AMD fanboys have been around forever. Just that they're less quiet now because Zen2/3 is a far cry from Bulldozer tier garbage.
*
But to be fair, at the point of time when 3600 came out, I was at lowyat initially shopping for 9400F and the spec doesnt even come close and from a value proposition.. it was the best and that's why I got the 3600 and was optimistic as I had athlon64 and phenom and they were solid.... and also at that time I had 0 knowledge about the problems with zen and zen+ and never did any prior research as I had to decide on the purchase on the spot. Also it was only a week after ryzen's launch so not many feedbacks yet.

I originally used 2666Mhz ram on the ryzen 3600 and of course, it is generally stable. Problem comes when I upgraded to 3200mhz and start to do tweaking and subsequently a 32GB kit... and with heavy usage plus installing various SDK, VM and emulators due to work from home during the pandemic makes the problems surface more and more... like for example when my code has an error when testing, it could also bsod the windows.. but this doesnt happen with intel. To the point I end up buying a used laptop to leave in office to access files via teamviewer so I can bring home my office laptop cuz I dont wanna be running on VPN with all the IP blockage at home.

I already made alot of compromises on Ryzen, and my patience have finally run thin when it affects my primary hobby of music listening so I promptly switched to intel... dont even have the patience anymore to wait for rocketlake and B560.

Cukur my audio setup has no issues on AMD.  notworthy.gif
*
it could be one of the following: kernel streaming, full file buffering on RAM, dsp compatibility, the DAC's USB interface driver, amd chipset's USB controller (which is also the PCI-E) and lastly the chipset's USB drivers.

and Im also running my huge lossless audio files from a USB external HDD so perhaps it could also be caused by the amount of traffic on the bus.... in the end they're all linked to the capability of the IF and especially IMC.

I truly cannot replicate the bsod but the only thing in common is it happens when I had music playing on the background... nevertheless, problems all solved now with the "desperate" solution of switching to intel.

Pretty much running the same setup too, except all my music is on an SSD - lossless of course.

Logically, it's very likely the USB controller (chipset side) causing fault. But it won't make sense if the issue still occurs if you use optical out...  sweat.gif
Well happy for you that your problems are solved regardless.
*
welppp my itx board doesnt have optical out.. and there are also so many unknowns so cannot blame on it cuz we dont know the cause... but generally there is something wrong in the Ryzen platform especially in parts that is used by a small percentage of users... sadly im one of them.

The best part now is, I can finally play music in screen off idle state now. On ryzen, when this idle state kicks in the DAC just produces weird noises due to usb power being cut by the chipset driver’s power management.

Microsoft excel on Monte Carlo simulation . VBA with file exceeding 10 million lines with powerbi for visualization. File size for one excel is 1gb and i run multiple at same time. Means huge data crunching for analysis of database.

Then Cyber punk at Ultra level at free time with Assasin Creed Valhalla
*
Excel tends to not able to utilize multi threaded workloads that well and even if you have so much power at your disposal.. also better to use ECC ram as if im not mistaken, Ryzen supports it.
But generally, also expect crashing midway with such big datasets (altho 1GB is still considered small) regardless of how many cores or rams.... for this kind of workloads usually xeons are used for reliability.

So for you, just sell whichever you can scalp for the highest margin/profit which is the 5800X at the moment.

Monte Carlo sim is one of the better multithreaded examples with Excel. But cyberpunk/ACV doesn't get more juice out from the second CCD. So for whether the 5900X is worthwhile - depends entirely on how well his Excel workloads already use his 5800X.

ECC is why Linus Torvalds is a huge fan of Threadripper and ditched his Intel HEDT setup, because to him unofficial support is better than nothing. There's a rant of his about ECC last month in LKML last month IIRC.

I've seen scalpers trying to sell 5800X for 2.3k before.
*
which is ironic because ryzen has a bunch of missing components to run certain linux distro smoothly lmao... only now they create a dedicated team to sort the problems for future chips.

Thank bro. Will look into it. As mention. I dont want be a scalper. As my rig got fried that why i built new rig. And i know its pity for those enthusiast like us wanted to get a rig. That why consider selling it at 2k.

And yeah.. i try find alot of article how to make my excel dont crash but can't find any. Sadly. But i know with more ram , its better. i got 2 set of 32 gb of 16 x 2 corsair vengeance rgb pro 3600. 64gb kinda killing but works well with my rig now.

Wanted to built intel as its cheaper but then I anti Intel nowdays haha.. too much monopoly and wanted give team red a win here.

My initial plan was to get Asus X13 flow but after weeks of pesturing asus malaysia they mention not bringing it in. The Ram is damn fast and got egpu of 3080. But sad part is hdd is only small m2 of 1tb only.

Gg.. i should buy ECC ram instead of gaming ram.. Will check whether my MSI unify X570 can support or not. I know it support up ot 5000 mhz speed in ram overclocking. Low profile motherboard. Seem not much people buy this though.
*
ram has been a problem for this kind of data analytic tasks for me and it became one of the reasons I switched to intel just 3 days ago. But I wont vouch that intel consumer will be 100% crash free with excel, maybe slightly better but ultimately ECC and Xeon is still a better choice for such task. (that's why there are some professional thinkpads and thinkcentre that comes with xeons)

But yeah, belum cuba belum tau. It's always fun to try new tech anyways...and given AMD's pricing now, it wont be a problem selling when it's not suitable. laugh.gif

Guys, is it worth to upgrade from B450 to B550? im using R5 3600.
*
not worth... was the worst decision ive ever made, it doesnt solve any stability issues (if you have any) and CPU and memory performance is identical.. the only gain is pcie Gen4 for GPU and NVME and some boards will have the more recent wifi6.

