I got some clarifications from the phone number given. He is from Citibank acquisition team.

1) 3.8% 6 month FD rate for 1 New To Bank (NTB) client. Minimum and maximum FD amount are both 500k. No referral required.
2) Promo until 31 Oct unless extended.
3) If 2 NTB clients participate together, one will be "referring' the other, then the rate for both parties will be 4.8%. It's just an informal introduction is how I understood it.
4) Need to open a Savings or Current Account first at any branch (takes an hour or so) or, can meet the agent off-site to execute forms and provide docs (copies of IC & driving licence). The second option is slower, the account will be ready in 3 to 5 days. Minimum RM20 to open savings account.
5) Free debit card will be issued, and activation of online banking done by client
6) No need for both NTB clients to open accounts at the same time.
7) NTB clients can fund their CASA subsequent to opening, but the FD for BOTH will commence on the same date i.e. when BOTH have funded their accounts with 500k each. So it makes sense for both to fund on the same day.

Seems fairly straightforward then.

1 Million for 2 person, 4.8%?

Rates still going up. Next year very likely will hit 4.5%. Feds still hiking rates. Maybe up to 6% next year.
*
6% sound a bit too much, I think the best could be 4.8% maxed, next year

People would be screaming cuz the loan will be too much for them to handle

What I meant is US Feds hike the rates to 6%. Not the FD here. It is very possible.

Next year FD here easily 4.5% and in 2024, 5% FD is possible, unless US starts dropping the interest rates.
*
Depends if US feds is able to tame the inflation or not. So lets see, hopefully the interest goes up

QUOTE(Save N Earn @ Jan 3 2023, 08:14 PM)
If you have extra cash of 200k now, and your outstanding housing loan is RM1mil at 3.9%, FD rate is 4.8%. Do u want to use that extra cash 200k to pay your loan or put in FD? See below illustration:

1mil * 3.9% / 12 = monthly loan interest is RM3,250
(1 mil - 200k) * 3.9% / 12 = monthly loan interest is RM2,600
If u use that 200k to pay loan, u save RM650.

However, if u put in FD that gives u 4.8%, 200k * 4.8% /12 = monthly fd interest is RM800. It is higher than RM650 by RM150. Use the RM650 from RM800 to pay the loan interest and you have extra RM150 as pocket money.

In most circumstances, loan interest is always higher than FD interest. In addition, if you place fd with 2 years tenure to get the 4.8%, the risk is the uncertainty on how many times the OPR will raise that may result in loan interest rate is higher than fd rate eventually within the 2 years period. So, assess and calculate first before any decision.

Flawed, Amortization was not taken into consideration

Hi all the sifu here, my fund is available next week, considering either go for short term (Ambank 2 months at 4%) or just go for long term PBB 24 months at 4.8%? Can share your views? Thank you.
*
Go for Ambank 2 months @ 4% first by the time it expires, u still have time for 4.8% for PBB Islamic.

See if there are any more OPR revision within this quarter or not. Possibly there will be better rate from PBB later since they have been so aggressive for the past half year.

I am Invikta customer and the amount I put in more than qualifies for Invikta. But I think if you can place high 6 digits and your branch manager willing to help, then should be ok.
Why would I ask for 8 digits when I don't have 8 digits to put in. You trying to be funny? Which bank will believe you have 8 digits, unless you count after the decimal point!

My point of just ask is even if you have lower amount you can ask. No harm asking. Understand? I can get effective 4.4% rate from AMBank and in the end I placed with AMBank.
*
Just to ask, AMBANK gets 4.4% pure FD?
