Hello to all car sifu's.

3 days ago I brought my car to workshop to change FRONT rotor and brake pads, since my rotor warped for a long time.

So the rotor I changed was Brembo's Blank Rotor (Without Slotted, Drilled, Just Blank), and the Pad was Brembo also.

I even ask them to flush brake fluid and change a new one (DOT4).

After change, the brake was noticeable softer and spongy.

Maybe its new pad need time to bedding or the other brake system parts have problem?

Anyone faced this problem before? or brembo pads really NOOBS? icon_question.gif

Brake line changed to stainless steel braided? Maybe your old rubber hose soften up already. Another cause maybe air in brake line, mechanic didn't properly bleed the line.

Do proper bedding in first and then see after that if it feels firmer. I myself never used brembo discs & pads before so not sure how they should be and this also varies from car to car and the types of pads. Just hope they are original brembo and not fake ones though. If still feels soft then try another round of bleeding, but if still not improving then probably just the pads not good. Then can try replacing the brake hose with stainless steel braided ones.

I will go back to the shop to ask them to bleed out air first instead of changing to SS hoses. If the sponginess is caused by improper bleeding, changing hoses will not help as the mechanic will still do a 1/2 f job.
TS mentioned that it only happened after his brake job, so the existing hoses should be ok since he only changed rotor and pads.

sponge feel can be air contain inside hose or leaking. basic check for vacuum leak is shut off enjin.
step on brake fully. release. step fully again. release.

count how many times u able to brake.

Since you're using brembo pads, did you notice the annoying 'krek' sound when your car is coming to a halt? Each and every time right before your car stops, there will be this sound from the brake pads.

Rotor=RM210 (Include installation)
Pads=RM120 (Include Installation)

Rotor size is same as my original rotor size.

Sharing experince for Waja (which is similar to Persona brake system). Happened to change rotor & brake pad at outside workshop, braking effect was 'slippery' and spongy.

a) slippery effect - longer braking distance due to bedding in of new brake pad and new rotor.After 100+ km, will back to normal.

b) spongy effect. brake system got air. Technique for brake bleeding is very important. The mechanic need to make sure that during 'pumping' brake pedal, the bleed valve is fully closed. Some mechanic do not close the bleed valve completely during 'pumping' to enable them easier to open the valve during 'full press' process.

Process for bleeding:
1. Pump several times brake pedal. Ensure bleed valve 100% closed.
2. Press brake pedal fully with medium force and bleed valve is opened.

If bleed valve is not fully closed during process (1), air will be induced into the system. Even slight air will cause the pedal feel spongy.

If the technique is wrong, going back to the same workshop will still be the same even mutiple times bleeding done. Then went to Proton Service Centre to do bleeding and then back to normal.

If SC busy (esp Sat), they lazy to entertain such small job.Now DIY, learnt from Internet, tht why manage to spot the mistake.

Hope it helps to clarify your query.

True.
Sometimes when changing brake fluid using the bleeding method, mechanic may accidentally let in air via the brake fluid reservoir if he tops up too slowly, or introduce air to the reservoir if he tops up too fast. This is a headache as the air bubble may travel everywhere and you need to bleed a long time to push out the air. Typical mindset of mechanic is when they see new brake fluid coming out, it means ok ady. And when you complain brake spongy, they tell you to season the braking system first and hope you don't come back to them to complain.

May need to do a few rounds of bleeding to solve the problem.
