if I may ask...aside the 1.50 firmware, what was the next custom firmware that allowed homebrew games? Just for info...
Now lastest custom firmware is 3.52 M33Technical Sony PlayStation Portable for Beginners, General PSP Q&A and Homebrew Discussion

sorry, I don't understand. If homebrew games need UMD, what's the difference compared to getting the original game itself?

QUOTE(akachester @ Aug 17 2007, 08:55 AM) Ok. To simplify things (this is based on my knowledge).. I guess there's a need to distinguish between homebrew games and your legally backed-up games. Some custom firmware, mostly those older ones, requires UMD to play homebrew games. However, not it is not compulsory for you to use the exact UMD of the game you wanted to play in order to run the game. Meaning, you can use any UMD (as long as you have one), to play any homebrew game that you wanted. Hope this clear things up a little for you. In newer custom firmware (like 3.51 M33 and 3.52 M33), it is already not neccessary for you to have a UMD in order to play homebrew games. Thus, UMD is not required already.. For homebrew games, as long as your PSP can support homebrew (V1.50 or custom firmwares), then there's no need of a UMD whatsoever. For your legally backed-up games, yes, some older custom firmwares or firmware emulators need a UMD to run inside to load your legally backed-up game inside your MSPD. I hope you can see the line between homebrew games and your legally backed-up games. |

Thanks for the explanation there. As i said earlier (or it is on another thread), i do not know how to differentiate between both type. I do not want to cross the line to discuss about pirated games though.Sorry if i mention about pirated games there... |

I think almost any shop that sells modded PSP can do the upgrade for you. I just got my new one yesterday and they modded it on the spot. Got mine from Bernard's shop at City Bazaar - Gamer's Solution
