Ideally it's better to be using a device that's already known to run cool or at minimum doesn't overheat so much for hours on end or days on standby... Occasionally shutdown and allow to cool off every few days. Though, there are some devices that do not ship with a heat sink at all. Luckily most processors can take some heavy heat but not for long.. So here are a few things one can do to improve cooling..
*Install or replace the heat sink with a bigger one.
*Separate the covers and drill holes into em.. Especially around the processor area and or places you notice are hotter to touch than normal.
*Same as above but cut out vents instead. With cutting or drilling, be careful about dust. Try including wire meshes.
*Get a decent USB powered laptop cooler. Some can swing both ways. Either push cool air up or sucks out hot air.

Those are a few options.. All depends on your budget and hands-on skills.. nikrizal & BOTAK_WAI do have some real world experience in that department..

Hi, newbie here and planning to get my first Android box.

So Im into some TVB Dramas, some China tv shows, Eng & HK Movies and mostly Live Sports (BPL/Champions League etc).

I've read through and did some research and was thinking of using Hypp/AOTG to stream some live matches but understood that not all box support it.

Well Hypp is more to making use of it cos I recently get a free upgrade from TM(8mb screamyx). But using AOTG as a backup just incase those server from Kodi not working.

But I also read from another thread that there's this TWRP thingy can allow AOTG to run/bypass on a T95 box.

So does that it might work on other boxes that is similar spec to T95?
Cos Minix is pretty over my budget.

Or are there any other box that is sufficient to provide me what AOTG/Hypp have so that I can ditch that app?

No way for AOTG if rooted, unless you use Magisk Manager but I find it not so easy to do with a box. It could be I noob also la.
Most of the apps in box, you will need to sideload anyway, and no AOTG doesn't work that way as well.

Why don't you splurge a bit more, botak_wai shared the Minix link earlier. Eat roti for a few weeks and you will enjoy AOTG.

I am using AOTG and HyppTV Everywhere on my Minix U1. Got it for RM 250, totally worth for the money spent, super super deal for me. Stable and nice. I also have M9s Pro which I have given to my elder sister, it is OK for me except it is rooted so these two main apps cannot work.

Edit: The price increased back from yesterday's RM 307 to RM 442.

Ok so the app is out of the question whether sideload or not. But on a web browser will it work? To note, i did ask the seller to test for me playing aotg from web, using rooted box. He said tested and working. Somehow i feel more assured if can get honest answer in here.

Yah i looked out for a Minix box as well but didn't see 1 that match my budget. You got rm250 is a super sweet deal btw!

Did a test  with wifi and wired on 1gbit internet with very good results. Should meet your needs.

Unequivocally YES. The Shield is an awesome device for home theatre, whether or not you will be gaming on it.

I think you need to re-read page 1, there is no perfect box. For my use case scenario, it works wonderfully and its the best android tv box available. Not everyone will be happy with it because it may not work for what they want to do. There is a guy in the Nvidia Shield thread who is not happy with his newly purchased Shield because the external storage does not work well with Quasar. For me I stream stuff from my NAS on Kodi  & use the streaming apps, so this is not an issue for me. So does that make my view invalid because there are negative reviews? I guess it depends on whether the negative points are related to stuff that you may need. If it is, then stay away and find something else. I have been using media boxes for a long time now since the Sigma vs Realtek days, and unfortunately, there are still no perfect boxes. But fortunately for me, the Shield is now the only box I need. Will probably upgrade only when I get a Dolby Vision tv sometime in the future.

Didn't even know that it had an upscaler. Even if it has one, why would anyone use it instead of the upscaler in their TV? Am I missing something. I have always believed that upscaling is best left to the TV in most cases anyway. AVR & Bluray players upscalers should always be disabled unless you have an Oppo player with Darby or something of that cred. So it shouldn't be any different with a TV box.

Blu-ray is 1080p but Blu-ray UHD is 4K resolution. First few titles start appear on 14 February, 2016  and the quality is absolutely outstanding. Netflix 4K is great but still cannot compare with Blu-ray UHD quality.

Bolded part don't really understand what you mean.  Why would you set resolution at 1080P for a 4K tv? A 4K tv will always upscale to its native resolution whatever you send to it. So why is the tvbox downscaling first and later letting the tv upscale? This seems very wrong and is bound to give poor quality.

If you set 4k resolution in the tvbox, 4k sources will go through as normal without upscaling. So you're saying lower resolution files will be upscaled by the box too and its not possible to allow the TV to do the upscaling?
Never checked this before, will try to see if there are some ways to disable the upscaling.

Sold off all my old boxes. Some broken ones had to throw away. Yeah, popcorn hour was deemed one of the best those days and was super expensive in Malaysia. Are you a collector? There still seem to be some interest for the vintage sigma players like Dune & Popcorn hour nowadays.
Read that thread yesterday and tested this out. There is no auto switching for reso & colourspace, so have to manually choose to change it if you want the TV to upscale. Tested out a few HD movies with with 1080p & 4k reso setting on the Shield. Can't see any noticeable difference in PQ but the colour tint is slightly different. Maybe my TV's upscaling is not good as those guys in the thread who all have high end tvs so I can't see much difference. Will need to test further to see how bad it is.

The way I see it, this is not an upscaling issue because I don't expect the Shield to upscale. Its an issue on why the Shield cannot auto-switch resolution & colourspace especially since the issue seems to have been raised 2 years ago. So if this is a showstopper for you, stay away from the shield.

NOTE: 99% of devices running the Android OS cannot Automatically Resolution Switch from 1080p to 4K properly like you will get with other non-Android Kodi devices. 4K LibreELEC devices have no such auto resolution switching issues.

Hi guys, i am new to this tv box thing and recently got so annoyed with Astro, my friend recommended Infinite TV Box, i saw can be purchased for around 600.

Can someone kindly explain how this tv box works, and how it gets the streams?
Also legality issues?

Any other tv boxes to recommend?
