Recently i found a few tv box:

TZ Plus 3GB 32GB Android 7.1 Nougat Smart Android Box (Pre-installed Apps)

https://www.lazada.com.my/products/tz-plus-...7Lvl60&search=1

Android 7.1 Smart TV Box M8S PlusII Amlogic S912 Octa Core Mini PC 3G+32G+5G WIFI 4K H.265 Media Player Home Movie Bluetooth

https://www.lazada.com.my/products/android-...9a6a4&cid=12793

Mecool Pro L 3GB 32GB Android Smart Box (Pre installed Malaysian Apps)

https://www.lazada.com.my/products/mecool-p...24897__11467__1

I just roughly summarize most of the specs seems to be the same in 3GB ram, Android 7.1 and CPU Amlogic S912. Just thinking all this brand any different beside pricing? I know that a clean box without preinstall apps seems to be cheaper. Wondering any differences between all this boxes sell online to take notice.
*
All the Amlogic devices are almost the same but not exactly the same. They may be differences in Wifi chipset, Wifi antenna (embedded, internal, external), ROM version, Netflix Certification, root/non-root, HD audio passthru, etc.

Some seller added a few apps which able to stream some illegal/non-official content from some places and sell a few hundred ringgit more.

So it's a big soup there. Hardware is not the only thing you need to consider.

Maybe just for comparison example, out of this 3 device, which one seems to be the best excluding those apps as consideration? The pricing seems to be around the same.

I don't have the answer because I have used none of the mentioned boxes. Let others answer it.

Suspect you two are using different youtube.

There are two different youtube app. One is the TV version and one is the phone version.

The TV version, seems unable to switch keyboard input. The only way I know is to also switch the language setting of the system. That makes it rather cumbersome if ones wants to perform mix English/Chinese input.

How do you come to this conclusion ? Lazada, Shopee and others are not trustable ?

Just don't buy directly with the sellers, you get some protection.

This particular youtube app for TV is able to support multilingual input :-

https://smartyoutubetv.github.io

This app is open source and written by a Russian. If for some reason, it is first started with russian, you can change to English or Chinese language by selecting the bottom left most button.

This page only appears in first start up, if you missed it you can hit the back button during start up. Or delete and install again.

In the search page, if you move the cursor to the search bar at the top (middle), then the system input method will appear. One can then enter mix english/chinese text into the search.

Interesting on how you tweak the LAN as WiFi.

How about AstroGo App, also only work with WiFi?  blink.gif
*
AstroGo will work with LAN, Wifi or anything. Why should it matter to AstroGo ?

Only the TM app will matter, as it seems it needs to route the traffic to some kind of VLAN due to they have some kind of belief that a VLAN for unifi TV traffic is better. Maybe because they want to lock the app to be used by unifi customers only.

FYI i bought from Mr DIY a set of 4 AAA batteries costs RM 1.60.

Already used 2 for my MX3 Airmouse and they lasted for 1.5 month.

So 4 pieces of battery costs Rm1.60 will last me 3 months. I think it's worth it.

I hope the batteries continue to be available from Mr DIY.

Noticed some changes in icdrama. Icdrama in Kodi cannot play HK drama already. Says old apps no more supported.

Move to rssplayer instead. Surprise that now IR remote can be used to navigate moves already. Still checking if it is as good as Icdrama plugin in Kodi which can remember last played video.

RSS player has improved user friendliness !

Wanna check with you guys
I have this S905x box named 'Modeo' (2GB RAM/16GB ROM) that I put at my family's house
The stock remote is shitty like hell compared to my nvidia shield
Have to aim properly and press hard on the remote
After flashing to atvXperience, it was slightly better but still crap
There is also a zidoo h6 pro at the family house, the remote is much better than the modeo but of course not as good as the shield
So I'm thinking of getting one of those airmouse for this modeo box
Heard people saying that the remote from minix is good (RM90 or so)
You reckon the improvement (responsiveness and all) will be drastic?  sweat.gif
though I was told some functions on the minix remote won't work on other android boxes
*
If you found any good airmouse, let us know.

The air mouse are typically like shits :-

1) They drink battery like drinking water.

2) Constantly have to toggle between remote/IR mode vs usb-dongle (airmouse) mode. And then make to toggle between mouse mode vs non-mouse mode.

I doubt people understand all those things.

Yes, IR remote has to transmit IR vendor ID over which matches the box to be controlled. Without "learning", it is tight to a particular box. I am not sure if the minix remote can learn new IR code or not.

I've been quite curious. I plan to build a tvbox by assembling my own using AMD mobo and processor. Installing the android OS on it. I've no idea how compatible between AMD and android but as for Intel processors, it should work fine.
Why i plan to use a cpu over a made out of factory tv box because these stuffs break down easily.
Compared to Intel why i wanted AMD ? I'm sure given such scenarios, android are not resource hogging stuffs. AMD could easily stand up to the performance.
I've tried to research on TVbox build on AMD but not getting any results. Anyone can point me one ? Thx.

Haha biggest question is why do it your own ?

If hobby then OK lor.

There is a number of discussion about Android TV.

I found this while searching something :-

[Tutorial] How to get the ultimate android TV experience on R-box Pro

https://forum.freaktab.com/forum/developmen...ce-on-r-box-pro

Basically by doing some mods on the Android boxes, you can present your boxes as Android TV.

Maybe someone wants to do it for hobby.

Article is old, no guarantee that is continues to work.

Looks interesting and safe? As there are no serious flashings to do. Worst case, I believe one can simply reflash stock image and return to normal. I'd be willing to try it out on my Neo U1 except it's using the older amlogic S905 processor and he's tried that and found it lacking. Guessing rooted + S912 upwards only.

I am not sure there is an extract function in LP. But I know in the app info, LP will tell you the exact path of where the apk is located. It will end with the name /something/something/base.apk.
