My Theravada friends r not into meditation, cant sit still, mind wandering wildly. They prefer other practises like dana n offerings. Hence, i dont get much understanding n insight from Theravada.
Gone thru a few youtube videos, i think they r almost the same
One does what one could , although we should push ourselves a bit further ( the best if we could in this life).
meditation practice is to still the mind to enable it to observe certain things not perceivable by normal mind.
I am not surprised with other schools of buddhism who practice meditation to be able to perceive certain things and know certain things.
But if you wanna talk about a systematic approach, like what are you supposed to do, and what do you look for , then you need qualified teachers who proficient in the practice to guide you.

Let me humbly explain about the basics of Buddhism.
Basically there are 3 main things a human should do: 1. Do not do bad things 2. Do only good things 3. Purify your mind through meditation.
Here's the 5 precepts(sila) that you should follow (Do not do bad things): 1. Do not kill. 2. Do not steal. 3. Do not commit adultery. 4. Do not lie. 5. Do not consume alcoholic drinks.

do you mean the insight of core teaching or meditative practices?
I've created a thread for us to discuss and share about Buddhism. If possible let's stick to Buddism teaching and less on Taoism though there are many similarities in practice.
Even though i have been a Buddhist my whole life, i have never really learn what it means to be one or even practice the teachings at all.

I heard that the Buddha gave different teachings to different groups of people at various stages of his life, which led to the three main vehicles of Buddhism. Is this true?

Yes, because every sentient being has a different foundation. When you encounter different sentient beings, you should preach according to the foundation of all living beings.
In the end, the original intention of the Buddha is still to let all sentient beings recite the Buddha's name (Amitabha) and return to the Western Pureland & Liberation from the Six Paths of Reincarnation
This is worth to watch and know
