So this was the MKB shop i went to go visit. This is a very good place if you intend to purchase Ducky MKB and some of the other brands locally in Malaysia (these days no longer have to import, local market now has reliable distributors). They got an online store at lazada, or you can buy direct from their shop located at Pelangi Square, Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

https://www.ultimatchsolution.com.my/

another great thing about this store is they also have teaching sessions if your interested to learn about soldering so you can DIY by switching out switches when the need arises. You can then buy new switches and install it yourself when some switches has issues, or you can modify your switch layout with different switch types. They even had some models with modular switches that don't require soldering. It's just remove/replace (no soldiering involved).

also if you are a serious buyer, you can try out MKB before making your decision which switch and model you like most. they don't mind.

I was pleasantly surprised that they had ducky year of the rooster Limited Edition MKB. pbt double shots. RM799 and they got 6 units in the whole of Malaysia. if you want one, you had better go buy now before out of stock. Quality wise it's way better than my old tiger limited edition, and cheaper than when i bought mine as well.

in total for world wide, only 2017 of these units were made o-O;

the boxing is very nicely packaged, but more important the MKB itself also feels like a very premium grade mkb. it was nice to look at and type on (tested). I recommend this mkb if you're a collector and want to add something artistically cool to your work station desktop tabletop.

the other collectible i saw was a 711 Ducky limited edition. This one has a variation of different cherry mx switches. Seemed usable for me. It's nice collectible if you want a mkb with a variety of switches. RM 579

Most of the lowyat members probably will go for something more minimal and budget oriented. So i also checked for that at the store nod.gif for their budget minded model, i saw these that i liked

QUOTE
- Ducky One tenkeyless Pbt keycaps which are side printed. You see the txt via the sides, so when typing it doesn't wear them out. Price RM 369  (just keep in mind this does not have numpad if your not familiar with tenkeyless term)

QUOTE
- they also had this ducky tkl but not sure how much. but i recall it was doubleshot pbt with lighting

QUOTE
- Ducky Zero non backlit. double shots abs keycaps. Rm 319. even though it's the cheapest they have, the contrast on these double shots are quite crisp. i would not mind using this as a daily usage mkb.

they got other brands too, but these were the ones i looked at the most.

One of the newest switches i tried was a Cherry silver. this video is an example of these switches in action. i tried and it's and it's something like a RED brown hybrid. red with tactile similar to a brown. actuation similar to a red but with tactile feedback which is more to my tastes.

Silver and Brown are my favorites atm

PS: some of these ducky mkbs with pbt, they also add in spare pbt keycaps which is a nice extra.

*update

added very high quality pics in imgur album gallery via links. also due to pic limit, so added most of the pics to imgur gallery if you want to see smile.gif

Hey everyone,

I planned to buy a new mechanical keyboard.

Any Corsair K70 users here? Mind to share your experience? Is it good?
Or any other mechanical keyboard suggest?

I have Razer BlackWidow Chroma, it actually nice, but I have claimed RMA 3 times just because of the keyboard light not in sync. Now the warranty has expired, and the last RMA I claimed work fine for the half years, but the keyboard lights not in sync still happen, and some numpad key is not responds well when i press it. It's kinda disappoint to me that razer product was my favorite, but the keyboard spoiled it.

i have k70 rgb with cherry mx red. it's a decent but overpriced board, with dedicated media keys and win lock. it's been with me few years now and it still work fine functionally. in terms of rgb lighting, i spilled drinks on it before, so few leds are dimmer now.

its obvious weakness is the thin abs key caps. key shines developed after a few months of heavy use; the paint on the caps are too thin, there are also signs of wear-off on mine. you can replace it with pbt double shot caps from corsair to make it complete. however, if you intended to play with different key cap sets later, note the non-standard bottom row. options are quite limited.

personally for boards with rgb that are available locally, i prefer iKBC f108 (or f87 if you liked tkl). cheaper, but with decent pbt double shot key caps. it uses standard key cap layout (no non-standard bottom row), so finding key cap replacement is the easiest. of course, the better option is the mf-series, which comes with aluminum case. however it's not available locally.

try ask in cm thread and see how it goes? maybe quovadis123 can shed light on this but i think it still depends on cm themselves.

after some weeks of typing on them, i think gateron linear switches are the closest replacement for cherry mx of the same type. (with some minor differences in typing feels)

when you're ready to play with them more, you should try switch lubing. this alone will make the switches much better to type on than stock.

the 'bad' thing about switch lubing is that you lose significant interests in pre-built boards, which are now happening to me :/

you can find a lot of info about this at youtube. basically it means painting thin coats of grease or grease-oil mixtures on contact points and spring in switches, making them smoother, and to some extent, quieter. you should lubricate stabilizers for the same purpose, too.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

for purists, they have their standard lubrication mixture based on expensive stuff (if you bought them from the wrong sources). tbh, you don't need those to achieve similar effects. there are plenty of alternatives which are cheaper than you thought. i'm happy with the results of lubed switches using Super Lube which can be found at AceHardware. (i use one lubricant for all. just control the amount applied will do the job fine. also, i purposely use more than needed for all lube points, so that they feel soft and cushioned) about that feel of stickiness, just type on the keys more. it will go away.

some said that different switches are lubed in different ways. so be specific when you find out the 'standard' way of lubing tactile or clicky switches. (i use linear switches so it's the easiest; lubing all contact points, without paying attention to potential loss of tactile feels or clicky effects. they are still consistent, relatively, through out all switches)

you can do this for prebuilt boards also, but it might involve tedious soldering/desoldering processes. (simple, but tedious; needs a lot of patience) this is why it's better to do everything when you build a custom board.

Hello all!

I would like to start making my own mech keyboard. How does one get started?

Where to buy parts?
Is there a lot of soldering & coding involved?
Is there a beginners kit I can get somewhere?

wow nice smile.gif however, your questions need better advice from more experienced users, because it really depends on how far you wanna go in building a custom board.

you wont need to do any coding at all if building from existing kits. (pcb, switch, case etc unless you going for hand-wired keyboard) keyboard kits can be get from taobao, usually 60% has more varieties. Price range from 300 to 700 and can be higher (Rm1000+) depends on your choices. Got 60%, TKL, Fullsize, 65%, 1800layout etc. Only soldering skills and simple tools (soldering iron, sucker, solder. watch youtube for more guide).

Thanks for your reply. Gives me a general idea. didn't expect that it could jump to RM1000.

Maybe i'll just get a Ducky One kb and call it a day! tongue.gif

.. maybe the previous reply was oversimplified. to build one is simple, with complete kits and tools. to build one that suits your actual expectations is also simple, but requires more than that.

it's the process of building up expectations that needs time. start with a good prebuilt, so that you can get the better idea of what your own board will be, e.g. switch type, case type, key layouts, features, mods, etc. that all contribute to a better custom board for you.

btw you can also choose to do mods on prebuilts.
