to sleep with you in the afternoon nap. That's what I do and it helps but sometimes he gets to anxious that he gets up and walk around and round because he doesnt know how to get down from the bed. Just give it a try if you dont mind!

This sound very serious. If you are going to touch the eyeball sure he wont let you la. I poke your eye with my finger also you wont let me right? Sure you will struggle. If you not sure how to handle, please send him to the vet asap. All the best.

hey guys, hv a question here.
hope 2 get some answers b4 my 5 lil new born pups get take away by the council.

they r rott x spitz = rottiespitz [mogrels?]
born bout 2 weeks ago.
my parents made asked the carpenter 2 make a new shelter for them, which is like a dog house dat fits the mother and the 5 pups. a 50watt bulb is fixed on the "ceiling" to keep them warm, as junnie said. its on 24 hours, as my hometown has the famous name of "raintown", which it rains almost everyday.
we gave them puppy's milk as the mother doesnt have enough milk to feed all 5 pups. she's a lil skinny.
the pups keep on crying every minute, and we dunno wats wrong with them, even the vet says they're very healthy. eyes open already, think they can see us.
they oni stop crying when my bro carries them, n bring them into my house. my mom was a bit angry this morning, she whack one of the small butts cos the pup was crying too loud n its annoying, carried her inside the house, left her in my jack-jack's cage, on the fan. she immediately went quiet.

1. isit too hot ourside that they cant stand the heat and went crying all over? [i don think so cos it always rains, and the shelter is quite cooling. we left towels there 2 keep them warm in case its too cold]

2. the mother doesnt really like 2 go near them, n seldom feed them. y? how can i make her like her kids?

3. the way the pup cry is like crying 4 attention. after some1 pets their head or carry them they'll stop. y?
