er, you can add RAM at anytime, AppleCare still will not cover it. AppleCare only covers everything in the original boxed set.
This is one of the reasons for getting customised Macs ... smile.gif

You can't be serious... Sorry, but I'd expected a better reply from you.

Of course AppleCare will not cover the RAM upgrade: meaning if something was to go wrong with the RAM chip that the user added: then you won't expect Apple to cover that under warranty. You'd naturally expect the RAM vendor to honor the warranty (in many cases this is a "lifetime" warranty btw) for ONLY the RAM chip.

That much said; Adding RAM would NOT void your AppleCare warranty for the rest of your machine. RAM after all is defined by Apple as a "user installable" part.

Actually, other than having too much money; and too little sense; I can't think of another reason for getting a customized Mac.

I managed to get me the ACPP for my iMac when I was in Jakarta last week. Cheaper a bit from here...got it for about IDR1.4 million or roughly about RM530.

I have not registered the ACPP. My 1st year warranty is expiring Mid Dec 2007 so I got time.

Just a few questions though. Can someone confirm with me that if I register in say Sept. 8, 2007, the extended warranty will cover up to Mid Dec 2009 not Sept 7, 2009?

Also, I did a trade to get this iMac with another person who took my Macbook. I'm not sure if the actual date of purchase is the same as the date stated in Apple support page. Is it important to ensure that the two dates are correct? If so, how do I check the actual purchase date then?

Thanks a bunch cool.gif

it will extend to the date you found on the Apple database. Let's say, apple.com show your warranty expired on 15 Dec 2007, it doesn't matter when u register ACPP, as long as it is before that day. U get extended to 15 Dec 2009. Like i said before, some Mac owner purhcase ACPP togehter with their mac wink.gif

Thanks wei.

Does it really matter if I dont double check the actual date of purchase and just rely on the date I found on the apple support page?

perhaps I should have been more precise.
if you add RAM, then AppleCare will not cover the RAM you added. AppleCare will only cover the contents of the original boxed set, nothing you add, even if its added by an authorised technician.

re : customised Mac.
if you travel with your portable Mac, then this makes slightly more sense. if its customised, with AppleCare, you can get any faulty part replaced overseas. If not, then that can't be done.

Normally they are pretty close. But there're some cases that the date are so wrong that make you worried. If that's the case, just fax the original receipt clearly stated the correct date of purchase to apple. They'll make the proper adjustment to the database.

In that case I need to contact the original purchaser lah. I hope he still keeps the receipt.

Thanks wei. smile.gif
