QUOTE(Bonchi @ Dec 26 2020, 02:53 PM)
It’s not that simple especially if you understand how it works on the code level. If it works on intel which is also an x86 or an older gen ryzen, means something is missing on your current gen. If so happens another application is using that particular decoder or component, it will crash as well. So the fix should be from the chip bios/driver and not the application because we will never know how many other applications are affected.... just like how amd released a chipset driver fix for the linux issue however due to it being a fixed at the software layer, performance become affected.

However amd being amd, if it’s a niche issue, they just pretend they never heard it... and wouldnt bother to fix. While their fanboys kept defending them.

I got Intel processor but I cannot test it because that system not support HDR output. The MPV player ha no issue in SDR in both my system in Intel or AMD.

But also can't conclude this is Ryzen issue as well.

Correct I also can't conclude 100% is software issue unless somebody using Intel processor with HDR monitor and set Windows 10 HDR turn on to test it.

This is my second AMD system, it is same not 100% stable. I think I will back to Intel in future also. Haha!

I think the problem with amd is nobody pushing them to fix on their issues with lawsuits etc. Also probably because not many enterprise and  corporates use amd yet so they are not being pressured like intel to patch up on all the stability issues.

As you can see, gen to gen, ryzen just keep coming up with newer architechture and ditching their previous gen, instead of ironing out all the flaws of the previous gen or optimizing a design before moving on to a new design. That’s because no enterprise or corporates are demanding them to do so with lawsuits.

At this point, it’s pretty much end of line with zen2 already and whatever issues there may be, it wont be for zen2 eventhough it’s just 1 year old. And look at 2000 series, the ram issue has been totally forgotten already.. despite it being only 2 years old. And the main issue is the hardcore fanboys defending them.
*
Yalo, for current situation, I also not dare to ask enterprise company using it. Lucky I didn't also, else they will be no day for fixing here and there.

Stability is very important for company, cannot simply restart or crash in working time.

Lawsuits wise I not sure as I seldom look on to those news unless it is a very big news.

my previous company bought an epyc to replace the xeons platform that they have been loyal for over 15 years but the epyc kept crashing... crash untill the software team(me) and the executive board decided to migrate to cloud and the server guy who has been maintaining the servers over 7 years who is the one who recommended the epyc server kena made redundant. laugh.gif

The server is use to run alot of SQL and the disk and memory read write is super heavy. Somehow the Epyc suck terribly in this area.. and have alot of data corruption.
*
Haha! Until now we whole teams no one dare suggest for switch, we still keep using Xeon. Trouble happen, who suffer, we suffer, user also suffer.

Thanks for your information, this is another great point better stick with Intel for server based as well.

but then due to the sheer amout of cores, amd tend to be better as a render server or VM
*
But for stability wise, we pick Xeon.

We have at least 200 VM, cannot have any crash issue.

I think this is a bit out of topic, we should stop discussion here. Haha!

not really, would be interesting to know how epyc perform in real world usage too. If im not mistaken amazon cloud EC2 instances is running on epyc. Seems to be running ok.. maybe also because they have failover mechanism on the VM.

No chances to test now, we are being told stop any upgrade within this year and next year. Haha!

Now company more towards malware detection globalize and those is host at HQ and we are only client user. This is big investment thus unnecessary upgrade for others need to be stop.

in my honest opinion, better just wait for the news of rocket lake or amd to come up with some major bios release.. like the zen2’s 1.0.0.4 that came out 5 months after that fixed most of the vital issues.

So yeah. just hold back on your purchase if you dont desperately need an upgrade. However if you need one immediately right now... no doubt 10900K which is cheaper, faster, more stable and most importantly available.
*
5 months! OMG! I should consider Intel that time. Haha!

early adopter of zen2 all face this problem. they have some sort of ram training issue that causes boot up to be super long, some pcie detection problems that till today still have issues that occasionally shows hardwarw not detected errors on B400 chipset (thats why i changed to B550) and of course the infamous aggressive boost behavior and constant high vcore.
*
Thanks a lot for all the information.

I will read more next time, I didn't check on stability but only performance and decide give AMD one more chances. My bad my decision. Haha!

Your current AMD setup has stability issue other than the MXX player you mentioned? Otherwise why should you concerns so much about the negative feedbacks by these ppls, their bitter experience not necessary will happened on you? Your setup & theirs are totally different, i mean doesn't need to be influenced by what ppls said if you are happy & satisfied with your current setup.
*
Not only that. I face

  • In idle system auto crash. This is the most annoying. I cannot guarantee solve yet or not.

  • Listen Tidal system crash when monitor go to sleep mode. I solve this after using external sound card and disable internal sound.

