So today, I received the rejection email from SLB, I didnt make it to the next stage of interview. I am very devastated now, but what to do. To those who are goin for the interview, prepare yourself. Never underestimate the rest of applicants. I should move on to other company now. :')

@monsh

I do not understand this question... tongue.gif
I got 5 round interview and test totally.
1st round: We will have 3 minutes for each candidate to introduce themself. After that, the recruiting manager (RM) will announce the result. In this round, there are 6 candidates who were fail in totally 38 candidates.

2nd round: they divide into 3 groups with 8person/group. in this round, we will play game with the topic is: Build a Hotel is at least 1.1m in height and can allow 8 golf balls put at the top of Hotel. After that, the RM will ask each candidate,ex: what is your real work in your team? who is your leader? why do you choose him/her? If you are leader and I ask you to recuse 1 or 2 person in your group who will be recused? how height is your Hotel? give exactly the number of height without using ruler and explain how can you measure?......Finally, RM will announce a half of candidate list for 3rd round.

3rd round: face to face interview, the question is not difficult, just ask about your life, your study, your family and your activities....If you have many activities, you should show them what you have and please heart - to heart talking  thumbup.gif  whistling.gif . After finish 3rd round, some will be called to interview with segment manager, some will be back home. But nobody know when they are called. In my case, when I came back home and I recieved a call from SLB to come back company to interview with segment manager (round 4). They proposed me to wireline segment and I interviewed with manager. The questions are also not difficult.

When I stayed at home, I got a call from SLB again (around 8:30pm) and RM announced that I had 1 night to arrange everything to prepare for 1 week exposure at Vung Tau base.... sweat.gif  rclxm9.gif
During 1 week, I had to learn as much as possible but I were not allowed to do everything because I had not learned Sefety yet. After finished Field exposure, I had to present what I learned in 1 week, there are many questions from FSM, FE/FS... cry.gif .and T finished round 5.

After 1 week, SLB called me again for health check and vaccinations. If your health is good, I think you are 99% to be SLB's employee.
Depend on your segment, Manager will show you the scope of job and everything about your job, your life in SLB.

Regards

It was a phone interview and video conference with the person in charge in Singapore. I believe that nothing beats one on one live interview.
Phone interview does no justice to true applicants skills. attention are limited and often that the interviewer cuts off mid sentence. my bad maybe.
But IF YOU ARE GIVEN A CHANCE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN PHONE INTERVIEW OR LIVE INTERVIEW, CHOOSE THE LATTER. Ive learned my lesson, I am willing to travel to singapore for the live interview if I could turn back time. Anyway, Good luck to everyone pursuing your career in SLB. I have a year buffer period until I can re-apply for the position again. rclxms.gif rclxms.gif wish us luck.

For people who planning to apply, they only hire people with Engineering background, even for the non-technical business consultant role. (which pays the highest)

Reason is that, they pride themselves being experts in the O&G industry, hence not looking to hire anyone without engineering background for their consulting line.

I agree with you, they did warn me that the career path that I am choosing would be different from the engineering graduates if I proceed with SBC. Through out the hiring process I can see that they really want the best for their team, I failed to edge the rest of applicants out.
They hardly hire fresh grad for consultant role. You need to have experience before you can provide solution, consultancy and advice to people in this field. All in all, it was a great session, I will try again next time when I afford to offer my expertise to SBC.
best of luck to everyone.

P/S: and the hiring process for SBC is officially close as what my Personnel Representative informed me in the email.

Yes you're right with the point of graduates being consultants, that's the concern arising for many management consulting firm nowadays. That is why they tend to target top UK/USA Uni with excellent results for their SBC role, the same goes with management consulting firms such as McKinsey, Bain, BCG. As of 2012, I know 3 people from Imperial College hired for the SBC role.

UTP is not considered as one of the excellent uni ke? lol. just throwing a rhetorical question.
They did mention that SBC hiring process takes longer than usual as they have to scheme through candidates in a global scale, so basically you are fighting against some top students from IFP school in Paris and La Salle too.

Seems like you are knowledgeable on this Oil n Gas consultancy topic, so I feel that you can help me with this one.
This weekend I have scheduled an interview with KPMG. and how do I convince them that as a fresh graduate I can be their Oil and Gas consultant?
I am very well aware that I do not have the experience before but I want to be a consultant cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

Haha actually I am not knowledgeable in O&G, I am basically aiming for general management consultancy roles hence have some knowledge in that field. I was one of the those people who applied SBC without having an Engineering background (I did a degree in Maths and masters in Finance). Yea straight rejection without any phone interviews, I only found out about them hiring only Engineers from my friend in Imperial because of their culture/job scope.

What role is it u're interviewing with KPMG? If it's advisory, better hold on to this opportunity, as far as I know they only hire experienced applicants normally. I interviewed for their Audit role 2 weeks ago, it was more like a casual conversation more than an interview, had a general short interview with the HR, then they will bring u to meet the partner, partners from both Tax and Audit who interviewed me were both really nice people.

That is not entirely true. The SBC girl that I spoke to in a career fair has a BSc in Accounting and Finance; so I guess it's not all engineering

Hmm, perhaps she had years of experience in an O&G company before joining SLB? Or I might be wrong then.
