This AGESA bios is something really missing in HW review everywhere. I always read HW review like Toms, TechpowerUp, Anandtech etc., but no one mentioned all the weakness but just end up with 'highly recommended' 'gold award'...So it give an impression to me AMD is 'perfect'. (me too native huh).
U didn't read the OCN forums and Reddit where it matter most. All the reviews are totally gold on Ryzens for those popular review sites. They didn't tell users the potential issues & problems especially with zen 3. Nowadays review sites are impartial, what matters to them is which product gives the highest output/performance instead of doing a overall/balance review on all aspects that any users should be concerned about.
I mentioned this issue before. Strange that Zen 2 3950X idle power consumption (including SOC and CPU, see below) is way better than Zen 3 5950X (Same as your results of 25 - 30 watts)
It's better silicon for 3950x . and has better idle wattage than 5950x. what's more it's more stable than 5950x remember that 3950x was released months later allowing for better binning i had one earlier bought just after it was released. My experience with 5950x was a disaster. Poor binning chip that Bsod at bios default settings.
year end hand itchy planning for upgrade the B450 mobo and maybe the 3700X CPU as well
checked online local price CPU price still reasonable, still on the high side, but not much scalping there compared to last year but celaka X570 mobo price is still ridiculous
buying from Amazon + shipping + tax also still cheaper than buying local
If u re hunting 5950x, there's combo offer with Ebucket. Offer only paired with 5950x. Nothing else. I m sure it will be irresistible if u see it.
Disclaimer : NOT liable if you got a lousy chip that bsod/whea. I m just pointing to where the offers are.
I still remember the 5950x and it's share of random stability problems depending on silicon quality. AMD forever tuning its agessa and nothing concrete comes out of it. Zen 3 promising at first, then shows its ugliness in real life Then the platform supporting it, chipset. They didn't really make a good work. Should have an updated chipset just for zen3 instead of their practice of having a single set for several generations of Zen. Unless they comes out with something cleaner and more promising, I will skip Zen 4, 5, ,6, 7, 8, 9, 10.... Usual AMD marketing nonsense, promising big big numbers at launch. The smaller bugs and issues not fixed down the road. There will always be groups of diehard supporters supporting them as usual no matter how bad its products. Saw this car with number plate AMD 2333 few days ago. Coming soon , AMD 3333. .... AMD long live. even with its inferior products.
I'll check for complaints first. More than 1 year of Zen 3 is enough for me.

I mean yeah, for sure gonna wait it out. Fingers crossed AMD learnt from some of their mistakes with AM4.
I did rather wait for others to discover all the hidden / undocumented irritating bugs associated with the platform. That may or may not be rectified throughout the life span. AMD has a poor track record on this.
$399 is $100 more than 5700x launch price, this price is competing with 12700k but whether it can perform better or not.
u re wise to wait cos the platform is not without its irritating minor issues. Performance is not everything bro. U gotta consider other points as well such as end user satisfaction , bugs not rectified as promised, endless Agessa updates, etc.. And all/most of the product reviews u read will not tell u the pitfalls until u encounter it by yourself
tbh if 7950x isn't competitive enough against the raptors then might as well go with the raptors lol...plus i really hope AMD has learned all the lessons needed from AM4 and roll out AM5 smoothly. but we'll see. either of which fails to deliver means going back to intel for me since I've had good experience back in LGA1151 days.
It's not the just the performance. Ppl tend to forget or overlook other factors such as platform stability and user satisfaction; so does all those reviews.
Of course it has to be the board with godlike price lol. Even z490 godlike selling for close to 4k today... I fear to guess what this'll cost like here.
Godlike priced above the Rog extreme. shld be above rm7k shld msi bring it locally
If u do unfortunately bought a lousy Zen silicon that Bsod / random reboot at idle , your only best recourse is to RMA the cpu and hopefully got back a better one that doesn't. It's nothing new.
Looking at the Intel i7 13700K TDP almost reaching 300W is quite a lot. Would my Corsair HX750W be enough if I were to game with a GTX4070/4080 in the future or something?
It's not gonna hit that in normal everyday use including gaming. unless u bench a lot........... u can limit the max limit in bios settings.
Was thinking of going the 7700 route as well, but waiting for better prices. The mobo prices are still too insane, and not many options yet. Raptorlake is something I would consider if really can't get the 7700 build at a reasonable price. Maybe like around RM2.5k(hoping Q4 or early next year hahahaha) for a 7700 with a B650 board with good VRM design and at least 4 SATA ports as I still use some HDDs for storage.
u re better off with raptors. no need to deal with minor unpleasant Zen nonsense that might not be fixed by amd. I5 13500 and a B660/B760 board will do the trick Depend on ur choice of Ram D4 - MSI B660m Mortar D5 - Asrock B760m sonic [no issues in handling higher tier cpu. comes with twin 8 pin cpu power] Both abt the same price
summary: der8auer's 7900X (given by a user, overheated and melted the IHS away) has had similar damage around similar area, and there's a chance it's due to EXPO (basically AMD's version of XMP) and VSoC. both EXPO and VSoC are highlighted by Asus in their statement regarding to the rushed BIOS updates, given to der8auer. in the video it is also implied that the issue not only affecting ASUS, but also other motherboards.
