I am interested in getting one PSP. I got noob questions here,

1. is it hard to get the 1.50 firmware PSP nowadays, do the v1.50 PSP more expensive in 2nd hand market?

2. when upgrade to V3.52, can it be downgraded to 1.50? If not, how to run homebrew on 3.50?

3. V3.52 M33 firmware, is it 2 firmwares combine? How to switch from one firmware to another?

4. I think some later games wont support V1.50 anymore, am I right? But then if have to use 3.50, then we wont able to run home brew is it?

5. Can we load games from MSPD itself?

6. How much is one spare battery for PSP (the big one, not slim edition)

7. How is the audio quality when listening to mp3 and wma song? Can we use homebrew software to listen mp3?

added 8. Can we play .avi xvid/divx directly without conversion on PSP? The resolution let say 640*480, do we need to resize to be playable on PSP?

added 9. What so special about PSP slim, apart from longer batt life and smaller? blink.gif

its my question thus far, this is my first time into PSP since I want a portable entertainment device aside from PC biggrin.gif

any PSP you buy,as long as it's firmware is below 3.50,you can downgrade it,and upgrade to custom firmware

*
dont have to bother with 1.50 anymore.
just go to any normal shop, they'd probably have the psp in custom firmware already.

2. when upgrade to V3.52, can it be downgraded to 1.50? If not, how to run homebrew on 3.50?

AFAIK,3.52 does NOT have a downgrader yet.-im not sure about using pandora's battery,though huh.gif

QUOTE(revolution2008 @ Sep 2 2007, 12:13 PM)
3. V3.52 M33 firmware, is it 2 firmwares combine? How to switch from one firmware to another?
*
no,no..
3.52 is the version of the firmware.
M33 is the group that made that firmware(well, cracked,if you prefer that term tongue.gif )

4. I think some later games wont support V1.50 anymore, am I right? But then if have to use 3.50, then we wont able to run home brew is it?
*
many games no longer support 1.50.
and to play them you have to upgrade your firmware.
just upgrade to 3.52 M33 and you're good to go.

do NOT use sony's official 3.52,or else you cant use homebrew on it.

QUOTE(revolution2008 @ Sep 2 2007, 12:13 PM)
5. Can we load games from MSPD itself?
*
using custom firmware, you can load up your backups from the mspd.
personally,i find it a lot easier than bringing a bag of UMDs wherever you go laugh.gif doh.gif

6. How much is one spare battery for PSP (the big one, not slim edition)

ori is 100+
compatible is RM50-60

7. How is the audio quality when listening to mp3 and wma song? Can we use homebrew software to listen mp3?
*
it's OK.
but the volume is very soft.
you'd best buy some earphones or something.

you dont need homebrew apps to play mp3-it's built in.
but you can use homebrew if you wish.
also, there are homebrew apps that allow OGG to be used thumbup.gif OGG>MP3 rclxs0.gif

Let me try to answer the q's....anyway you should be looking at the FAQ's first before asking these q's...

QUOTE(revolution2008 @ Sep 2 2007, 12:13 PM)
I am interested in getting one PSP. I got noob questions here,

1. is it hard to get the 1.50 firmware PSP nowadays, do the v1.50 PSP more expensive in 2nd hand market?

No it's not and should not be more expensive since all the PSP (except the new PSP Slim) can be downgraded to 1.5. If a shop said that version 1.5 is more expensive...you are being con...go to other shop...and to add, no need to get a PSP with a version 1.5 firmware as a version M33 3.52 custom firmware is a much better choice

2. when upgrade to V3.52, can it be downgraded to 1.50? If not, how to run homebrew on 3.50?

If you used the official 3.52, then you can downgrade using the new Pandora's Battery method. you can read it up here. On downgrading official 3.50 firmware...you can use the Hen Downgrader also by team Noobz here.

3. V3.52 M33 firmware, is it 2 firmwares combine? How to switch from one firmware to another?

Basicall yes...but to be more simple it's a custom firmware by team M33. Custom firmware works by combining the files of version 1.50 and version 3.52 official update files. It give the best of both worlds...the homebrew friendly feature of version 1.5 and the later normal feature of official version 3.52 from Sony.

