QUOTE(Selectt @ Feb 12 2018, 02:39 PM) how did you know? i am a beginner in mkbs, still trying to learn about basics, as i usually fail to understand and interpret correctly most of things about qualities of mkbs posted by others, especially those related to differences between good and bad boards/switches/parts/mods. there are good reasons why names like filco, varmilo, leopold, ikbc, and now cm masterkeys s pbt are suggested for beginners. QUOTE(antaras @ Feb 12 2018, 03:05 PM) ummm... after all, this in the Mechanical Keyboard Club... people should be interested with mechboards in here. hahah... right QUOTE(Selectt @ Feb 12 2018, 03:26 PM) right it's a special niche hobby for me it's just two practical parts about mkbs that attract me: repairs and customization. (i can live with cheapo gh60-based builds, with everything done right according to my preferences) for others, it's the combination of these two, plus other quality-related parts (spells 'expensive'), e.g. exclusive collections, arts, etc. edit: .. it so happened that i have all the tools now: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « all mysteries about this kbdfans-5-degree case is now solved. basically the assembly is pretty simple. the insulator rings prevent the bottom case standoffs from touching components on the pcb, and i think it's important to cover all of the standoffs. i think you can replace them with anything that can achieve the same insulation effects (e.g. a layer of electrical tape with punched holes for screws) This post has been edited by horns: Feb 12 2018, 05:52 PM |

QUOTE(antaras @ Feb 8 2018, 10:10 AM) I think I would also suggest to try hot-swappables like the Tecware Phantom. It's a cheap board that allow users to hot swap switches. They can try out different switches a lot easier and faster. However, no comment on quality as I had not try them yet. QUOTE(horns @ Feb 8 2018, 11:43 AM) yes of course they should read it. that article gives a good picture on the vast choices of mkbs lol is there other mech keyboard cheaper than Tecware phantom? can i say any cheaper than rm150 is trash? tecware phantom is less optimal as a starter board for beginners. yeah it's cheap that i agree (hot-swappable sockets are a plus too), but it doesn't reflect better qualities of a good board imo. (it's like the comment about team.wolf in that article you posted) as always, don't take my words for it. just find some time and play with it in any shop that has demo units. /cheapskating since taiwan/china made keyboards has similar quality |

QUOTE(horns @ Feb 12 2018, 02:33 PM) the kbd-5 degree is here, with kailh box red. as i suspected, the lelf shift doesn't have stabilizers (but it works fine without them; no wobbles, no rattles) By any chance the rattly stabs are these from kbdfans?» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « this is a prebuilt version from kbdfans. i will use it for a bit before a total disassembly is done. the overall build quality is decent for a CIY board. i'm surprised that the stabs are actually solid. they are different from stock/prebuilt gk64 (Chinese-made cherry-style pcb-mount stabs; gold-plated wires; screw-in type) Gold stabs Those are the screw in ones. I'm thinking of getting the GH60, but not sure the difference between the screwed in ones and the slotted in ones. Intending to get these stabs. Any idea it'll be good? |

Any idea it'll be good? for builds that require pcb-mount stabs, i will choose screw-in instead of slot-in, because the additional screw will secure the stabs on pcb much better. alternatively for screw-in stabs, you can also get gmk's, https://www.zfrontier.com/m/3129 i have pcb-mount stabs in the second link also (transparent type), but i never used them, so no experience with them yet. QUOTE(philynn @ Feb 13 2018, 03:15 PM) Gotcha. For some reason i keep thinking screwed in ones are less desirable. yes the shorting is real. it happened when i replaced a cnc aluminum case for filco previously. luckily it just caused few keys to malfunction temporarily. after i placed a layer of anti-slip mat and a thin layer of plastic between the pcb and case, all are fine again heheTurns out the thing to watch out for is to insulate between the the screw and the board to prevent shorting. Thanks for the clarification and your kb shots earlier i have another gk64 pcb mainly for casual switch testing. it's time to get it a proper housing |

Hello fellow enthusiasts.
I've been eyeing on a Pok3r in MX Brown for quite a while but I a real question about it. The RGB model PCB has two layers while the non-RGB model has only one. I am VERY picky with the sound of the keyboard and I've been hearing the non-RGB model sound in YouTube which certified my purchase. But I do not know how does the RGB model sounds like in MX brown. Is it a noticeable difference or do they sound completely the same? (Yes I know the Pok3r RGB comes with ABS keycaps instead of the PBT that they usually offer but I am going to change the keycaps anyways) |

QUOTE(watermineral @ Feb 17 2018, 06:53 PM) https://www.mwave.com.au/searchresult?butto...w=Varmilo+va87m there is no need to get the chicken dinner version, because it's a limited version themed after the game pubg (exclusive collection only). you can just grab the cheaper base option (with red or blue leds), with stock side-printed key cap set. also note that the leds in va87m is at the south of the switches. Australia do sell but the normal version no led and the chicken version does not look good. Do u mean buy from tmall and send it to Malaysia? yes i meant buying it from tmall and send it to Malaysia, because shipping to Malaysia is cheaper. it usually takes about a week to reach here in Malaysia. edit: sorry i assumed that you're now in Malaysia instead of Australia.
