One Turkish soldier killed, five lightly wounded in clashes in Syria - military

user posted image

ANKARA: One Turkish soldier was killed and five more were lightly wounded in clashes with Islamic State militants in northern Syria, the Turkish military said on Friday.

In addition, four Turkey-backed rebels were also killed and 25 injured in the clashes over the last 24 hours, the military said in a statement.

On Thursday, three Turkish soldiers were killed in what the military said was a suspected Syrian air strike, the first such deaths at the hands of Syrian government forces since Ankara launched a cross-border incursion into Syria in August. Turkey said it would retaliate against the attacks.

New Generation Patrol Craft To Be Launched Next Month

Marhalim Abas November 25, 2016 Malaysia- MMEA

SHAH ALAM: The first of six New Generation Patrol Craft (NGPC) for the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) is expected to be launch next month. The keel for the first ship, built by Destini Bhd was laid on Nov. 20, last year at its facility at Port Klang.

Although the launch is on schedule, it must be noted that it will take at least another 12 months before the ship is commissioned into APMM. Perhaps APMM will be luckier in this regard compared to the senior service, RMN.

Anyhow, as Malaysian Defence had written various posts on the NGPC, please feel free to read them here HERE and Here.

To recap, the NGPC is a variant of the Fassmer 40M Coastal Patrol Vessel. It is to be armed with a SMASH RWS fitted with a 30mm gun from Aselsan and two 12.7mm machine guns. It will also come equipped with the Fulmar X mini-UAV from Thales for ISR duties. Six of the vessel is being built at the shipyard formerly owned by Destination Marine Services Sdn Bhd. Destination Marine was bought over by Destini in 2015 after it got the contract for the NGPC.

Destini will also be involved in the construction of the three 80-metre OPV program for APMM. It appears that TH Heavy was cognisant of the claims that it had no prior shipbuilding experience and therefore had entered a JV with Destini – the builder of the NGPC for the OPV program.
Last July when confirming it was in talks with APMM for the OPV program, it stated that the status of talks was in a flux.

Royal Navy’s hi-tech destroyer breaks down in NATO wargame, towed back to port

One of the Royal Navy’s cutting edge Type 45 destroyers had to be humiliatingly towed back to port just two days after setting off to take part in NATO exercises.

The HMS Duncan is believed to have suffered total propulsion failure, forcing it back into Plymouth harbor on Wednesday, according to the Telegraph.

The 4,500 ton hi-tech ship left Davenport naval base on Sunday to take part in naval exercises alongside Spanish, Portuguese and German warships.

The Plymouth Herald reports that the Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 berthed in Davenport last Friday, before taking part in the training exercises on Monday. The warships were due to set off for a European port after the wargames were completed.

The incident took place off the Devon coast as the HMS Duncan was taking part in maneuvers known as Flag Officer Sea Training.

Creating a buffer for themselves. Although they have hired out the footwork to rebels, Turkish Army still send tanks and probably air strike coordinators as support.

But this incursion is a Turkish only endeavor. US already back out their support because Turkish attacks their ally SDF as well that is providing foot soldiers against ISIS.

I've actually seen this mistake made by newsies more than once doh.gif its official designation is Type 45, somehow this becomes 4,500 tons I dunno why doh.gif it actually displaces around 9,000 plus metric tons... what would have been called cruisers not too long ago.

well fuck this gon be good. Type 45 engines are basically the Tiger tank engines of the Royal Navy - expensively custom built machines for which there are no spares and somewhat prone to failure, aggravated by long service in the Mid East for which apparently they were not designed to withstand doh.gif HMS Duncan is the AAW ship in charge of watching the Russian fleet so... this gon be good doh.gif

Not really tiger tank engine, just first war ship using new generation IEP (integration Electric Propulsion) system with use WR21 gas turbine (base from aircraft engine) + 2 diesel Engine. but main issue is the bad specially design Intake cooling & Exhaust system for WR21 gas turbine cause brake down/power loss in hot temperature. well like France/Italy/US/Japan/turkey warship also use Gas turbine engine in warship also no issue. warship using Gas turbine need very Expert design in intake/exhause/cooling system.

with IEP, the warship no need small diesel generator for electric anymore, all warship share power generation from main engine。all main engine use for power generation, and integration power system will supply power to electric motor to push propellers. so no more huge Gearbox, cost maintenance will be reduce, saving more space。

IEP will be future warship design, and some LHD, Frigate, destroyer start adopt this technology。

Custom design, cutting edge tech, few spares, easy break down, fighting in wrong climate... that's the similarities with Tiger tank laugh.gif

Incidentally however it does show the importance of NATO against Russia. A Russian destroyer break down (and it does happen!), they have to find their own internally. HMS Duncan breaks down, the Spanish Aegis destroyer Almirate Juan de Borbon is there to take its place. UK is only 1 of an alliance with at least 2 other strong nations (France, Germany) and a few others with plenty of punch to contribute (Italy, Spain, Norway)

iinm. last 2 month same class warship broke down on gulf hot waters. not one but six warships. now this  confused.gif

No recent break downs IINM. The recent debate was around the need to fix the "Gulf hot water" issue which was a problem back when UK was actively involved in Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan.

There was some hoo-ha because all six Type 45s happened to be in port a couple months ago, actually because of an overlap in timing when some ships were returning from deployment and some ships (HMS Duncan included) were about to be deployed.

Some parts of the UK press can be just as blind as media here... well, more actually since there's less control rolleyes.gif
