Actually wheel cannot replaced track. US army M1 will be accompanied by 2 Bradley IFV. Singapore Army Leapord2 with Bionix. Wheel will be more a stand a lone system as speed plays a part.

That should not be a problem most armoured vehicle are design for bolt on protection system but level depends on the engine capacity to take on the heavier load. For peace time is waste money due to fuel consumption.

Well, Wheeled =/= Tracked, so ideally another tracked APC chassis will be bought... but obviously this will only pass if we have oodles of cash which we don't doh.gif
Frankly I wouldn't be too unhappy to see us continue mass producing AV8

Another One Bites the Dust: Major arms depot falls to Islamic State
http://spioenkop.blogspot.my/2017/03/anoth...arms-depot.html

By Stijn Mitzer and Joost Oliemans

Just over a year after capturing Deir ez-Zor's Ayyash weapon depot in the largest arms haul of the Syrian Civil War, the Islamic State has once again got its hands on massive quantities of ammunition captured from a storage depot in Deir ez-Zor. This arms haul joins the list of other major instances where vast amounts of weaponry and munitions traded owners such as the capture of the aforementioned Ayyash weapon depot, Regiment 121, Brigade 93 and the Mahin arms depot, all but the last of which were at the hands of the Islamic State. Each of these depots provided its capturers with a wide array of weaponry, vehicles and ammunition that could immediately be used against their former owners, a major blow to other factions fighting for control over Syria.

A propaganda video released by the Islamic State, showing its fighters on the offensive in Deir ez-Zor, was the only footage released of the capture of the depot. The video, على أبواب الملاحم - 'At the Doors of Epics [Battles]', details the Islamic State's efforts towards splitting the regime-held territory in two, which they succeeded in doing so in February 2017. This means that the airbase and Brigade 137 are now completely isolated, further complicating efforts to supply both pockets and drastically increasing the vulnerability of the airbase. Despite the growing threat, it remains unlikely that the Islamic State will be able to capture either pocket. The capture of significant quantities of ammunition, including up to three million rounds of small arms rounds will surely allow the Islamic State to prolong its fight for survival.

This is an estimate of the ammunition captured, the real figures are believed to be higher. The contents of at least 652 crates could not be identified. Small arms are not included due to the small quantities captured.

Ammunition:

˜ 3,320,600* rounds of 7.62x39, 7.62x54R, 12.7mm and 14.5mm ammunition.
- 2,310 rounds of 85mm ammunition.
- 693 rounds of 100mm ammunition.
- 13 rounds of 125mm ammunition.
- 120 rounds of 120mm ammunition.
- 68 rounds of 122mm rocket ammunition.
- 15 TM-62 anti-tank mines.

Vehicles:

- 1 T-72M1 TURMS-T.
- 3 T-72M1s.

- 1 AMB-S.
- 1 Tatra 148.
- 1 UAZ-469.
- 5 cars.

Although assessing the exact contents of each spam can of small arms munition is impossible, by volume the total amount would equal roughly 3.32 million rounds of 7.62x39mm, or a slightly smaller numer distributed of larger calibres such as 12.7mm and 14.5mm. Regardless, truly a tremendous amount of small arms ammunition was captured indeed.

The kit exist it whether ATM and the Malaysian Mindef want to buy and install them. Not wrong the gempita was a replacement for Simbas APC. And the Lipan bara was for condor. So far no news on how many lipan bara was bought to replace the condor as some condor will be upgrade. Wheel vehicle are good on road where tracks are good on unprepared land condition. True tank or track got stuck in mud but stablity wise track win as vehicle weight is spread.

Madly overpriced

Ideally, buy another tracked APC, but in practice, no replacement plan. Well they are not incredibly complex machines, can run those things till they fall apart. But we won't have fancy-shmancy "vehicle network" tech lah.

For option wise there is a lot to choose from. The problem come from price with the TOT unless its a self design track ifv.
For Singapore the Bionix most probably will be replaced with the new Ngifv. But so far no news on that yet.

It overpriced cause they bought the whole design right for all the variant and also regional sale. Its the same as the Ngpv meko100. I think the LCS Tot is only for the 1st batch and 2nd batch still need DCNS negotiation.

After 50 years of National Service, we have not only built up a strong SAF, capable of defending Singapore and keeping Singaporeans safe, but also forged a nation through shared sacrifices and experiences.

This video pays tribute to the more than 1 million national servicemen who did their duty faithfully – for themselves, their families, and our beloved Singapore.

Here's a salute to those who have served, who are serving, and who will serve. Thank you for your service and your sacrifice!

singkie depends on conscripts.. if no buy-in will be a problem.. in times of emergency, if there's mass AWOL/deserters it would be resource taxing to punish everyone of them..

during the old-guard days everyone knows this but strawberry generation needs repeated reminding... so we brainwash them even before entering school

haih.. they always miss out the police and civil defense.. those guys are operationally ready even during ns full time..

Bizarrely, some writers have speculated that today's improved body armor has a strange side-effect.

More soldiers are surviving otherwise fatal injuries, but at the cost of permanent and often debilitating disabilities. These injured are severely overstretching the US military veterans aid agencies and limiting the number of those who could be helped by the agencies. This in turn is the leading cause of homelessness and often mental health problems for these disabled veterans.

Of course some do get help, but what about those who can't?

Lol, you should see the way the US armed forces advertise... even more power

But then they are a patriotic bunch, so not much nudging needed to get them to enlist. Times have changed, serving in the military is now a noble thing and there will be lots of ppl "thank you for your service" if you see them around in uniform.

My 2 cents, before this they would have probably been KIA without the help of modern armor and the PJs in their medivacs.

PH’s anti-submarine warfare helicopters to be armed with Israeli missiles

March 26, 2017 PNA Nation 0

The Philippine Navy (PN)’s first two anti-submarine warfare (ASW) helicopters will be armed with Spike NLOS missiles giving it a capability to engage hostile vessels beyond visual range.

The said weapon manufactured by Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. NLOS is short for “non-line of sight”. It was originally designed to destroy tanks.

PN spokesperson Capt. Lincuna said these helicopters are the AgustaWestland AW-159 “Wildcats” which are scheduled to be delivered by 2018.

The Department of National Defense signed a contract with AugustaWestland, now Leonardo, to buy two AW-159 ASW helicopters for PHP5.362 billion, March 2016.

It will be deployed aboard the two frigates the Philippines has ordered from South Korea worth PHP16 billion.

Lincuna said the PN will be using Spike NLOS as an anti-ship weapon due to its claimed range of 25 kilometers.

“The missile has a built-in camera that allows it to be operated day or night,” the PN spokesperson.

“The Spike NLOS weapon system can be operated in either direct attack or mid-course navigation based on target coordinates only. These modes enable defeat of long-range hidden targets, with pinpoint precision, damage assessment and the obtaining of real-time intelligence,” weapon manufacturer Rafael said in its website.

Lincuna said the missiles will complement the AW-159s’ detection and tracking equipment.

“The helicopters will be a full package, from detection, tracking, up to prosecution,” he said.
