QUOTE(Acid_RuleZz @ Jan 10 2019, 11:29 AM) Agree on this one. I came across article by gamers nexus stating that 8GB HBM2 cost about USD150 (excluding the interposer). I wonder if 8GB is shaved off, can the price be around USD549-599? ~RM2248-RM2453, after tax and markup probably RM2699? Kinda sucks for us gamers though, 16GB is a huge waste in games. |

AMD doesn't make more profits as Nvidia did. 7nm tech is more expensive than 12nm. GCN architecture is not gaming friendly. Hope the incom Navi which will be more competitive than the aging GCN. I wont put my money on Navi until i see real world performance. GCN could be a gaming friendly arch but AMD simply didn't have enough budget to do it like Nvidia did. |

QUOTE(Acid_RuleZz @ Jan 10 2019, 11:39 AM) if the program does not use the gpu frame buffer, nope, vram mostly utilized by game, larger texture/AA require more vram, also DXVA accelerated 4K h265 does use 4GB of vram, you can at least play 3 4K of h265 video without choking the system to death, with Radeon VII |

So Radeon VII spec is similar to Radeon Instinct MI50, that explain 16GB VRAM on that.

The VII gaming performance gained against 2080 is very little. However, on the productivity(against V64, why no nvidia products?) performance is more impressive than gaming.I wont put my money on Navi until i see real world performance. QUOTE(S4PH @ Jan 11 2019, 09:01 AM) i totally agree, amd just dont have anything to compete with nvidia at the moment. Nvidia is also betting on RTX tech. 16gb HBM is insane totally not needed. Many speculated they add a display output on Radeon Instinct Mi50 and rebrand it as Radeon VII.Big ass Radeon VII DIE shot render. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « This post has been edited by Acid_RuleZz: Jan 11 2019, 02:28 PM |
