Thanks for the useful explanation malleus. Do u think the incident might have damaged my frame with the kind of shock? My whole body felt the shock the moment the tyre hit the edge of the longkang. I just bought it 3 days ago. So sad with such an unfortunate event.

A headlight is definitely useful then.
I just lean it against the wall.  No money to buy helmet, headlight, apparel, bike storage, and bike rack.
*
Don't think the frame will be damaged from this. These kinds of flats are actually a very common thing to happen. And well, don't worry too much about flats, as its bound to happen for those who cycle regularly. But its good to learn how to patch your tube as well.

A headlight is even more useful should you need to change your tube or patch your tube at nights smile.gif

I wonder how you all store ur bike, each trainer for a bike? i just lean it against wall now actually.. wondering if i shud buy / fabricate a hanger like those in shop..
*
I just make use of a simple side stand. Makes it a bit easier too when I need to clean the chain, cassette or crank as it lifts the rear tire off the ground.

side stand is easier to use as you just prop your bike up and put the bike onto the j-hooks of the stand.. the stand will hook the rear non-drive side rear triangle to support it... you can also turn the pedals with this sort of stand.. but have to be careful that you position the bike so the j-hooks properly clear your rear wheel spokes... also i don't like this as it slowly but surely wears down the paint on the spot where you hang your bike on...

this happens to your bike when you use it for long...

both should be around RM35 to RM40 for price..
I get around this problem by taping up the contact points. Carbon fiber tape on the chain stay, down tube, that spot on the left side of the frame where the cables rubs against the frame.

Also contact points between my frame and the side stand, contact points between my frame and my rear car rack.

there is always regrets in our life.. i'd rather live with a regret that i bought a bike i like a little less than the regret that i totally emptied my piggy bank trying to chase my dream bike down...

bike owning is an accumulated experience so far for me... with each bike... you add on criteria and personal requirements and touches that you want your next bike to be and you try to achieve that with whatever budget you have.. this way you evolve with your bike as your fitness goes..

there is nothing certain to say that your next bike will be absolutely the right one.. as until now... i never found my perfect bike that i like it the way i do... even if i do... i can wake up tomorrow and want something else... and that is scary...

that is unless you want to be a mind controlled zombie and let your bike shop point you to the most expensive rig in their shop and totally emptying your pockets and put you in huge debts...

buying, riding, tinkering and experimenting with your bike, experiencing it and learning to know what you want and what you are being sold is the single most important thing to owning a bike.. or else the sweet talking (i call it B.S'ting to be frank) finger pointing, calculator poking salesman is your best friend  blink.gif  not that i am against bike shop operators.. but their primary objective is to make a business and your priorities comes 2nd to that...
Awwww.. you no fun ler... smile.gif

QUOTE(butthead @ Jan 23 2012, 01:18 AM)
yeah.. i seen them bleed the avids again and again and it doesn't solve the mushiness problem.. end up just tell customers to give it a few pumps before riding and live with it...
*
Avids that bad? I mean, I hear ppl telling me to avoid those, but really that bad?

wat la... meddling with the bike is apart of the fun process for some people.. takkan everytime just throw it to the bike shops for everything right?

just like owning a sports car... you tend to put a few tweaks of your own in rather than hand everything to your mechanic... it's what makes it uniquely yours  biggrin.gif

i think letting the bike shop manage my bike is seriously no fun...

the avids minus that squishy feeling lever thing is a pair of great stoppers...  which is if you don't mind that squishy lever la.. but i won't bother, since it only happens if i leave the bike alone for a couple of days... once i give it a few pumps, it returns to normal

No lar, not referring to learning how to tune the bike on your own. More on teasing Silvy on his first purchase smile.gif

Hey guys, I am not saying I wanna a speedier and more expensive bike atm... Just saying it might be a wrong choice for me to go for secteur instead of allez, bearing in mind the fact tat secteur cost 200 more than allez.
*
It depends really. For me personally, what I would go for is:
- something that's comfortable for me to ride
- something that's easier for me to ride long distance (as in 100km+)

Right now you're just wanting to increase your riding distance, not rushing to do a particular distance in the shortest time possible.

after watching those videos, i kinda wanna go fast.. i think... lol well, as i said fitness and familiarity with road bike is low for me now..so better to start out with something easier like secteur 1st

well actually i am not desiring to get a  more expensive bike... for me, 4.2k is really sth i would nvr imagine i will actually spend on a bike...lol....
*
I'll say that being able to ride longer distance right now makes more sense than wanting to go fast right away.

