doh.gif what a "good replies" from upstairs.
He did not how much. But "does it help much".

Here's my answer... yes, it helps a lot. Especially when you have mobile mac. Can you imagine how much risk your laptop will face when u travel around with it?

Don't be supprise that the screen replacement or logicboard replacement will easily cost over RM1k. Which is as much or less than what applecare will cost you. Also not to forget the 24hr technical support phone that you can make sure to solve some minor issue (which many doesn't aware). If you talk to those technician once, you'll know what makes Apple different.

It's like buying insurance for your mac. Some ppl don't buy insurance. So when things happened, then will regret why they don't get it before. It's a gamble, whether or not your mac need major repair once the 1st year warranty expire. Also, having ACPP will rise your resell value.

It's not insurance, it's extended warranty. If someone steals your Mac Apple's not gonig to give a dime to replace it biggrin.gif

The level of service you get at least in the US is excellent. Typically 48 hour turnaround, sometimes they do it while you wait. From what I've heard here though, service in Malaysia leaves a lot to be desired...

macball,
Yes, I think it's advisable to get the ACPP, even if it's a little costly. As to which one we're purchasing, it is very much depending on our Mac system.

we're just giving an example. even if we say it's "mac insurance" there's nothing wrong with it, since every insurance policy have it's own terms.

Well if you start saving from the day 1 you have your mac. And giving you 1 week before the warranty expired to buy the ACPP. It only cost you RM2.50 per day saving to get RM899 in 358days.
And then you can enjoy 2 years of sweet dream, without worrying your mac stop working next day.

Well, I bought the Apple Care for my 30" Hi Def ACD. It costs a bomb though-rm376! But I thought about it for like 2 minutes n went for it coz the ACD comes with a really lousy 1 year warranty. So I extended it with the Apple Care plan.

Made me feel a whole lot better after I called them up to activate the plan. The call centre was super polite n treated me like the Citibank Concierge does. Excellent service! Bravo Apple. Make us pay tru our nose but treat us like kings. At least that makes the big hole in the pocket worth it. laugh.gif

What you MISheard you mean....

Don't tar everyone with the same brush. There are Mac resellers who employ salespeople who can barely spell their own name and there are Mac resellers who are extremely professional about the service they provide. As with every profession, you can hardly expect to find the same level of ability with everyone. Your job (should you choose to accept it) is to entrust your machine (and hard earned cash) to someone that engenders your trust.

To illustrate this point with an example: When my Aluminum PowerBook (bought in the US at launch) developed white spots on its display; VR Tech replaced the screen within a week (the replacement part had to ordered from SG - They swapped the screen while I waited). And when the problem recurred, the lead technician HAND-CARRIED my powerbook down to Singapore for Apple Techs there to examine. Turned out the initial batch had a faulty circuit in the screen.

So I've got no problems with the level of Apple support in Malaysia. Just don't bring your mac over to a shop that does not know the product they sell. Would you trust any old bengkel with your Porsche?

OK fair enough. The only reason I've not had personal experience is because I've never had any problems with my Macs that needed repair under warranty so far. I will say that my experience with Apple Malaysia sales staff (the guy, the lady who replaced him, and the nice man from S'pore) were all exemplary and professional.

I had posted a question on one of the threads on whether to send an under warranty item to the reseller or to an authorized service provider. It went unanswered, but thanks for your clarification. I'll make sure to use VR Tech whenever I need warranty repair biggrin.gif

It doesn't matter wher eyou send it in. Eventually it will ended up one of the few service centers. VR tech will very much likely be one of them for KL-PJ base Apple Center. It's just that which one you personally prefer and convenient for you. I bought my first iPod 40GB from Penang reseller. It died on the 9th month when I'm at the parking of Tesco in Mutiara Damansara. I had it replaced by Ikano Apple Center, which is the nearest.

technically they don't even have to ship it to you, just scan/fax the page over and get that serial number.

You really must trust the seller though in this case.

Hi, need some clarification here. My boss' MacBook warranty expiring this Sept. So if he were to get the apple extended warranty would get this:

a) standard 1 year warranty + Apple care plan = 4 years warranty?

or

b) standard 1 year warranty + Apple care plan = 3 years warranty?

hey thanks for prompt reply.

Can we extend the apple care plan to 6 years? Like this:

Standard 1 year warranty + Apple care plan + Apple care plan = 6 years warranty?

Sorry for asking such questions. My boss might ask me this so wanna keep all my areas covered. Btw my boss is a very gentle and careful user. His handphone lasted him 6 years and it's still in mint condition so I think his Macbook would last him a very long time.
