do u think the vaio price will increase after PC fair?

i dont think so.

PC fair is just a gimmick. dont believe me you just wait until next week.
*
Yes, they will not increase the price based on the trend me and my wife established after 2 rounds of PC Fair excluding this one. After the reduction, they will maintain the new price point after the PC Fair and slowly EOL the series. Then they will introduce a new model probably CR with montevina and back to the new price point. However, I am sure that the list of freebies will be so comprehensive after the PC Fair. Granted they will still give out VAIO products but external HDD and the Office 2007 is one of the few things that is a PC Fair ONLY freeebies.

Guys, the freebies for the top model of CR series seems to be the best offer from Sony this time around. Let me list out the freebies:

1. VAIO (OEM Targus) briefcase laptop bag
2. VAIO slip in case (matching design)
3. VAIO optical mouse (matching color)
4. Western Digital MyPassport 160GB 2.5" External HDD
5. Microsoft Office 2007 Home & Student Edition (valid for 3 PCs)
6. CyberClean cleaning gell
7. VAIO USB hub
8. Wireless FM Transmitter
9. Edifier Mini Notebook Speakers
10. 2 years local warranty
11. 1 year international warranty
12. Free upgrade to 2GB RAM
13. Silicon keyboard cover/protector

Also, they upgraded the specifications for the CPU and HDD! Also the price has been reduced too!

The SZ also has similar freebies except for the mouse given is a VAIO bluetooth mouse. Quick grab your VAIO by tomorrow's finale!

Bought CR353 in JB, without items 6, 7, 8, and 9. Got a Vztec 3-fan cooling pad instead.
Not sure what other freebies given on cash terms (only saw pen drive, headphone given out), mine was on 12-mth interest-free credit terms (foreign bank), think using a local-bank-issued credit card entitled one to one or two more freebies.

Requested to have 1+1GB RAM changed to a single 2GB, having a mind to buy another 2GB for the remaining slot later on.

When presenting my SonyStyle card I was told by the dealer it can't be used. Checked out Sony Style outside PC Fair on the same day, a similar deal on offer but with fewer freebies and they can't change the 1+1GB RAM to a single 2GB. Also, buying at PC Fair made me forego RM80's worth of card points.

Bought Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 as well.

Questions:
1. For MS Office 2007's 'valid for 3 PCs', it doesn't mean that user can run and install the CD for a maximum of 3 times right?
On the packet there's this Activation Restrictions stating that Distribution and required product activation must occur in Malaysia. What does it mean? Can I use it in other countries?

2. The CR353 has a Norton Internet Security 2008 installer. Can the Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 run concurrently with Norton's or should I just not run (or uninstall) the Norton?

3. The WD 160GB external HDD is of no use to me (have plenty of them), I intend to sell it off but wonder about the warranty issue. The receipt I got from the dealer doesn't even have this item clearly stated. The invoice looks pretty much unofficial, the sales staff just scribbled it down almost illegibly. So is proof of purchase required for warranty claim?

4. There's no warranty for VAIO mouse right? (intended for sale) I ask because all my other mice--logitech, microsoft, philips--come with at least 1-2 years' warranty.

Question 1
The valid for 3 PCs simply mean license for legal use on up to 3 separate PCs. You should be able to install multiple times provided it is on the same PC and up to 3 PCs only. The Active Registration policy simply means the registration process must take place in Malaysia. If internet registration is required, it must happen on a Malaysian IP address. This special offer is only restricted to Malaysian users who bought laptops or any products meant to be sold in Malaysia. After installation and registration, you can technically take your laptop or use Microsoft Office 2007 anywhere as long as you're not re-installing and be required to activate again.

Question 2
The Norton Internet Security 2008 is not installed yet. Only the installer is provided and it gives the user a choice to install it or just leave it. As long as you have not installed it, you should be able to run your choice of security software without any problems. If you did install it, then it is recommended to have only one of them. Take note on the Norton's terms and condition: whether you're given one year of license or a limited time only.

Question 3
I notice this also when I unpacked the WD 160GB external HDD. There is not warranty information or card in the blister package. However, most HDD warranty period is tracked through the manufacturer website by identifying the product number and serial number. I suggest you cross check this information with WD. You should be able to find the warranty period granted. Use that as a proof. Warranty RMA with WD typically do not require proof of purchase somemore this item is a freebie and has 'Not for resale' stamped on it.

Question 4
VAIO's mouse should have its warranty on the blister package inlay. I am not sure about this though. Perhaps you should call up Sony Style?

Tried to order from the US website but you must choose a US state when you fill in your address. I guess that's the catch.

i just viewed the FW series on display at sonystyle times square. the design is quite sexy i agree, but there is one major problem i noticed. the LCD is not as good as the FZ series. FZ series using the LCD 90 technology but on FW its only the Lite version. its less bright and the colour contrast is very dull. it sucks so much that it is comparable to NR series LCD screen. lol. anyone agree with me? i think sony will (and should) fix this when they release the next FW version.