You don't really need to switch anything coz it works like a 2 in 1 shampoo.  biggrin.gif

4. I think some later games wont support V1.50 anymore, am I right? But then if have to use 3.50, then we wont able to run home brew is it?

yes, later games required the PSP to be installed with the latest firmware. Yes, if you upgrade to the latest official firmware, you won't be able to run homebrew...but nowadays you can just buy a PSP with custom firmware M33 3.52 pre-installed. so no worries.

5. Can we load games from MSPD itself?

Have to be careful here (strictly no piracy talk), On custom firmware only, Yes. If you'd want to backup you own UMD games so you can play it off the MSPD on custom firmware (M33 3.52)...yes you can.

And if you have a PS3, on official firmware, you can transfer PS1 games from the PS3 to the PSP. But only the purchased games from PSN stores and not the disc based ones.

6. How much is one spare battery for PSP (the big one, not slim edition)?

This questions you can ask thee various game shops or even Sony Style.... Try Bernards shop. He has a thread in ConsolesCouch section. Shop's name, Gamers Solution.

7. How is the audio quality when listening to mp3 and wma song? Can we use homebrew software to listen mp3?

First, no need to use homebrew to play MP3 or WMA. Audio quality wise, It's good enough for me but I have to buy a RM 150 in-ear phones to be able to enjoy the great sound quality.

added 8. Can we play .avi xvid/divx directly without conversion on PSP? The resolution let say 640*480, do we need to resize to be playable on PSP?

Direct answer, no, you can't directly play *.avi files on a PSP. it has to be coverted and resized. PSP support up to 720x480 resolution.

added 9. What so special about PSP slim, apart from  longer batt life and smaller? blink.gif

You can get the latest review of the new PSP Slim if you were to read it up in the games website...most of the people here have never hold and play it yet...and this question has been asked for so many times...please read through the forums/threads. and you can get more info at those games website rather than here...pics too!!! so please... shakehead.gif

and lastly, google's your friend so ask them.

its my question thus far, this is my first time into PSP since I want a portable entertainment device aside from PC biggrin.gif

Virus...? What kind of virus...? What'd it do?

*edited*

Are you talking about the one that bricks your PSP?
Hmm, I bet this so-called virus is made by Sony.

Anyway, you'll only get infected if you CHOOSE to install the program. So, as long as you don't choose to install, you're safe. It's not a virus (as it doesn't spread around) nor a trojan (nobody is going to access/hack into your PSP), it's only a program (a homebrew) which disables your PSP.

If you mean those Walkman phones by SE, well, to be honest, they are wayyy better than the sound reproduction on the PSP. Its too soft when you are on a noisy environment. Lack of bass as well IF you are using the built in speaker. However, using headphone wise, its still produces good sound..

The PSP external speakers sound quality are one of the worst ever period, if you are in a noisy crowd don't even bother listening. The best remedy so far are only good headphones/earphones or add on attachment speakers.

As far as I know there are no "virus" for the PSP since the PSP its self don't utilize any specific OS (Operating System). A virus in most cases is a rogue "program" written for a specific OS. However in the PSP case it operate on firmware which as a whole is the XMB, worst that people can do is to place a Trojan program on your PSP and execute it without or with your knowledge about it which pretty much corrupts your PSP firmware and get you a brick. tongue.gif However all these is pretty pointless as the existence of custom firmware and the "Crown Jewel" of the PSP homebrew the "Pandora's Battery" render bricking totally useless.

Well, i use my own SHE9500 in-ear headphone and the quality is acceptable by me. Still produces good sound quality but with a slight lack of bass to be honest.

thx monster hunter G..
i'm tired of explaining to them.. haha... virus is meant for a specific type of operating system. a computer virus meant for windows platform cant run in your mobile phone, cant run in your psp, cant run in linux and whatsoever..

for easy understanding.. let say u copy your .exe file from your computer.. to your mobile phone or your psp or anything.. u cant run that file because it is made to run in windows environment.

Hehe... just make sure you don't download from untrusted sites. The only sites I trust are pspupdates.qj.net, maxconsole.net and evolvexmb.com which is now known as consolespot.net/index.php?network=xmb
