eeeeee... I used to think that an OK bike of around RM1000 will be more than enough for me already, as I'm only using it for exercise.

But once addicted that's it lar. the plastic card will protest already.

okey comment noted , thanks guys

am using tektro draco hydraulic brake btw
went for checking today , they say rotor is okey one, its normal for the sound  cool.gif  , and hv to bear w it  wink.gif , other bike also sometime scream the same song ..
otherwise hv to opted for brake pad change  hmm.gif  rclxub.gif
*
Yup, its normal but can be annoying. What you can do is:
- clean the rotors with alcohol (I tend to do this quite often anyways)
- sand the brake pads with sandpaper. start with medium then go down to fine. you just want to scrap off the very top layer of it, not the entire thing.

90k over rolling terrain or 90k flat?
*
Rolling, with quite some nice downhills to coast down to recover after the climbs.

Trying out a 90-100km route first to see if I can survive a century ride or not tongue.gif

route map's here: http://maps.google.com/?q=http://share.abv...120108-0630.kml

thought the hulu langat loop was longer than 90K... this is the one that passes a hill first into the semenyih dam right? near the broga area... quite a tough ride this is...

on days that i have nothing to do... i like to take my ride to batu caves -> ulu yam -> batang kali -> gohtong jaya -> genting sempah -> gombak and back home...

just over 100K from home and over 4000 feet of elevation... if i were any better a climber, i'd try genting highlands before i go down from gohtong jaya... but furthest i reached on my good day was the temple before i gave up.. the gradients are a bit too tough for me beyond those points and i have to worry about getting home...

nowadays i just find excuse to not go far... hardly even go genting sempah anymore  blush.gif

century is not hard if you have companions... i've done the longest at 190K which i spend like 2 hours slogging the last 30K of flat road going home... totally depleted of everything on that day...
*
First time doing that loop actually. Not sure what the actual distance is supposed to be. We started out at the car park next to the Masjid in Semenyih, crossed the road to Jalan Sungai Lalang, then went north from there, passed the 3 memorial parks, till we hit the dam area. Kept following the road till we came to a fork on the road, then turned to the west which took us up a killer 2.5 km climb. Followed the road till it loops back at the dam area, then back south down to where we started at again.

Planning to go there again this Sunday, same place but slightly longer route according to the guy leading the ride. 110km this time.

i try to stay off rides that has the sun directly on top of my head...  those rides are torchering like hell.... not to mention the after effects of sun burn...
Ah right. That's the reverse Broga loop isn't it? Tempted try that one on my next ride after this Sunday

The sun isn't too bad if you start out really early in the morning. And sunblock helps a lot smile.gif

And yeah.. that impossibleisnull guy is mad.

i attempted that one.. my mistake was to ride there from home... did for what i didn't know was half the loop and reversed back... this is one of those rides that suck everything out of you... literally crawling home under the hot sun at 3pm that day icon_question.gif

never gonna try it again...
*
Gaarrrrghhh... 3pm.. that's hot.

One thing I learnt about long trips is, start really early smile.gif

We started out at 6.30am last Sunday, before the sun came out. Pretty nice view when we got to the hill climbs too, just as the sun was coming up.

The question is also whether after spending so much and encroached into a medium range or expert range bikes, I would not have the skills to control the bike and end up falling and breaking the bikes into bits..

Assuming my budget is 4.5k only, which bike would you recommend?
*
Silvy, thought you were looking at a MTB (Trek X-Caliber)?

my mom laughed about wearing a construction safety helm = ="

I only managed to do a 22.4km/h avg speed on my first ride.. seems like only slightly faster than my mtb.. doing a 800m x 13. Many corner and cars.. Geram..
*
Ok lar.. First time I cycled on my Diablo MTB, 6km already feel like want to die smile.gif Just need to keep pushing yourself constantly to build up your stamina.

Been laughed by my family member for unable to get a helm
*
Well, a good helmet is a good long term investment. My first cheap helmet didn't last long before the straps started coming loose. Helps to shop around to check out your options.

I dont really like Trek actually, after going to GH Speedbikes in Kota Damansara. Their service is much better.

But it has got good reviews online though the Trek 1.2.

Pricey? What is a fair price then for a 9 speed? Maybe i should consider specialized since their services are very good. But for 3k + budget i think my option is allez (the cheapest model). Is that better than trek 1.2?
*
You can also try Prorides Cycle Center over at Bandar Puteri Puchong. They carry Trek as well. You can compare their service too.

Tri apparently hehe.. well that's long term plan, see if I get to join this year's PD triathlon or not

On the other hand, what the advantage of 10 speed to 9 speed? I cant really cycle at 2x10.. gear ratio too high for me to handle
*
I almost never do 3x10 on my MTB on a flat route. Normally only go up to those high gears on a downhill.

You'll need to count the gearing ratio on the cassette to compare the 9 vs 10 speed.

trek outside of trek concept shop? weird.. but worth a try...
*
Half their inventory in the shop are Trek bikes, and they just restocked too.

Only see MTB Treks there though, but they should be able to do orders for you.

anyone on a leg powered 2 wheeler is a cyclist  biggrin.gif

never ridden a track or fixie as well... somehow doesn't feel natural without brakes...

To be honest, the first feeling I'll have is to be freaked out if there's no brakes smile.gif

I'm a mountain biker too smile.gif Just swap out the tires for slicks when I do road cycling.

I guess a road bike is better for road use, but well, space constraints allows me only 1 bike for now.

i was reading secteur vs allez the whole morning..... seems to suggest that allez is a honda city while secteur is toyota vios.

to be more factual, allez is more suitable if you are gonna ride it for 1 hour and below but if gonna ride it for more than 1 hour the comfy offered by secteur will serve u better.

anyone going to putrajaya to ride soon? let me know. hehe. i have no friend is into biking..so unhealthy!
*
Chances are that you'll be wanting to ride for more than 1 hour, unless its your routine exercise route that you do a few times a week smile.gif

Probably gonna do another Sunday morning trip to Putrajaya when I get back to KL after CNY. Starting out from Puchong to Putrajaya and back, around 65km or so.

QUOTE(Sky.Live @ Jan 20 2012, 03:55 PM)
Just a meter will do that too right? I bought one together, less than RM100, din opt for the wireless one which is below RM200. U don't really need an advance monitor unless you are going serious cycling
*
If you're after a meter, make sure to get at least the ones that can monitor your cadence as well.

And if you're going for the wireless ones, watch out for the light that you're using as well. The battery on the magicshine type lights tends to distort the wireless signal to the bike computer from the sensors.

So I went to cycle last nite and went over the metal thingy covering the longkang which has gaps each measuring like 30mm.. If u noe wat I mean.. My bike is 25 mm.. My bike I guess went into the gap and hit the cement edge of the other side of the longkang.. Wat followed is gass hissing from front tyre and it became a flat...  After inspection, I found the tyre to be in good condition ie no holes.... Wats the problem with my tyre? Can it be rescued? Or I need to buy another one?
*
The tube's got a puncture. Normally can be patched, unless its really bad. Only way to know is to take out the tube and inspect it.

Basic kit to carry with you for handling flats are:
- tube patch kit
- spare tube
- hand pump

Also a decent light is rather useful for these situations, so you can see such spots that'll give you a flat if you're to go over them, or worse send you flying over your handlebars.