Safety first! Let's ride in a group. And wear helmet. And everything that is possible to protect. Ok I am noob in this, let's start a discussion now. I think safety is what preventing frm cycling, esp chinese.
*
Well, I ride on the Kesas regularly, about 3-5 times a week. Either at nights (9pm) or early mornings (6am).

My route starts me off from Puchong (meeting place is at Yap Auto), to Summit (U turn) to Bukit Jalil (U turn at Endah Parade) then back to Puchong again. Its a 26km route, takes about 55-65 minutes to complete (not including stops if any). If really really really bored, we'll do 2 laps (at nights only).

This is a pretty safe route, just make sure to stick to the bike lane. And if you want to cycle this route in the mornings, make sure its really early in the mornings before there's too many cars at the U turns.

Not sure if that'll be a convenient route for you or not.

Sunday mornings, depends.. Can be off road, or a long route (50km+).

Things to carry (apart from helmet, gloves, water)
- spare tube
- tube patch kit
- hand pump
- spare chain link
- lights (one rear blinker and one front headlight). I find that the powerful headlight such as the magic shines tends to make you quite visible at nights especially when you have it on blink mode. Bright and blinking makes it easier for you to be noticed

1.25 on mtb looks erm .. .  whistling.gif

1.25 may look a bit weird, but its usable actually. Only know of 1 other fellow who uses this on his MTB.

But I hate to imaging the amount of work to inflate that tire with a hand pump if you happen to get a flat on the road. Inflating my 1.5s to 70psi is already bad enuff.

Its kinda the same idea as the 69ers (29 in front, 26 at the back)

Bigger tires in front to make it easier to roll over stuff, smaller one at the back to provide easier acceleration.

Came back home, havent even put it on the bike. the tire no more air again.

Next time in such a situation, just ask him to sell you the patch kit then patch it yourself smile.gif

Hi,

I usually do not post on this thread often as I do not  go into cycling. I do get myself a road bike at a shop recommended by a friend of mine. Haven get the bike yet but was looking forward to it. I did not know there are many road bikers in KL as I do not see much around in my area.

Anyway I just wanna share one picture. The bike cost around RM50k and its sold to owner who plan to put it as deco in his house.
Ok, that sure beats the guy who bought a Trek 8500 to ride in his taman only tongue.gif

I used to like the blacks, but I find that the silvers are more convenient in the sense that its easier for you to tell where there's grime that you need to clean off.

mind to recommend me which shop has fair price for accessories? i plan to get apparels, computer, helmet, pump, patchkit, shoe and front light. hope it wont exceed 1.2k for all these
*
waaah.. you very the hardcore ler.. I only collected the entire kit over a few months, not on the spot tongue.gif

- Helmet & gloves will be the first thing to look at.
- Pump you can get for under RM100. Patchkit should be pretty cheap. Can range from between RM15 or so at bike shops, all the way down to even only RM5 at Daiso. You'll also want to get a spare tube to carry with you too
- Computers, make sure to get at least those that measures your cadence as well.
- Shorts & Jersey, there's quite a large range for these. You might want to shop around to check. Mine costed me around RM300 or so for both the shorts and jersey.
- Shoes, I'll probably leave this one for last. Can't really comment much on it as I don't use the cycling shoes myself as yet.

You might want to get a saddle bag like this one: http://www.topeak.com/products/Bags/AeroWe...kt53arm541djq97

Your patch kit, spare tube, simple toolset, etc. will go into that when you ride. Basically any sharp edged objects goes into the saddle bag instead of your jersey's back pockets.

- glove, not critical at the money (maybe just me), unless you take a tumble
This depends from person to person actually. My main reasons for gloves is not for the tumble but:
- padded palms sort of helps with the vibrations
- padded palms helps too when I lean forwards for an extended time, especially when with a MTB I don't get as many options for hand positions as on a road bike
- MTB grips can be quite the uncomfortable on the palms of your hands for extended rides
- the back of the glove is useful as a nose wipe (yucks) when you're cycling tongue.gif

QUOTE(butthead @ Jan 26 2012, 08:38 PM)
1) never buy their road pumps as i have 2 pocket rocket which is missing their reversible scradder - presta converter.. proprietary to topeak and they dun bring spares in even though topeak site has servicable kits available for replacement...
dropped the little bugger once at a bus stop when I was helping a buddy pump his tire. good thing we managed to find it. but watch out for petrol station pumps though. not all bike tires r designed to take that sort of fast inflation from those pumps

QUOTE(butthead @ Jan 26 2012, 08:38 PM)
2) beware of their saddle bags that use strap instead of clip... seen couple of cases where the strap clips broke..furthermore, strap ones are troublesome
yeah. heard about this one. I got mine with the straps before I was told about this, but so far still lucky.