The 2 CCD designs are interesting in a way - hopefully someone figures out how to enable the cores on the second die for use. Then we can go back to the fun Phenom value lottery option smile.gif
*
not possible because the disabled cores are lasered off. Of course they wont want the phenom exploit to repeat again.

AMD is finally acknowledging the USB drop out issues on x570/b550 - https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/lnmet...ith_500_series/

Better late than never I guess.
*
but it's a little too late for me hahaha. Already made the switch to intel and the faith and trust is already gone for the AMD brand. Guess this proved that it's not my poor luck for getting lemon hardwares more than twice but rather it is a chipset/Agesa issue.

However it is good that they've finally admitted and to those fanbois who defended the brand and saying it's a user's problem instead deserves a finger ranting.gif .

personally i think its because of  agesa.

just to drop some info based on intel cpu and pre ryzen cpu
electrical spec etc given to aib with final test units
aib design the board. test based on sampling of 1k tray es units.

cpu is stable DAY 1.

what happens after this is memory tuning for various chipset etc etc for sensing. so ppl can oc
and various firmware updates to other parts of the board
cpu might get a mrc code update . might affect tuning
but day 1 cpu is stable with stock ram.

now comes agesa
unknown spec
its a cluster F cause u might see some boards from aib had a tolerance level in the design to accommodate the new agesa changes and some not.

so this shit got to stop. amd has no biz on tuning sensing for fclk 2k etc. that shit wont work with all boards.

Y amd went agesa. its to hide the fact the cpu yield has variation and some of it is unstable.

it wasnt until b550 that ryzen 3 series was boosting to its advertised stock clocks.

keep defending them by fantards sayin my shit works etc.. so dont blame amd..
*
not to mention i actually have that USB issue since B450 so I fully agree that it is an Agesa/driver problem, not a chipset. Using the first Agesa that supported zen2 1.0.0.2 did somewhat solve the USB but in return gets unreachable boost, and generally terrible memory stability.

I remember the last agesa update before i sold the b450, my pc will randomly freeze and can hear the device disconnect sound on loop. and the screen keep flashing with the prompt to force install display driver.

If due to Agesa then problem will not be limited to only b550/x570.

Blindly attacking is as bad as blindly defending.
*
i had the issue on B450 (MSI), changed to B550 (GGB) also kena. In that reddit post, there’s plenty of users have the same problems on their x470.
AMD did release an agesa to address a USB issue before but it didnt work, if im not mistaken was as far back as Agesa 1.0.0.4 PatchB which suppose to solve compatibility with PCIE/USB devices especially soundcards but that version messed everything else up. thus this issue has been raised quite long ago before but still not solved.

So yeah it is an agesa problem, and the fix will be through agesa as well. He is not blindly attacking.

AMD acknowledge issue with 500 series chipset , not 400 series. Anyone can complaint their system also have same issue, but whether their problem really due to same chipset issue or others , will never know unless everyone also have same issue.
*
those agesa changelog is also applicable to 400 series yawn.gif and it has already been complained about in the VR community back at zen+ launch in 2019 and the problem still persisted till 2021. Unfortunately, my audio setup seems to trigger this problem across 3 AMD rigs but not happening on my macbook pro and my new intel rig. So it is a good enough indication that it's more of a compatibility issue.

And in a way, for them to not officially state 400 series in this post means.... they're telling those who currently running 400 series that AMD will no longer give a shit and please buy their 500 chipsets. Well to be fair, AMD did say new AGESA on 400 series mobo will not be officially support but to be up to AIB's discretion and that they will "try their best" to help.

So 400 series can cry all they want but sad to say, support has ended and AMD will only focus on 500 series.

Now I just hope AMD will finally look seriously into this (not vaguely state "fix compatibility" in the Agesa changelog but fixed nothing) and hopefully fix it for affected users who cannot afford to simply change rig like me... but for me, this experience have left a very bad taste.

I've got several X570 builds with different specs around but haven't seen this yet in the 1 year plus I've had them. Is this a fairly recent issue related to the new hardware that just came out late last year?
*
As you can see in the post, small sample of people... usually affected those power users who max loaded the USB ports, like me is a racing sim rig and an audio interface. Many cases also due VR. There are cases of people running multuple external HDD also kena. And also streamers who uses multiple cameras.

So that is why changing pcie gen4 to gen3 works for some people. And lowering RAM OC too for some cases. A quick google and it’s actually quite a huge sample size and had been happening for quite a long while.

So it’s a lurking issue and just waiting for a right situation to happen. That’s why this reddit acknowledgement from AMD came out mainly asking for hardware specs from affected users. Which also means this issue wont be fixed that soon.

I saw the reddit post that VR is the quickest way to replicate it. I dont use those so perhaps that's why I haven't experienced this.
*
yeap.. that could be the reason. That’s why AMD asking for hardware specs and USB devices used. Since now only ask means the fix will take a while.

apparently it also happens on specific ports. and it could be under certain conditions too... like during higher cpu/gpu loads.

But yeah best not to trigger it if it’s running fine, else will create some sort of paranoid haha.

It’s more of an AMD power management issue which is probably related to the USB issue... there’s a bigger picture rather than just a USB issue actually. Because it is also related to the PCIE, Ram and SATA, been giving me alot of headache when i was on ryzen. Never had such problem after moving to intel.

Now im interested to see how many more issues will appear since this has started to get noticed and people will most likely probe into this matter.

wasnt talking about your problem but to john's USB wifi and power management problem about USB suspend settings with ryzen... it's a common workaround to Ryzen's USB dropping off.

And his problem is with AMD not intel. And Im giving him an insight because I have had that problem on 3 AMD rigs. But FYI, not on my new intel rig.