The charger says 19.5V and 4.7A on a DC rail.

Yeah I notice that too. I prefer Sony's LED backlit LCD technology. The blacks are just superb and the colors are very fruity. This is especially true for the SZ and TZ series. The SR however looks slightly toned down. Anyway CR's LCD ain't that bad although I was never satisfied when I first saw it at Sony Style.

Was told that the recovery data is already prepared on the hard disk. All you need is to burn it out to a disc. I have yet to confirm this though, but it should be provided. Either as a burn it yourself or prepared in a hidden partition.

Thanks so much for shedding light on my queries. In regard to:
Q1-- the screen shot of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 imprinted on the PC Fair flyer I got doesn't have the small print "Licensed for Noncommercial Use" and "Activation Restrictions--Distribution and required product activation must occur in Malaysia". And it's remarked "Free", "RM 499 (worth)" to tout potential buyers. Okay, I saw the same Home and Student 2007 pack (without the small print) retailing at SGD 249 in Singapore. The thing is, the free packet given to any buyer of CR353 has the small print right? (or yours doesn't have?). "Licensed for Noncommercial Use" fair enough, but "Activation Restrictions"? If this is the case as elaborated by davidmak, how can it be still worth RM 499? (it is almost worthless to one who purchased this and left Malaysia immediately afterwards.) Misleading advert?

Q2-- I wonder why the retailer didn't showcase this if buyers are indeed given a 1-year licence to use. Looks more likely a shareware programme? Since the day of purchase I haven't really had the time to get my hands on the NB so I don't know how it'll work out yet.

Q3-- You reminded me to remove the 'Not for resale' sticker before I put it up for grabs tongue.gif

Q4-- Opened the pack and found an operating instructions manual only.
A pertinent question: normally for freebies (say given at PC Fair in this case the mouse/external HDD, or received at company's dinner dance, lucky draw etc), particularly electrical goods/appliances, how do you make a warranty claim on it later on without proof of purchase? The warranty card normally stipulates that proof of purchase is required for the claim right?

Sony do not provide warranty for all accesories including VIO accesories. But within 3 days if something happens to your accsories. Bring it back to where you bought it and bring along the receipt, they'll exchange it with the new one. Only from Sony Style. I don't know about othes shops.

For Vaio or any other main product, they will not give you the warranty card. You'll be given a Product Card only stating your Product model, Serial number and date of purchase, for VAIO you don't need the Dealer stamp. It's not a proof of purchase after all. Go to http://www.sony.com.my/mysony/ for online warranty registration for all product including VAIO. They will give you extra 3 months warranty = 12 months plus 3 months from the date of purchase. Don't lie about the date of purchase, it's useless because they know (it's in their system i mean) Any problem or failure Just go to Collection center (Sony Style) for consultation or directly go to their main service center in Midvalley Megamall, next to it, there is a North Point, go there for the Sony Service center.

piku
Should be 19.5v

DreamKid
If you live in Malaysia i suggest don't buy from any other countries. Might have problem with the warranty. However, it's ok if you have Oversea Service covering Malaysia. For VAIO Overseas Service they shoul give you the copy of the form, service info card and they should stick a VOS sticker with the date of purcahse (make sure the stick it or else VOS will be voided automatically)

About the screen, yes, i have FZ17 and the screen is the best until i'd say i'm not attracted to the CR or NR or SZ at all. But IMO, i did't notice that the FW screen is dimmer compared to FZ. Slightly maybe, but not much different. I like the wide display and bigger resolution compared to FZ. I don't mind the battery life at all. The cons for me are: only 3 USB ports should have made it 4, three of them are near each other. And the headphone and microphine jack are at the front. I'm using speaker not headphone but i still can deal with it as i'll buy the external or ExpressCard Sound Card. I like the one with the black color keyboard. Nice combination. The keyboard. Some said Sony copy the design from Apple MacBook biut some said Sony created the keyboard first (go to http://www.notebookreview.com/ as it was claimed by them). I don't know man, i don't like it when people said Sony copy ideas from other, the Like No Other motto seems to be untrue.,

terencetoo
Discout RM200? You bought CR32/35 or CR323/353? But it's a good deal/bargain anyway.

Go to VAIO Recovery Center for formatting/reinstall driver or program. Or press F10 right after your laptop starting up. Follow step by step. It's that easy. If you want to recover your laptop you don't need to go the Sony Style to ask them to recover your laptop. Waste your time and might waste your money cause they charge RM60 per recover now, but not for the first time.

Don't forget to update the drivers. Go to http://www.sony-asia.com/ . Under support, go to Acces Product Support, go to Download, type in your model name. VAIO model name started with VGN-CR353G (example). And it will list all of the available updates/patches for you to download, make sure you read all of the instruction, It is very very important.

I target myself purchasing the FW at the end of the year. Good luck to me. smile.gif
