AMD is finally acknowledging the USB drop out issues on x570/b550 - https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/lnmet...ith_500_series/

Better late than never I guess.

It's a known issue for a very long time. causes inconvenience when i am backing up game archive into my usb storage devices.
So what are they gonna come out any fixes ? or is the problem is fixable in the first place.

So I am WONDERING when They are going to ADMIT there's some QC issues with certain ryzen 5000 cpu's especially the 5950x which causes random BSOD even in stock settings.

you dont understand that when agesa changes the electrical tolerance level, sensing etc. board design cannot accommodate this. ram fae has to retune dram sensing.

thats y when b550 was launched, aib could fix new design to accommodate the agesa at that time which is why zen 3000 cpu worked superbly with it.

its also the reason why x570 dark is the best mobo.

anyway like you said anyone can complain
but few understand the issue hence they dont understand the complaint

Same story , ppl always act in much less same manner. Herd mentality. Very pronounced in the financial markets.
My system no issues , so I presume it's other factors causing it, dun blame Amd, blah blah blah....

It does exist in some configs. Backing up large quantity data to usb storage devices especially external HDD easily replicate the usb dropout issue. Happens in my previous aorus Xtreme.

Its not about that. Majority of people buy these new chips 5600x 5800x 5900x as well as 10600 10700 10850 10900K for gaming.

The market should cater the majority of users who want to buy something plug and play and game worry-free.
Yes, intel is mature. Ryzen also 3rd gen already cannot be immature la. Consider mature finale version bec they moving to next architecture.

Then u have seisohai youtubers who are paid reviewers giving sohai benchmarks, fanboy or biased comments which lean majority of users to buy zen3 without telling the bad,the skewed tests. And majority 5900x users also run it at stock. Bec is still general population not bonchis and tristanxes.

*
It's the overall user experience that counts. There's no point in selling a cutting edge CPU but riddled with system stability issues.
Then there's questionable CPU silicon that bsod depending on ur luck. And now with prices above their original MSRP, it's definitely not worth it to buy into zen 3 platform.
Can't imagine that a consumer having paid top dollars for a cpu and still have to tinker for it to work stably. That's rubbish. Any new system should works ok at stock settings, bios defaults.
Any reviewers mentioned the new Ryzen CPU that gives the most issue or failed the most ?
No. Whatsoever. Silent. No follow-up reviews. Cos that honor belongs to Amd flagship 5950x.

Strange, recently my 5950X start to randomly blue screen with WHEA.

But there is nothing at event viewer on which WHEA code (18 nor 19).

Just a bugcheck and a large Memory.DUMP

The random blue screen with WHEA (no error code) seems to happen on idle only.
*
They all happens when the cpu in idle mode for random WHEA also when in bios default settings with NO XMP enabled. Make sure it's not caused by other issues or drivers or any OC settings.
Your only best solution is to RMA the cpu. And welcome to the club. another casualty to add to the statistics in https://www.overclock.net/threads/replaced-...eboots.1774627/
5950x are very prone to random WHEA blue screen.

Think I just discovered the reason the random blue screen and sometime reboot without bluescreen.
I overloaded my PSU. laugh.gif
I forgot I replugged my GTX 970 back into 5950x mainboard.......and the psu is Seasonic M12 520W PSU..... sweat.gif
Gotta purchase proper PSU next time. For now, 95W eco mode.
Still need to figure out what is going on the voltage.
Anyone with Zen 3 CPU here can check their CPU Core Voltage (SVI2 TFN) using HWinfo and mainboard model?
I wonder if this is specific to Zen 3.  hmm.gif
*
U re sure PSU ? 970 doesn't really consume that much power.

FYI, I did all the fine tunings on my OS and cpu which made my ryzen idle at 7C above ambient but it is no where near to what intel can achieve out of the box. Just admit it. ryzen’s boosting algorithm is terribly inefficient and has nothing to do with which OS is being used.

If you work as a lab instrument tester, I work as an analyst who deals with win server and linux on a daily basis on operations critical systems and data warehouse. Whose job is also to test on server reliability. that’s why I sorta able to tell in-depth and point out some of AMD’s flaws and why it is fast because I know about machine architecture. If you think AMD is smooth on linux, you’re terribly naive lolol.

there’s nothing to be biased about here. when it has a problem, it has a problem no point defending. if you keep defending then AMD will not be bothered to solve any of their issues.. Just like it takes more than 1 year for AMD to acknowledge the USB dropping off problems which is also related to NVME and sata drive data packets gone missing/corrupt in high read/write server scenario.