  • Playback 4K HDR MKV file using MPV player stutter or system crash auto restart when switching from Windows mode to full screen mode. Seems solve after change player.

  • Torchlight III crash like nobody business every few minutes. I already get refund this games from Steam, but actually I don't see anyone mentioned got such issue at Steam forum. Weird is later I download illegal copy and no issue. I suspect original version keep checking DRM and this make crash.

No enough crash? It is too many to me. I prefer total stable system. I don't have such issue in all my previous Intel system from PC to laptop.

When play heavy games do no crash, I crash mostly on not so heavy thing include I put my system there idle but only Microsoft Edge is on.

I won't respond and come to this the thread if I only face one crash.

AMD = risk, thrill, fun just like a BMW, like everyone knows its not reliable but yet still many people buy it compare to the boring Toyota (intel) where reliability stability and lack of innovation that many had experience using it before. tongue.gif

BTW not a flaming here, I owned intel 10th gen 10875H on my laptop and Ryzen 5900x for my desktop. Just can't own 2 same brand at the same.
*
My laptop is few years ago and Intel i7-6700HQ, so far never crash before. Haha!

Then garage sales or FB marketplace is the way to go, as someone said no guarantee that AMD will resolved all these, no point keep struggling with all these craps. I believe even you put at MSRP price surely will get alot of attractions from desperate potential buyers. Good luck.
*
No I had no plan to selling it. smile.gif This minimal issue is not yet in level for selling it but not means I should keep silent.

AMD had issue and many people have issue means it do have issue.

No need to hide and said it is free of issue.

Either late Q4 2021 or 1H 2022

no point waiting so long if you need a PC now.
I wait for you tongue.gif
Long overdue for platform upgrade.
My Intel CPU still got bridge, no lake tongue.gif

Now, everything no stock, but if come 2021 CNY, Rocket Lake out, your problems not solved, maybe I need to plan Intel build laugh.gif

Haha I think you can decide on new Intel that time.

I won't charge unless more and more issue I face. Touch wood. Haha!

QUOTE(Vannus @ Dec 27 2020, 09:00 AM)
My 5900x so far so good, never a single crash before bro. Let's see whats the difference between mine and yours. Mine mobo is giga aorus master on latest f31q bios, ram tridentz gskill 3600mhz CL18 on xmp profile @ 1.35v (manual bump up dram voltage). The rest of settings i keep default stock. Not interested on OC for the minimal gain that can't be felt in real life usage.
*
QUOTE(Bonchi @ Dec 27 2020, 10:16 AM)
why need to bump up voltage? unstable when on stock voltage?

anyways my ryzen also got no issues with up time no bsod. Problem only comes when i shut down or do a reboot. which i always shut down my pc.
Occasionally when boot up it will sometimes enter windows with a low resolution or the hard disks not being detected. Changed 2 mobos and 4 gpus so definitely it’s a ryzen issue.

and mine is on a supposedly mature zen2. Changed to B550 and problem is still there. Just not as often as B450

Maybe most people do is game.. so it’s just very basic usage... and then they say no crash.

When go into more indepth usage perhaps alot of issue will come up. Such as linux or running some compilers or memory intensive stuff. Back then my ryzen had a problem with those so I continue to use my mac for work.
*
Beside issue I mentioned, I didn't face others issue, never seen BSOD also, but I know it crash as sometimes my open apps like Edge Chromium is closed by itself, or sound tatata then PC restart. Not often but it do happen.

I know BSOD is not happen, as above issue I seen from my eye itself as I manage to replicate the issue myself for Tidal (already solve), MPV (consider solve by not using it), edge crash I seen myself once.

All happen very quick and no BSOD.

EGS sucks. Udontconnect sucks. Origin sucks.

All these launchers are trash.

Everyone should just link their games to GOG galaxy, so much faster, very lightweight and has a good interface.
*
Thanks a lot for recommended this, it looks so pretty and everything in one. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Now I only need to run this at background and closed the rest.

Ya very smooth, and nice interface. The rest is so slow even the Steam also cannot compete with it.
I hate to have so many Games Launcher, now everything all together. This is so awesome! smile.gif

Hope in future they will included link to Battle.net, Bethesda.net & also Rockstar.

Some games like FIFA require their own launcher which is Origin! It’s good if we can consolidate everything together

It still in beta, I believe soon it will integrate more and I like it got option to turn off the other game launcher client once exit the games.

With this option, it is ok it needs to launch other games launcher.

I always checkout setting in anything from PC to mobile to TV because setting is very important and it may have very useful hidden thing.

I always check setting also and saw the Integrations but didnt think much. After seeing you guys linked games to it, I just did it.
One launcher is always better than multiple, especially when some are just slow.

Cool! The box was nice and price also nice, it is somehow same price as purchase online. Awesome purchase!
