hey thanks for prompt reply.

Can we extend the apple care plan to 6 years? Like this:

Standard 1 year warranty + Apple care plan + Apple care plan = 6 years warranty?

Sorry for asking such questions. My boss might ask me this so wanna keep all my areas covered. Btw my boss is a very gentle and careful user. His handphone lasted him 6 years and it's still in mint condition so I think his Macbook would last him a very long time.

No, Applecare is purchased once (within the first year) and will only last up to the end of your third year.

how do you get an ACPP? They'll send you a serial or something? A CD? A book? A certificate?

The standard ACPP is a boxed set, with a form + serial number, book of terms & conditions, contact info and a Techtool CD/DVD for troubleshooting.

To me the only important thing is the serial number which allows you to register you machine for Applecare. You can download the Techtool CD from Apple's support site once this is done.

Price wise, the typical list I see on Ebay for AppleCare is US$150-180 for Macbook/iBook. There was a time 1-2 years back when the local Mac retailers were selling ACPP for very cheap, around RM600+ for iBook level coverage but I haven't seen that recently. Standard price from Apple I think is RM979.

Due to the government tax, malaysia APPLE product pricing tend to be higher. sad.gif  sad.gif

Actually ACPP isn't being taxed. Prices at the Apple Store US is very similar to pricing here in Malaysia (US$250 or RM979 for Macbook/iBook ACPP)

No, it does not display the remaining number of days anymore.... it only displays your purchase date and shows whether your machine is covered by Apple's Limited Warranty, or the AppleCare Protection Plan.

I dont really need the box. I think they know that but how do you get someone over there to open it up and pass you the serial number. I do not have anyone I know there anymore. The guy at the bookstore I used to work at the uni may have already retired.

BTW, Singapore selling SGD303 which is about RM690. sweat.gif

Well, I bought mine from US. Dirt cheap, I can't get anything close to it here. On top of that the seller shipping me the box, which contain the techtool delux boot disc. Why not wink.gif
