.. maybe the previous reply was oversimplified. to build one is simple, with complete kits and tools. to build one that suits your actual expectations is also simple, but requires more than that.

it's the process of building up expectations that needs time. start with a good prebuilt, so that you can get the better idea of what your own board will be, e.g. switch type, case type, key layouts, features, mods, etc. that all contribute to a better custom board for you.

btw you can also choose to do mods on prebuilts.
