Hi guys, I'm looking for a new credit card(s) that will hopefully maximise the cash back feature for my expenses. Currently, my monthly expenditure is roughy RM2k, but I'm only getting around RM40 worth of cash back per month.

1. Annual Income: RM60K

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Good to have, but not necessary. Main concern is the annual fees doesn't eat up into my monthly cash back amount.

3. Card required for: Here's the breakdown of my recurring monthly expenditures:
- Grab: approx. RM 100-200
- Dining (excl. Grab): approx. RM 500
- Petrol: approx. RM 380
- e-Commerce (e.g. Shopee/Lazada/Zalora/etc.): approx. RM 100 - 300 (there will be months with no spending in this category)
- Medication: approx. RM 450 every 6 months
- Subscriptions: Netflix, iCloud storage, VPN (approx. RM70)

4. Existing credit cards (if any): Maybank 2 Gold Cards, Maybank Grab Mastercard, Citi Cash Back Card.

5. Interested in CC from: None.

6. Others: Priority is on cash back, unless the reward points conversion rate is good.

Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks!
*
Check HLB Wise (Annual fee RM98 not waivable) if you spend Petrol, Dining, Lazada/Shopee on weekend to get RM15x3 CB + 0.25% on others.

PB Quantum Visa+MasterCard should be good for some of your spending.

1. Annual Income: RM 102k

3. Card required for: Grab & TNG, BT 0%, Installment Plan 0%, Cashbacks, Virtual Card that can use for Overseas Transactions

4. Existing credit cards (if any):
HSBC Amanah MPower Visa Platinum
CIMB Cash Rebate MC Platinum
MBB AMEX Platinum, FCB VS, Ikhwan Islamic MC Gold
SC JOP
AFFIN DUO VISA
PBB QUANTUM DUO MC & VP
HLB Wise (Unactivated)

For overseas transaction, you may consider Wise (TransferWise) App + Virtual Card, good exchange rate or buy the currency to keep when the rate is good, but you need to use Current/Savings account to top-up Wise wallet /transfer via Wise.

Sorry for offtopic a bit. What is the best way to pay for TNB security deposit of 1.5k for maximum cashback?
*
For Sarawak Energy Collateral Deposit bill,
CC with online CB -> Bigpay/Kiplepay -> (Prepaid card) swipe at counter/e-kiosk.
SC JOP / RHB CC -> counter/e-kiosk (contribute to meet monthly spending requirement for better monthly CB)

3. Card required for: due to business purchase, I will be spending ~18k per month/ 216k per year. So seeking to max

You should consider Business credit card instead of Personal credit card. Some credit card issuers especially The Tiger bank will stop giving you rebate/reward if they find out the transactions are not for personal consumption.

https://www.pbebank.com/Personal-Banking/Ca...iness-Card.aspx
Public Bank Visa Business
0.5% cashback, credit limit based on business income.

1. Annual Income: RM60-70K

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Upon hitting minimum spend/swipe

3. Card required for: Airmiles only

4. Existing credit cards (if any): Some random useless cards

5. Interested in CC from: Alliance Bank - Visa Infinite (application failed)

6. Others: What are the next best thing for airmiles? I have applied for Visa Infinite but it was rejected due to CCRIS having a "1" in one of my least used card which I paid late by a few days sad.gif Other than that all is "0". I think alliance bank will just reject me again if I were to try for Visa platinum the lower tier card. They suggested me to re apply after 6 months. Is that true?

Will I have another go by trying to apply with Ringgitplus for second attempt? Have any sifus here with similar past experience? Thank you!
*
Try other VIsa Infinite Cards especially Maybank VI.
Improve your annual income >RM120k for 2021.
You are not late to submit Form BE 2021 (due on 30/4) or Form B 2021 (due on 30/6).

Thanks for the motivation laugh.gif Long way there at least few years down the road.

Here's why VI not so attractive to me:

RM80K per annum spendings with RM100k income for waiver.
Earn up to 2 TreatsPoints for every RM1 spent locally.
Earn 5 TreatsPoints for every RM1 spent overseas.

But what I see is:
Education Institutions 1x Point
Insurance Providers 1x Point
Utilities 1x Point
Petrol 1x Point
0% EzyPay 1x Point
E-Wallet Reloads (effective 8 July 2019) NO Treatspoints / Membership Rewards / AirMiles / Cash Back

Terribly points system

Even with 5 TP per RM1 spent overseas, that will mean it's only RM1 = 1 enrich miles''

With TBP it does not lapse, and 8x multiplier and 6000TBP=1000 enrich miles, that will mean RM0.75 = 1 enrich mile.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Too bad as of 14th March 2022 TBP had added this clause:
Any spend amount above RM3,000 on each statement cycle for eWallet top-up, you will earn 1X TBP for every RM1 transaction.

Any other airmiles alternative?
*
Just because you want Airmiles ya, don't expect Platinum cards would give you good Airmiles value!

