u don't need a GB to run sql server, unless is an dedicated sql server serve 100+ clients, but i doubt u do this in ur notebook right.

I use celeron M with 256MB ram + a 40GB Hdd is more than enough
for a complete install of Visual Studio .NET + MSDN, Java J2EE, SQL server 2000, MySQL, Oracle and IIS.

btw, i'm using compaq 2240AP with price less than RM3000

but reviews seems to point out its very slow despite its processor due to its slow DDR 266 Ram?

If we upgrade the Ram would it be better( ie 256 - 512)?

Any guys hv any comments on this notebook.

I am thinking either this or your 2240AP but i need to confirm the order b4 the 13th of Feb.My original plan was 2240AP with a 256MB Ram upgrade until 512MB.

BTW is 2240AP Ram rated at 266 or 333?

Thanks

ddr266@ CL2 on the A60
whereas the ddr333 A40 toshiba runs at CL2.5

not much difference lah. personally prefer the a40 myself (spec in sig, model was A40-S110) because of the toshiba AC adapter (the A60 one is a liteon IIRC)

thanks for the feedback...if that is the case..would it be more worthwhile to get the 2240AP rather than the Toshiba A60?

If its the A60 are you recommending that we should not upgrade the Ram as it wont be improving the performance by much?

Thanks again...

Increase RAM from 256MB to 512MB or more will definitely increase the speed. Also, change your hardisk to 5400rpm instead of 4200rpm will also increase the speed.

As for notebook recommendation, I recommend you to surf www.hp.com.my, www.dell.com.my, www.acer.com.my and finally go to LYP and look at the clone laptop. smile.gif

i find this to be useful to newbies interested in notebooks..

FYI

Solution Title: Celeron vs Celeron-M
asked by NickGrayson on 09/23/2004 07:44AM PDT

Can anyone explain or point me to a site which compares performance of the Celeron with the Celeron-M. Intel don't seem to want to release any comparative figures.

I know that the Centrino technology gives more power per clock cycle, but don't know if any of this applies to the -M.

The reason I ask is that I have had a batch of faulty laptops which were Celeron 2.6GHz and the manufacturer has agreed to swap them for a similar spec machine but which has a Celeron-M 1.3GHz processor (but not Centrino).

Answers:
A Celeron-M is a little less powerful than a Pentium-M, and a Pentium-M 1.3 is about equivalent to a P4 2.4: http://www.cpuid.com/PentiumM/index.php

Since a P4 is always faster than the same clocked Northwood Celeron (http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20020903/index.html), that would mean a Celeron-M is significantly faster than the same clocked Northwood Celeron.

Personally i am using S7010(RM12888), the high end model. If you wanna get the lower end of S7010 it's RM8k plus.
S7011(RM7388),with finger print technology is the upgrade of S7010. Both system gets heated up after long usage.

warranty: 1 year international (labour + parts), 2 years domestic (parts only). they are available in malaysia

Toshiba -> I am and the my casee made made from cheap material, the spec not worth the price
Fujitsu -> I am very thin, but easy to break
Acer -> I look very solid and rich with features, however i think we need to improve our QC
Dell -> I am littlbe bit more expensive than compaq when compare to their model with the same spec side by side, however i am tough. and i have a body guard. Damn i wish i have a good speaker, recommend model 8600, m510
Compaq -> i am overall good and cheaper than all the above model. Have you seen my new look m2000 and my brother v2000. i personally think that he is a bit pricey but look at me with RM 3299 and inherit all the goodies from centino,i am really cool with JBL speaker.

Well there you go, go see yourself. I had been switching a lot of notebook recent years and now i just got my Dell 8600 <-- it rocks. Find any notebook out there in the market and beat me ? Anyway. i just seen the compaq m2000, the aligment of the input / output port is the best i ever seen after the apple ibook. (i think its better than the ibook) and somemore it have 6 in 1 card reader. What else, it have all the features centrino got and so and so. Too bad its running at P M Celeron however the PM centrino can be reach at 3999 which i think not worth it, my previous notebook running AMD Duron and it rocks too. Save the money to buy some upgrade ( hardrive and memory)

M2000 ROCKS, don't believe me, go lowyat and take a look at it.your selfd

if you are particular about the score, S7011 scored about 2365 in 3dmark2001. this is due to the low performance graphics card, but if you are not into gaming, this is a perfect choice for you. Toshiba is fine, but for the design, it's definately a loss. Performance wise, it's about the same.

dells heats up very quickly. the service is poor and the battery lifespan is short. I don't recommand dell.

Fujitsu is more sturdy than any notebook brands you have mentioned. it doesn't break easily. Previously i dropped my S7010 onto the ground and it's still usable + in fine condition. more for high end/business users.
Acer - hinge problem, but i heard it's getting better. Cheap and affordable. You may get student's rebate as well. more for students.
Dell - if you really planned to get a notebook from dell, make sure you get dell latitude. overall, all dell units look the same and heated up very fast.
Compaq - nice hardware. more for students.
