QUOTE(patrickyeo21 @ Mar 10 2017, 03:36 PM) It is more like experience of the Buddha and share with us the reason of suffering and the way to end it. So you able to obtain liberation of mind and always in peaceful..QUOTE(Chrono-Trigger @ Mar 10 2017, 04:42 PM) more than that. The vinaya is to govern oneself desire in order for support the practice to calm the mind. It is like a one steel bar and for 1 rules. 5 rules = 5 steel bars, 8 rules = 8 steel bars and for monk 227 steel bars to cage the desire mind. If you notice, in every suffering there is a desire infront of it. How did the Buddha teach? As i shared above What did he teach? Why did the Blessed One establish the order of the Monks/Nuns, and institute the Vinaya rules to govern their conduct? QUOTE(gsem984 @ Mar 11 2017, 03:26 PM) Chanting is samatha meditation where you focus on one object to calm down the mind, this is to prevent you from thinking or any thought arise. Chinese chanting have dhamma behind it but the word is too deep for us to understand. If you are a english speaker, try to read Theravada chanting that translates into english. More easy to understand. Am more focus on Theravada tradition and in meditation in order to calm the mind and obtain peace. This post has been edited by BlaBlaBoy: Mar 14 2017, 10:47 AM |

Let me humbly explain about the basics of Buddhism.
Basically there are 3 main things a human should do: 1. Do not do bad things 2. Do only good things 3. Purify your mind through meditation. Here's the 5 precepts(sila) that you should follow (Do not do bad things): 1. Do not kill. 2. Do not steal. 3. Do not commit adultery. 4. Do not lie. 5. Do not consume alcoholic drinks. |

QUOTE(max_cjs0101 @ Mar 10 2017, 03:26 PM) Hi everyone, Im Hindu and i think Buddhism have a lot more similarities but some variance in the concept of Karma as well like the path to liberation Moksha vs Nirvana.I've created a thread for us to discuss and share about Buddhism. If possible let's stick to Buddism teaching and less on Taoism though there are many similarities in practice. Even though i have been a Buddhist my whole life, i have never really learn what it means to be one or even practice the teachings at all. Here's an FAQ: http://www.buddhanet.net/e-learning/5minbud.htm » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Both religion encourage pipul to use brain and think that part i like the most. |
