They could've make it 8GB and lower the price imo.
*
Agree on this one. I came across article by gamers nexus stating that 8GB HBM2 cost about USD150 (excluding the interposer).

I wonder if 8GB is shaved off, can the price be around USD549-599?
~RM2248-RM2453, after tax and markup probably RM2699? Kinda sucks for us gamers though, 16GB is a huge waste in games.

The highest GPU thumbup.gif
How much you got it for?
*
I got it for RM5,300.
The Gigabyte 6800xt is RM4,500.
Then I was like, ah fuck it, let's do this.
I know it actually ain't worth the 17% price hike but damn the pricing for the 6800xt.
I need find a good monitor now, still stuck with my 4 years old LG ultrawide.

Thanks thanks biggrin.gif
Initially wanted to get the 6800xt but because of the crappy price, forces me to take the 6900xt instead. Haven't got the chance to try it yet.

Where did you get a 6900xt at such a good price?
*
I bought from Techview. Being a long time and non-fussy customer of theirs, so they kinda allow me to buy just the card itself (i think the MSRP is 5399?). biggrin.gif

QUOTE(S4PH @ Feb 9 2021, 01:32 PM)
yeah prices are now crappy, i bought my 6800xt for 3999.
*
yeah man. I was offered the Gigabyte 6800xt OC for Rm4500. I was like, fuck it, just go high end.

QUOTE(Jedi @ Feb 9 2021, 01:34 PM)
what a bad decision to get RDNA2, with crap DLSS and RTX performances to play AAA games for the next 3 years. But then, congrats on the new toy.
*
Undeniably, RTX3080 is a better choice here.
I recommend Nvidia to all my friends (the only exception is polaris because they're damn good value) but I buy AMD card myself.
Why? I hate Nvidia for all their crappy business practice.
Yeah, AMD is no saint but I choose to support the underdog here.
When AMD gave us Fiji (fail), Vega (double fail), 5700xt (black screen), I rather just wait because those are crap.
I was close to pick up a RTX3080 until the whole Hardware Unboxed fiasco happened.

Damn. Congrats! How's it handling?

I upgraded from a RX580 and the experience is NIGHT and DAY biggrin.gif
Too bad its being bottlenecked heavily by the 6600k which is kind of a bummer.
Still waiting for the 5900x to come back in stock.
I also need to upgrade my PSU (currently having the RM750i), the power spike trips the PSU.
Took me a while to source a HX1000, it's out of stock everywhere.

Kind of a bad time to buy PC sad.gif

No point in supporting either megacorps, my personal mantra is just get whatever gives the best value to me as an end-consumer cause they're all money hungry leeches at the end of the day.
Not willing to beta-test AMD's first-gen raytracing card, especially with the lack of DLSS alternative.
When AMD gains market share rest assured they will do the same shit Intel and Nvidia are putting customers through (kind of already are with the price hike on Zen 3 and lack of acknowledgement about stock issues during CES2021).

Anyway, congrats on your 6900XT. Was previously using the AMD FineWine technology with R9 280X for more than 5 years tongue.gif

Totally agree with ya man. I started my first build with R9 390 which is on par with gtx970 with slightly lower price.
After that, things were kinda rough ride.
Nvidia launched Pascal a year later but I didn't need to upgrade.
AMD launched Fiji which doesn't even worth looking at.
Turing and Vega are both bad upgrades especially with the extreme price hike (Thanks to Nvidia and AMD just ride along with it)
So I didn't go with either.
Then comes RDNA2 and Ampere. I went with RDNA2 to give AMD a good fighting chance. Besides, I've been happy with R9 390 and RX580 throughout the years.

With 5900x out of stock everywhere now I'm seriously considering 10900k being slightly cheaper but with 2 lesser cores.
Kinda sucks that my 6600k SEVERELY bottlenecks the 6900xt.
First world problem.

I wonder who would buy though.
Pretty sure the miner wouldn't even buy into that I think.

Honestly, if gaming if your only concern, I would just go with Intel at this point. AMD stock is unlikely to get better anytime soon (probably expect this to drag onto at least Q3 '21), and Intel 10th gen performance is pretty good given the price difference and availability. However, I'd just wait for 11th gen if that's your move, might have something worth buying although rumours are 11th gen is nothing big in terms of improvements.

I also personally bought a 3600 to go with my 3080, as a stop-gap before Zen3 prices normalise or non-X CPUs release.. jokes on me cause I should've just bought Intel right off the bat lol
Only idiots (whether mining idiots or gaming idiots idk) would buy at that price, one year ago you could've built a RX580 system for that price alone

For the CPU, unfortunately I need more cores for my daily routine (both work and personal tasks). I'm basically running everything at 1 single rig.
Multiple browsers (and tabs) and huge excel files for work. Decrypting work stuff. Plex server. Gaming etc. My 6600k is getting exhausted at this point. That's why I'm very keen on the 5900x with its 12C/24T but I guess I can wait, already on the waiting list from Techview but let's see. I'm kinda debating if I should go for 5950x instead biggrin.gif but that's extra RM1K there.

And rocket lake looks very very very compelling. I kinda wonder when will it launch though.

And the rx580 though. Dafuq are these ppl thinking. It takes 4-5 months to get your money if you're mining, reasonable enough ONLY IF the price is stable. For gaming... C'mon...

Edit : OK. Just read about Rocket lake again.. tops out at 8 cores and 14nm. That's sad.
