Merc monthly expenses around 2k around there

500k HDB around 2.5k ,

U can pay house installmeny minus off Ur CPF contribution ,

if total household income is 8k, household total CPF will be around 3k

Let's say 1.5k CPF for house installment, u need another 1k cash

So total expenses will be around 3k

Ur net salary left after CPF is 6.4k , minus off 3k, u left with 3.4k per month for othr expenses

My estimation
*
Abit confuse. Mean need 8k combined income minimum?

Hi guys, i am struggling between two options now.

I am drawing 8.5k MYR per month, work life balance, good boss, and friendly colleagues. (Got time to develop my apps and web-site, intent to start my own co. if there is a chance)

But recently, i got a SG job offering me 5.5k SGD, By the look of the director and the speed they process my job application. I think it will be a BIG NO work life balance + heavy workload.

I know the final decision is always lied on my hand but i would like to hear some opinions from the forumers here. Thank you.

*I am a IT programmer
*
Hmmm... honestly i wont take it. Cut too much liao. They cut ur pay by abt 35%, but i think if ur good you can find better roles here. Just try other job ba. Its not like this is your only opportunity in singapore.

I see. I mean, I don't mind trying audit, advisory, consulting or etc I just wanna get a professional accountant job there and take up professional studies + learning Singaporean tax laws.

I've even tried medium firm's both audit n tax (bdo) but still nobreply from the firm.
*
Fun fact, singapore big 4 dont have generous study leaves likr malaysia. Its entirely on your own time and your own leaves.

Maybe they changed policy recently.

Funny thing is if you don't pay for the premium, there's a possibility that you can't leave SG.

Why?

Different strokes for different folks. Some enjoy driving. Some hate it. Some feel liberated by the privacy that their car affords, some feel liberated by the lack of attention and consistency public transport provides.

Its good that you find singapore suitable for you smile.gif

i guess not. Though 20+ fresh grads who came in together with me are paid the same rate. There are multiple batches of seniors before me with similar pay as well. other companies in the same field likely won't be paying so much for someone with no experience

going to fudge the number a bit so I am not easily identified, but I get ~3.5k basic, 0.8k fixed allowances, then 0.4k for OT claims, phone bills, mileage etc

I read a report somewhere saying SG median salary is $3,300. My $3,000k offer is a bit on the low side, especially with almost 1 year of very relevant experience, but I guess it is a price I have to pay to break into SG.

going to bite the bullet   nod.gif  better have international work exposure when Im still young and not committed
*
Good call , especially if you are young. smile.gif
I hope you join a company that allows you a good development path!

Good luck!

(You're probably in Accenture?)

Fresh grads median pay in SG starts from $3,300, and I hesitated for a bit because of this.

I believe i might have developed this sense of superiority thinking I am better than the rest, as my pay is MUCH higher than the average fresh grad pay in Malaysia. throughout my graduate program I was treated as the 'elites' who will transform the company, which further stroke my ego. getting offered a lower rate than the average fresh grad salary is a deal to my ego, when I thought i deserve better.

It is not easy to adjust my thinking, but I am willing to be humble, accept that I am not a special snowflake in a competitive SG environment, and start over again in a foreign country.

and to another poster above me, no I am not in accenture. Totally different industry tongue.gif

Ahh.
Good luck then. smile.gif

I had a ex-colleague who came with an S-Pass, had difficulty getting a credit card as a result.
The then GF was on EP, and could get credit card easily.

Quite a minor issue, but is abit mafan when u wanna buy things online cos u dont have a SG credit card. (But I guess these days you have debit cards..)

Caused I did not booked 2 ways due to some promotion. When I about to booked for the return trip which I keep delayed, it has already been fully booked. So I decided to take a coach instead. 1k+ month?! U mean most of them are blue collars workers? I'm sure some of them are professional as well..if I'm them I would rather work in Malaysia if it is just 1k
*
what would singapore do without all these foreign workers.
someday if something happened to the causeway, what is their contingency plan.

I'm sure these questions were asked again and again, so please bear with me:
1) My office will be near MRT Lavender. Where are the recommended areas for cheap accommodations? Preferably close to Changi as well. I don't mind long commute times as long as I don't have to switch between trains/lines.

Its difficult to look for accommodations without locking down specific areas.
2) Which bank account should I open? prefers easy / good transfer rate between MY and SG banks. Prefers bank with good online brokerage platform that allows me to invest in S&P 500 index fund

3) Which mobile service provider is recommended? not a heavy data user, maybe need 1GB - 3GB at most per month.
*
1. try looking at bedok/eunos? lavender itself also got some hdbs. if u want condo can look at geylang tongue.gif

2. uh... good transfer rates use moneychangers in raffles. banks usually lose a bit.

3. all 3 similar but most ppl recommend singtel.