Public Bank Visa Infinite or Visa Signature. (Note: you need to apply instead of adding card to existing credit limit, due to higher income requirement than Quantum Visa/MC)

RHB World MasterCard or/and Visa Signature.
RHB-Shell Visa (AF RM190 but waived if 24 swipes/year)

Hi, I’m looking for a credit card for overseas spending primarily for reward points. My annual salary is approx RM150k. Currently I have Maybank 2 cards, PBB VS and quantum, Affin Duo and HSBC VS.

Appreciate some advice on the best card for the purpose. Thanks.
*
"Rewards point" - means Airmiles? Or normal rewards/rebate?

You may consider Bigpay, Wise Debit card or Maybank debit card, no rewards but you save 1%-2% on transaction fee.

RHB VS/WM may give 2% cashback on Foreign transactions, just like your other credit cards, you pay 2%-3% on transaction fee.

CIMB VI gives more reward points on foreign transactions.

https://www.rhbgroup.com/personal/cards/cre...view/index.html

You may have a look at the RHB-Shell Visa, Annual fee RM195 but waivable with 24 swipes/year.
You need to spend >RM800 in a cashback cycle (monthly), total posted transactions every [statement date - 1 day].
You don't have to spend every month.
You can top up SETEL ewallet (in advance) and keep the credit for Petronas fuel.
For Online category CB, you may buy Shell voucher at Presto (11street), Paysgift-Petronas voucher at Lazada, Shell voucher at Shopee (out of stock today), Shell voucher at Fave, top up Boost / TNG wallet / Shopeepay and pay at petrol stations (Shell, Petron, Caltex, BHP).

1. Annual Income: RM250k+

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A must or XXX swipe waive

3. Card required for: Standby for emergency and possibly for interest-free installment plans. Been using cash & debit card all these years. Planning to convert my spending to CC and enjoy points, cashback etc

4. Existing credit cards (if any): None

5. Interested in CC from: Anything as long as Islamic

6. Others: Require a supplementary card for my spouse
*
Maybank Islamic Ikhwan Visa Platinum (Petronas 8% weekend) and/or Ikhwan MasterCard Platinum (Grocery/Petrol 5% on Friday/Saturday)
maybank2u.com
Do not apply at maybank2u as you may be rejected by the M2U robot. Apply at Card Centre or branch where humans can read your documents.

RHB Islamic - Shell VIsa (up to 12% CB at Shell, up to 5% CB at Ewallet/ online / utilities)
rhbgroup.com

Public Islamic Bank - Visa Platinum/ MasterCard Platinum (up to 4% CB on specific categories)
pbebank.com

Study the products first then you may ask questions at respective thread here.

P/S: I don't know what and how much you will be spending every month. Interest-free instalment plans is just a bonus not a must to you, as your annual income is high (good enough to get premier cards but high annual fee, high spending requirements etc, ). Frankly speaking I don't have any instalments and balance transfer.

Thank you for the reply.

I think I’ll go with Maybank since I have an active SA with them. Hopefully will have some added advantage in the application process. Noted on your suggestion not to apply via M2U.

Roughly I think my CC would be between 3-5k monthly. Would the Ikhwan Islamic Visa Infinite be a better option as compared to those 2 cards that you mentioned?

it is a good card but
Annual Fee: RM800 (FREE for the first year, Subsequent years FREE if spend a min of RM80,000 per annum)

Affin Duo

5. Interested in CC from: Any but preferable not from the banks above

You should consider open a savings account when reach the new country. Use wise.com or Wise App (good exchange rate) to transfer the fund to your foreign account. Use foreign debit Visa/MasterCard to spend.

If you use a credit card issued in Malaysia, you need to pay 2%-3% extra for forex.

Also you may consider getting a Merchantrade Visa Prepaid or Wise debit card (wise.com), buy the currency in advance when cheap, then you don't have to pay Forex charge when you swipe the card.

In short, these cards were given to me by cimb when I started working for sometime and I've used them even since, I don't really use the points from cimb since it's always a mystery how to use them so looking at other ways that perhaps I can accumulate more points or getting more rebates.

Cimb has a cap of rm50 cashback only
*
You can use the CIMB reward points at selected merchants, convert your rewards points into cash...
https://www.cimb.com.my/en/personal/promoti...promo-page.html

If you stick to existing credit line from CIMB, you may consider CIMB Visa Infinite (Dining, Overseas transactions), CIMB-Petronas Mastercard (Petrol) and e-card (online).

You may look into Maybank FC Barcelona (general use except Government, ewallet), Maybank M2 Mastercard+Amex (general use except Government, ewallet), RHB-Shell Visa (Shell, Groceries, Online, ewallet), RHB Visa Signature (Online, Entertainment, Shopping, foreign transactions) or World Mastercard (Travel, Petrol, foreign transactions), HLB Wise Visa (Petrol, Dining, selected online/ewallet), HLB Essential Visa (general), Public Bank Visa Signature (Online, Groceries, Dining), PB Quantum Visa (Paywave) + Mastercard (Online), Affin Duo Visa (Online)+Mastercard, StanChart Just-One Platinum (Petrol, Groceries, selected Online/ewallet), UOB One card etc. T&C Apply.
