i went to check out tecware phantom rgb just now. after reading all the user comments from various places, i almost believe that it's an outstanding option, until i tried typing on it. let's just say, 'you get what you pay for.'

don't get me wrong. it's still one of budget mkb options out there. however if you had the choice, i still think it's better to invest on boards with better switches.

well cant compare to what u have.
pre-builts sucks much. ha ha
except Filco coz Filco is love, Filco is life. rclxm9.gif

really? i bought one of them and chose the blue outemu switch, and it definitely feels better than mx blues so far, not sure about other outemu switches, havent tried. but i have 2 mx blues keyboard with me right now, and the outemu blues definitely feels more pronounce, and feels better on hand.

im pretty taboo about using blues for gaming, but im actually using these as my main driver/gaming right now. on csgo/pubg.

yea, i read that outemu blues produce more pronouce clicks.
but a new kibod, will definitely feel better than old kibod.
my ducky blue, feels sucks now after more than a year. Filco blue is still nice after 4 years(bought used), but im kinda bored with blue oledy.
no wonder all the sifus likes linear.

uh? it feels better for you? i do use blue switches casually from time to time; cherry mx and gateron (gat blue still have their clicky effects intact, because i don't use them daily). the demo tecware board i tried on has outemu blue. for some reasons, i do experience minor switch inconsistency during typing. maybe it's a demo board, and have been used by many for testing all this while; or maybe it's just my own preferences doing tricks on me.

which 2 boards do you have? i am curious about boards with blue switches that you're comparing to.

not all pre-builts suck. i still like filco, varmilo, and ikbc lol (they can be even better if minor mods are done to them, i.e. for case and switches)

i have the filco and cm qfr with blue switches. laugh.gif maybe its just preferences, or the outemu blues is already worn out. my qfr is also almost 4-5 years old. sweat.gif

yeah that's what i suspected (switches being worn out for some reasons). like one of our sifus here said before, a more sensible total key strokes for switches is about 10mil, not 50mil. i still find it hard to believe that 10mil strokes have been reached as a demo board.

hidden qualities like switch endurance and reliability can only be proven with time. some of my boards are also more than 3 years old already. besides wear and tear, they are still working like new (some of them are not second-hand; but many-hand lol)

maybe haha it's always combos of different parts that make a mkb nice. (although in this case switches might be the main issue)

although tecware boards have almost all bells and whistles, there are shortcomings here and there if you started to be picky. still, for most new comers for mkbs, boards like this is a good buy because of the price. one thing good for beginners to get tecware is that it lets us swap switches easily. instead of switch testers, imo a full board can give us a better idea on different switches, and mods done on them, without spending much relatively.

don't get me wrong. tecware boards is still one of choices for budget-tight users, just like any other affordable options in the market. my previous comments were based on my own comparisons between my other boards with the tecware unit (and i really try to be as objective as possible). to me, i still think it's better to spend a little extra for better qualities.

Still work in progress. Currently it houses the Outemu Browns from Teamwolf Zhuque, my plan is to put Hako Clears on them. But Hako switches doesn't ship until next year soo... sweat.gif
But I might just get some Kailh Box Whites and put them here, if the temptation is too strong. laugh.gif However these browns doesn't feel half bad at all. Although not as smooth as Gateron browns, the tactile feedback is a lot more pronounced.

Anyway this is my first dab in ortholinear board. Gonna try out different layouts and see which one works best for me smile.gif

Do you prefer something like Preonic or Planck? Or do you like columnar-stagger instead of perfect matrix?

I got this mainly because it seems kinda interesting to have nav cluster in the middle and the price is reasonable. smile.gif

with that budget, maybe used ikbc c-series or filco majestouch/ninja. you should check out garage sales section mymkb fb for good deals also.

er neither. i will choose xd75re if i were to go for those layouts. i prefer standard layouts (as in those found in pre-builts) however i might get some for casual testing purposes later lol

yeah the price is fine, replacement parts are easy to get, etc. actually it's good for those who wanna learn more about basic customs

I see. I am also too used to the normal staggered layout that my typing speed on this ortholinear board is terribly slow. But I find it pretty nice for gaming as this kind of grid layout is really easy for the fingers to get around. This board might just end up being my glorified gamepad, haha.
