It's hit or miss. Even if you use the Developer Mode hack, not every app can be installed on an add on drive.

Heck, not even all added microsd or usb drive can be detected. It needs to be FAT32 specifically, and even then Chromecast seems to have a hard time detecting some. I've tested various microsd card a few weeks back, and only my 8gb and 16gb card were detected properly. My 32gb one were detected, but failed when trying to format it as an internal storage, and even then it took about 30 minutes before it was even shown in the storage menu

Also as an added bonus, Chromecast will fail to detect your USB Hub if you soft reset it (go to menu->reset) or using the power button. A hard power off is the only option if you are using a USB hub :V

So yeah, the KM2 (or if you don't have Netflix like me, the new KM7 with AV1 decoding) are better in this price range
*
I see, only my kodi app that’s usually consume extra storage. Fortunately database cache/thumbnails is on nas with mysql setup.

Thanks for the extra info on the usb hub, not usually highlighted in other reviews

Gotta say though I’ve rarely download stuff like before since got fiber. Using kodi with certain addon can stream 30-40gb files smoothly just makes playing latest movies a lot easier than before 😅

I just received my KM7. Since it's using the same new Android TV controller as what the Google Chromecast is using (Chromecast is using the simpler version), the box comes with an app that you could re-map the controller's IR so it works with your TV.

I am not up to date on tv box now. Appreciate feedback from friends here on tv box vs smart tv. In the past, could not install your apps. Heard now smart tv allows that. What are the major pros and cons now in that 2 systems?

Need to know for my next upgrade.

Thanks.

Can’t install apps? It’s android underneath you can sideload anything unlike apple tv

For smart tv, pick android tv platform, not one of those webos by lg/samsung that only limits to built in store apps.

Thanks.

The other concern is OS & firmware update. Some brands stop supporting that after 2-3 years.

Due to apps installation constraints, best to avoid, LG, SS? True that Sony allows free apps?

All those brands listed got android tv, just certain tv model got their proprietary tv os. Just be sure to check the specification

As for the update, hard to tell with android defragmentation

Easier to upgrade/buy android tv stick with latest os in the long run compared to smart tv

One thing i do like about smart tv with android tv platform is can get cctv feeds alert/doorbell/alarm natively whenever you’re watching something. With android tv stick, need to change to hdmi input first

Yeah, Kodi should be supported by all Android TV boxes. I have KM2 and using it for Plex + Kodi. 4K works, altho for those with HDR, it depends on your TV

I don't believe KODI (original installed) on Android box supports HDR , you need to do something else to get it supported. Otherwise, Kodi alone will just get you a washed-out picture on the screen even if you TV supports HDR. I stand corrected.

Hi guys , how do you connect your android tv box when stay at hotel?
I know can just connect to phone hotspot or bring travel router, but I wanna avoid this and just connect directly.
Firetv stick got some captive portal built in with fire os so you can just login directly but not the same for android tv.

Someone suggested to use puffin tv browser, but nothing pops up for password input. Any other ideas?

Hey guys, has anyone heard or used Walmart's Android TV?
onn. TV Stick and TV Box
TV stick seems to be about rm133 on shopee

Also WTA, i got 2 TVs currently, one old samsung 1080p and sony bravia 4k 2015

samsung tv im using mi box s, but not sure if need to upgrade or not
bravia has built in android tv, but its super laggy nowadays

My use is netflix, youtube, disney+ hbo max and VPN which runs on boot + split tunnel, so i can open disney+ and hbo max without needing to connect to vpn 1st

Both TVs works fine no issues so far, but wondering if I should upgrade the mibox for the samsung tv and maybe buy mecool km2 for the sony TV

Thanks!

I'm also using the walmart onn 4k version, fells even faster than fire tv sticks and definitely the mibox s
Mostly using it for kodi, and the usual streaming service
The onn remote utilize hdmi cec and ir to control your devices. It can control the volume my sony receiver, but not able to power on/off which is odd since my fire stick can control both. Still searching how to get it working

How do you configure the split tunnel? Is it by selective device or traffic

Oh that's great to hear. The box seems to cost around RM180 which is much cheaper than mibox s, but curious if its better than kemool km2

Split tunnel i configure via app, my vpn allows me to select what app to only go through VPN, so i set it for Disney+ and HBO MAX, the rest no vpn.

Which vpn you're using bro?
It's definitely the cheapest certified tv stick out there if you get directly from walmart with good performance post black friday/cyber monday sales
