not sure about Malaysia but used a lot in China, even those pisang goreng kind of stalls can accept wechat payment in China, normally the procedure is :
> scan the seller barcode.
> key in payment amount.
> select bank and key in wechat payment password (need to set up and verify first for first use.)
> show seller ur phone to prove you pay correct amount.
> grab ur item.

competition is very fierce between alipay/wechat pay in China so a lot of chance these payment methods get 5~10% discount compare to cash.

not sure if wechat accept non-China bank or is there any hidden charge, if accept and no hidden charge, its worth to try it as cash alternative.

The Wallet appear after my friend send me RMB1 (Red Packet). But to claim the RMB1, you have to register either Debit/ Credit Card.

I register using my PBB CC but in order to withdraw the RMB1 have to register Debit Card. There is a pop-up message stating there is no charges involved for withdrawal up to RMB1K. After registered, my CC & Debit got charged RM0.22 & RM0.21.

For now, I not yet try to send, top-up or withdraw. I try to delete my Debit & Credit Card details but there's no option for me to do it. Maybe there's a bug since I google that most of it has the option to do it.

The in-app is in China region, dont know why didnt appear any in-app usage for Malaysia region. Refer my screenshot.

For anyone who doesn't have it there are two simple way to get it:

1- Get someone to send you angpao, once you open the red packet your wallet will show up in your profile tab.
(you still need to register your card before you can do anything with your wallet points)


2- Just go to your profile tab, see that magnifier glass icon? simply search for wallet and you'll have that option added.
(still, you need to register your card before you can do anything with the wallet)

By the way, this URL shows which bank are supported by WeChat for wallet.

I can confirm this. +1 been to Beijing, wechat pay is widely use in China, even roadside selling tofu also gt barcode for you to scan. Heck even buying fruits also cn scan. How convenient! They even give ang paus in wechat !

during the early period when wehat pay is launch, I can use it with my maybank/cimb debit card lol.

but later then they remove it already, make it only for china bank lol...

not sure need wait how long more for them to implement it back for global customer.

I tried using maybank visa just now. It worked.You need to call the card customer service to inform them first about the wechat transaction because they will charge a small amount to your card to first validate it

Don't waste your time registering for it yet. Currently only for China credit/debit card. You will be able to verify your account with your non China bank card but won't be able to perform any top up. What's the use then?

For malaysian, you need have someone send you angpao money and you need accept and verify your account then you only can see the wallet menu in your wechat.

Since last year, China need triple identification. And most likely it will be:

1. Email
2. Phone
3. Credit Card

Before you can spend more than RMB1K.

So unless you can provide any other form to verify your identity, I think no.

I don't know what do you mean by Cancel. As long as you have no money inside and is not link to your Credit Card, it shouldn't have any problem.

If you have money inside, I really don't know how you can withdraw in Malaysia. Maybe can try BOC or ICBC.

You can add your card but can't use at all. However my cousin found a way to load money through QQ.

My wechat is registered with a local Maxis number, If i already have a wallet with money, i shall able to buy stuffs from roadside vender, but what about train / Domestic air ticket purchase, do we need to tie with a China Mobile number. Can we Change or add another China number to the same wechat accounts in this case?

You can try. Kinda forget liao cause tried once only.

Create a QQ account. Login and get your account number.

Open wechat. Add Wallet, add your card. Then at the wallet there open QQ coins. Select the amount you want to buy.

Then load the game. Goto reload page, click the amount you want to buy. Use qq coins.

Wechat and QQ are two different apps, though they are from the same company.
QQ coins are not as widely used as wechat pay.

I guess the only way to load money into wechat wallet is through getting red packets.
Otherwise we will have to go China to get all the stuff done i.e. getting a Chinese hp number and applying a Chinese bank account with its ATM card.
