You can try this one if you use Hikvision network camera.
http://www1.hikvision.com/cn/prgs_1021_i13179.html

It has minimum illumination of 0.002 Lux

Other than lux, what else need to look for night vision quality?

Correct Sir, my friend's Synology came with 2 license only, I'm replacing total 8 camera for my Dad and now learning on CCTV related info.

I'm not sure about this Samba but there's a USB port for sure, if my understanding is correct, I should be able to use a External HD connected to the router as storage to the playback files, once cameras are set up. Of course I'm still too new to setting anything up.

Guess i'll start reading on hikvision and NVR software/decoder to see what I can do.

Question, NVR software is a third party software or comes with hikvision? and NVR decoder, I assume it's a black box that all the camera connects to? and NVR software, if installed to PC, means my PC has to be on 24/7 to have the IPcamera working/storing playbacks?
Thanks.
*
There's 3rd party ones like blueiris and the ones from manufacturer like hikvision/dahua

Yep, that's the decoder

Yep, online 24/7 which is why people opt for nvr since it uses less power compared to pc.
Unless you're using one of those low power pc like the nuc.
You can also try using raspberry pi as nvr with zoneminder/motion eye

I couldn't figure out how to use the Asus DNS so I go ahead to create my own DNS account through
rclxms.gif

So far, with the two cameras wirelessly connected to the router isn't really stable when the whole the whole family is using the internet during the peak hours. There were some missing footage due to it. However, during odd hours when I am outside the house, it's alright because it streams smoothly through the IVMS 4500 app on my iPhone.

Now, contemplating to get another few more cameras using PoE setup instead. Wiring will be a problem next. LOL! Did you DIY your house? Any recommendations for cat5e cables? Does it need to be insulated? exposed? non exposed?

Planning to get a 3MP cam that has H265 compression, but I am not sure whether the NVR DS-7108N is able to support it or not.
*
Well there is the waterproof connector that's included the camera for poe cables.
Using cat6 cables I got from taobao, definitely cheaper to buy longer cables there.

Better to get nvr that properly supports >4mp and above resolution like these ones

DS-7808N-K2
https://world.taobao.com/item/541903045729....6601.244.gBX9He

https://world.taobao.com/item/535606212602....6601.362.PAEIV3

I tried adding 4mp before to my ds 7108sn but it only detects sd resolution.

DS-2CD2145F-IS
https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a312a...._u=h2avq0doc74b

From what I've read in ipcamtalk, someone suggested that i need to change the video profile, and voila nvr detects 720p/1080p.

https://ipcamtalk.com/threads/low-resolutio...cd3345-i.12291/

However, I was unable to view substream in SD, both main/substream was in full hd.
So unless you have powerful connection like time 100mbps upload speed, you won't be able to view the stream smoothly unless you set the bitrate lower.

Now there's been other feedback that said upgrading firmware fixes that, but I won't be doing since mine is multilanguage that would revert back to chinese fimrware once upgraded laugh.gif

Take a read in Wiki, or any other website.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category_5_ca...y.C2.A05_vs._5e

Me too have purchased Cat6 (Cat6a) cable from Taobao, definitely cheaper than getting it in Malaysia.
I bought from this seller:
https://world.taobao.com/item/40197923536.htm

Here are some pictures of my Cat6 cable purchase:
[attachmentid=8416112] [attachmentid=8416113] [attachmentid=8416115]
If you want higher resolution support with H.265, you can get DS-7808N-K2/8P NVR.
I purchased this DS-7808N-K2/8P NVR for my home use.
Price of DS-7808N-K2/8P will be more expensive than the one you have, but I am not sure if the NVR has English language version.

Which length did you get and how much did it weigh?

Yup agreed that wired connection is the safest bet.

Are there different grades of Cat5 cables?
Can share what type of Cat6 cables are you using?

Danggg... Means I have to update my DS 7108SN too if i want to use a 3MP and more camera, H265 doesn't seem to be supported as well. Tempted to get one of those. Maybe I have to garage sale my NVR to get a upgraded one.
*
Any cat6 cable will do, as long it's connected to the poe adapter

Forgot to mention, you can still change to h264 in the settings.

I was referring to the types of cable. From the link you sent me, it seems to be a cat6 double insulated cable. Fuyooh looks damn solid.

Yup DS-7808N-K2/8P is selling about CNY800 whereas the DS7108 is about CNY380, which is about two times. Damn.. feel so poisoned to get that one now. Any takers out there for my DS7108SN?
If I get the DS7808 suggested alexandar3133, one cat6 cable connect to poe camera should be good to gao tim.

