i am a beginner in mkbs, still trying to learn about basics, as i usually fail to understand and interpret correctly most of things about qualities of mkbs posted by others, especially those related to differences between good and bad boards/switches/parts/mods. there are good reasons why names like filco, varmilo, leopold, ikbc, and now cm masterkeys s pbt are suggested for beginners.
right
right it's a special niche hobby

for me it's just two practical parts about mkbs that attract me: repairs and customization. (i can live with cheapo gh60-based builds, with everything done right according to my preferences) for others, it's the combination of these two, plus other quality-related parts (spells 'expensive'), e.g. exclusive collections, arts, etc.

all mysteries about this kbdfans-5-degree case is now solved. basically the assembly is pretty simple. the insulator rings prevent the bottom case standoffs from touching components on the pcb, and i think it's important to cover all of the standoffs. i think you can replace them with anything that can achieve the same insulation effects (e.g. a layer of electrical tape with punched holes for screws)