So now we should voice out on the high idle temps and over aggressive and inefficient clock stepping so that AMD would solve this problem that had been around since zen+

and no, you’d be surprise how many more are using windows for mission critical stuff than other OS. that’s why billgates is so rich. it’s more to do on the failover procedures than OS being used. And of course... not windows 10 lol.
*
There will always be fans defending AMD, no matter what. I betcha they already knew the USB thingy for a long time. Just that it's not on their priority list to fix it until now (so we acknowledge the issue u guys been talking about -for a year- and now it's time we fix it).
I betcha they already knew the actual cause of the random BSOD/ WHEA of Zen 3 cpu (particularly 5950x failures) , but kept silent on it.
There's also high possibility that fixing some of those issues will impaired the performance ; hence business wise it's unfix-able.

Some folks here had their points on what was wrong with AMD beginning with Zen 2 and now Zen 3. Bonchi and gang is not wrong for what they raised. But you keep harping on it over and over and over again, bitter A F, it gets tiring for the rest of us. You throw shade at the AMD fanboys, defending AMD blindly. But your constant hating has put you on the other extreme end of that spectrum now.
*
If AMD has done it's work properly and release products without much issues for users to grapple with; we couldn't complain much.
BUT in reality, it's NOT smooth sailing.....and not very PLEASANT user experience.

Im thinking an i9 10900k + a decent z590, if someone can let me know how much is the power utilization for normal use (watching youtube, music etc)
*
Checked my tnb bill since the day I used it, nope it did not add much at all . For normal usage, will be like using zen 2. Hardly can see any real spike. Won't break ur power bills that's for sure even if everyday gaming.

targon and Jedi got 10900K. Maybe cstkl1 too.

Cstkl1 is busy toying with RKL. ask him to share his RKL experience / results.

Just to update.. seems after upgrade to latest bios for MSI x570 tomahawk WiFi ; I don't get random BSOD

so all these while it's not cpu issue.. most ppl complaint whea error and rma the CPU... But most likely it is because driver issue on AGESA
*
Eh, did it reduce the overall boost / performance or make the boost less aggressive ?

yeap.. shittiest part right now. Glad I got my gpu before all the problems. Although if building a 10th gen intel rig still got some flexibility. 11th gen also suffer the same fate as ryzens.  (except the waste of sand 11700K can be found everywhere)
*
RKL not as bad as ryzens. Still can be bought readily as combo package. I think it's gonna be tough to find once the initial batches sold out.

Any first hand experiences with B450 ITX boards? Building a SFF rig mostly for Davinci Resolve, and on a tight budget (since it's not meant for me). I currently have a Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro ITX, but I'm wondering if selling that and going for a B450 board can save money without running into a host of issues in the process. CPU that'll be paired with it is a 3700X.
*
Just use the aorus pro itx. No need to waste time with older b450 boards. The pro itx doesn't use doublers. It's pure 6+2 phase direct. It will work great with 3700x.

Reminder for buying online. Check carefully on seller credentials. There's some illegitimate seller posing as established reseller right to using their store name, logo.

Hmm.....then I shall stick with AMD own power plan for Zen2.
On the other hand, today someone at OCN posted :

I m not surprised at all. It's saddled with stability issues that AMD do not want to acknowledge. Tiny as it is but a nuisance to the users.
I have ditched zen platforms and move back to intel. No worries and headaches. @Bonchi is happier with intel as well having ditched zen.
Kinda sucks when it doesn't work or Bsod even at bios stock defaults.

Stacked chips.... Launch prime, load CPU and L3.... gonna be a fire hazard lolol. Could potentially be their "desperate measure" against intel's finally able to get out of 14nm. Maybe alderlake will still be behind. But if intel continue to optimize their 10nm like their 14nm, things will be interesting. The competition finally begins.

we shall wait and see...... if those silicon will random BSOD at idle. as usual, lots of promises but falls short on stability

The high idle and higher power consumption is often a topic here actually. even just a few post above people are discussing this and they use power plans to dial down the usage at the expense of performance for lower idle temps and consumption, and change the power plan accordingly by usage.

Well you dont normally see this in reviews because all they do is max out benchmark and get the max results. They never record data like power consumption over 10 hours of browsing or music playback and gaming. However from AMD users especially some of them here who checks their hwinfo logs, that is what they noticed including myself. I remember my 3600 will go max all core 4.0ghz hitting 80C for just playing some flac audio files through foobar2K with some plugins... had to compromise by converting all my files to ALAC and play through itunes lol  sweat.gif
*
Reviews never tell the other side of the coin. All they care is telling the world how bad is power consumption with intel cpu while singing praises with ryzens.
Over the long run, intel low consumption at idle/low loading and ryzen lower power used at max load will cancel each other out, resulting in negligible/nominal increase in power bills even for intel platforms.