And to change from h265 to h264, sayang laa like that. hahaha..
*
If you want to save some money, you could get the model without poe ports and just get separate poe adapter.
I think so far advantage with h265 is that they consume less space for the same video quality if encoded with h264

I might get one from ezbuy prime, definitely save more on shipping

I use Taobao direct shipping for this item, and paid only RMB 32 for this, which is 1KG shipping price, I don't know why but this happened.
You can first check how the Taobao direct ship quote the shipping price to you, and then compare to EZbuy prime price, and get one with cheapest total cost.

My cart keeps default to cargo so I totally forgot about that
Now I just need to learn how to connect the rj45 plugs since I only bought normal cables before laugh.gif

For 4 wire LAN cable, is this good enough to transmit power when connected POE ports/adapter?

Attached Image

Or needs 8 wire LAN cable?

I just received my cat 6a cable last week and connect Camera and NVR through poe, no issue. the cable i bought got 8 wires only though. But yours the picture below got like 10 wires in them. What are those for?!

https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a312a...._u=221qoqco1289
*
I'm not sure about those 2 extra wires, just some random snapshot i took from product page

Just checked my poe adapter cables and apparently only has 4 wires inside. Guess it's more than enough

Btw, for the hikvision camera you're using with chinese firmware. Are the days displayed also in chinese, or do you just enable display for date? Was your nvr multilanguage or chinese only, forgot already ar

I tried too and no matter how, does not have TGDS option.
Looks like they found out and took away TGDS for this item, no more cheap shipping fee  bye.gif
No choice but to looks for alternative, get from other seller or use EZbuy prime on item similar to this.

I think they started today disabling from TGDS because yesterday I was still able to checkout items to estimate the shipping price sad.gif
Guess I'll have to go with ezbuy prime
This one seems to be cheapest so far

How does a poe adapter cable look like?

The hikvision cameras are chinese firmware. NVR is multi-language. The dates are all displayed in chinese.

I just bought 6 more Hikvision cameras. Going to DIY wire up my house soon and connect them. I hope the NVR is able to power all 8 cameras at once though. Was thinking of upgrading to k2/8p version.

Luckily I just bought the cables through TGDS last week . 100M of it. Seems quite heavy.

Like this one

Which models you got for 6 more units?

Btw, how's detection so far for motion detection?
Do you use email notification with pictures/ivms app or both?

I got three types, 2 each.
- 3MP
- 2MP
- 2MP with audio

I've never used motion detection before so I cannot comment. You tried?
*
Setting it up with motion detection is pretty easy, and it sends alert to ivms app. I just can't seem to get email alerts working properly, might have to do something with DS 7108 firmware.
Also for your DS 7108 POE model, do you still need router to provide IP address? Or just use crossover cable for if you're setting up CCTV without router?

Hi, i am planning to install cctv for my new house but i have no knowledge on this.
May i know how you all install the cctv? DIY or ask the seller install for you?
If i ask my electrician to place the Cat6 cable first then only ask the CCTV seller help me install, will it cause any issue and will it cost cheaper? Thank you.
*
Setting up your cameras with decoder is not that difficult.
Just the wiring that can be a bit tedious since you need to run the cables thru the ceilings and across different rooms.

As far as I know, the NVR is the one providing IP address for the cameras. I set all the cams on DHCP mode. So I guess the NVR is the one that assigns the IP address for the cameras. The NVR is connected to wireless router using straight thru cable only. I never set any crossover cable. How's your setup like?

See my setup as below:

[attachmentid=8574199]
*
My setup similar to yours
I'm curious to see if your nvr can still detect those ip cameras without a router in the setup
Can't really test it myself since I don't have nvr with poe ports (i have separate poe adapters)

Yes, the NVR definitely can connect to those IP cameras without a router. I think the NVR itself is a network switch +recording capabilities + POE. So 1 cable connect straight to NVR for power and data. But with this setup I am not able to access to full camera settings (i.e. WDR) via the NVR. I have to either plug them back into the router to change these WDR settings. or another way is to connect the nvr back to nvr port and router to nvr port.  Is your camera not being able to be detected by the NVR?
*
I'll be testing that once I get home.
It's just that i read how you need one of those cross cable lan if you wanna use without router (didn't really mention it was POE NVR or not)

you can diy.Long run cheaper and easy maintenance by yourself.
-for a start get a hikvision 3mp poe for usd70-75 each.(purchase from aliexpress or ebay)
-cat6 lan cable.
-a 2 disk synology nas comes with 2 licences(very good surveillance software, motion detection by email,
DS cam-apps for android and ios-live stream
-maybe a 8 port gigabit switch for future cameras expansion.
I do all my own setup.
*
Synology that good?
License fee is just too expensive for each camera (rm240)
Have you tried other alternatives like kerbio, motion eye, zoneminder?
You mean normal gigabit switch or poe gigabit switch?
