But these issues raised some concern with its true ability in protecting viruses

I'm not really in a position to comment though as I've never used it

Once u install vista without any antivirus post-installed, the Windows Security Center notification icon at the bottom right corner will turned red, indicating security issues and in this case for the lack of avtivirus. Click the icon and it'll pop the Windows Security Center window. Under the "Malware Protection" / "Virus Protection" tab they indicate the lack of antivirus or non updated Spyware scanner. There's a little "Find A Program" button whereby it can directed u to another website where u can get Antiviruses provided by Microsoft Partners like from Symantec, Trend Micro, CA and few others. U can try it for free. Done it myself using Symantec Antivirus trial for 90 days.

You can try Nero Burning Rom 7.7.5.1. It's compatible with Windows Vista. It's available at Nero and filehippo.com. Bear in mind that this is a trial software. smile.gif

u enjoy installing AV and reinstalling them??
OMG, that is the worst thing to enjoy.lol
have to update and deep full scan..waste lots of time..
i accept that Norton 07 is quite good, its just that it takes lots of memory that makes the computer lag easier.. rclxub.gif

ICSA has released a list of certified Vista AV
http://www.icsalabs.com/icsa/main.php?pid=...d$eaa4-72b
but remember..AV companies have to pay to get tested. So not all AV products may be in the list yet but works just as fine.

Guys.. I heard that kaspersky consume very big memory in Vista.. anyone can confirm it to me??

I've been using Kaspersky up to now for my XP. Now changing to Vista... I'm still looking for a good anti-virus to use on it.. thought of kaspersky... but need some clarification on the memory used by kaspersky in Vista.

I am using Kapersky in my office. If u enable start up scan of course it will scan ur pc each time u reboot. Just disable it and instead do a monitoring.

NOD32 free??? anyway buying Antivirus supporting vista is pretty affordable. Have you checked retail outlets? i saw some thread by a fellow forummer writing that he bought some AV at RM40... Cheaper than the vistayou have....unless the vista is also not genuine.... brows.gif

My Vista genuine I think laugh.gif .. my cousin gave it to me... says he got it from MMU thingy/occasion/event which I don't really pay much attention on it.

For the moment are using Avast.. until I change my proc, ram and gc... to C2D system... I'll be using Avast for now.

Just wondering though.. I still don't know how to turn off the Start Up scan by Kaspersky. How arr?? Please teach me sifu. Seems that I am unable to search for the option to do it sweat.gif

Is N360 classified as an internet security suite? i don't think so but correct me if I'm wrong....If it was, won't it be replacing or in direct competition with NIS?

All in one software??
i was once using norton security.. it was really heavy, taken lots of memory..
and i dont really think that just for home users, we need all those all in one software..just a waste..correct me if im wrong though tongue.gif

And zonealarm with AV also didn't satisfy me..i ended up using back my zone alarm pro, spyware doctor and NOD32 smile.gif i think it works better than all in one security icon_rolleyes.gif

Norton 360 is better than Norton Internet Security 2007 in some respects, namely that it's lighter on system resources.

Check it out here for the comparison of N360 VS NIS 2007

The good: Norton 360 is mercifully light on system resources; it's intuitive, covers most of the bases that a comprehensive security-and-performance tool should, and includes free online storage.

The bad: Norton 360 doesn't support Firefox or Opera browsers; doesn't include wireless security tools, doesn't provide an ID vault for passwords or credit card info.

I can say that all the cons are the most important safety reason why i wanna use a good AV, ID password is very important sweat.gif

Nod32 is built with the target to have the lowest RAM usage in mind. Anyways, CHIP Germany and PC Gamer had tested Symantec/Norton AV and found it only lost to NOD32 in term of resources used.

I tried AVG and the Norton Internet Security 06 & 07, Norton Antivirus 06 & 07 and Norton 360 all work fine but the 06 programs had to be patched even some of the 07 ones had to be patched also but all the ones I used were trials and. But I prefer the AVG much faster and doesnt eat RAM.

wow both...

Using norton 360 firewall... the thing which i can't get it to work properly is the firewall. Have managed to open the ports for the file sharing in the norton 360 firewall BUT i'm unable to map any of my share folder from mine and my sis lappy. Need to turn that firewall of use windows firewall to protect my PC and at the sametime allow the file sharing to work...

Anybody having the same issue?

Didn't really experiment with antivirus software.... What I can say is I dislike Norton coz some virus that are quarantined by the software infects my PC when I used it last time (that's probably ages ago).... Also takes up a lot of resources in my PC... So decided not to have any antivirus installed in my PC... Any problem, just format... Been not using antivirus software for like 1 year... laugh.gif

i agree with not to like norton AV, but that doesnt make all AV is bad
its a very risky choice for u to choose not to install any AV on your system
firewall and AV is the 2 most important thing, even using them we still have a very big possibility to receive unwanted stuff specially when your system is connected to the internet 24/7

just my opinion laugh.gif

Hahaha... Just be careful where u surf on the internet lor... And make sure u don't download files that u might know that it contains spyware.... For me, it's fine not having antivirus... Just follow the 2 guidelines and that's it.... Of coz having antivirus is better but it slows down performance of ur PC.... I just use whatever software that is nescessary for my PC... laugh.gif

hai, i 'm new in vista and using NOD32 av and this av recommed by my friend.
Before my xp using kaspersky av, i feel that very good when i download or open web have virus av will inform me to take action.
And kaspersky av control very friendly and easy not like norton some communicate.
Talk about friendly control for av, AVG also control very user friendly. But it not very powerful for detection virus as kaspersky av.
Talk about speed affected, i'm really want to asks senior member which av will not be affected to the os speed and internet speed ???

Based on my personal experiences.

For free AV: Avira AntiVir. AVG is not bad either, but prefer AntiVir.

For paid AV: Kaspersky.

You can run your AV scan in the background and go on with your normal daily surfing/word processing/stuff (Not sure about gaming though) on Kaspersky... that's what I always do laugh.gif Doesn't lag or slow down anything and it's barely noticeable.

But internet is safe if you know what to open and not. Although I installed AV, only get virus one in 3 or 4 months. Mostly bcoz of warez.

I used Norton Antivirus 2007, Norton Internet Security 2007, AVG Antivirus and Kapersky Antivitus. All also quite good but still got a little bit of lag. The laggiest is Norton Internet Security 2007 and complicated to uninstall Symantec (Norton) products. Just my 2 cents.

vista nod32 user here, works fine most of the time. Sometimes likes to hang up and eat up a huge pool of resources before settling down...

i guess it's running scan in the background. It's noticeable because i use a slow laptop tongue.gif
