If the terminal support magnetic swipe, theoretically it should support Samsung Pay. |

Magnetic?....we have migrated away from magnetic strip to chip a long time ago...only the great us of a still use magnetic strip information storage....It's based on nfc... which is a non proprietary standard....but the system is based on phone signature, hence limited phone models that will work.... It can be open, not restricting phone model/made, as long as nfc enabled.... just like keyless entry in some hotels nowadays....use your phone as key to open your hotel door.... |

Yes, I think most cards in Malaysia are chip based. But I think some terminal might still support magnetic swipe. Countries like USA still mainly use magnetic swipe. (Unbelievable, right?) So, some shops might still use them so that they can support foreign customer. It's based on nfc... which is a non proprietary standard....but the system is based on phone signature, hence limited phone models that will work.... Since Samsung Pay is a proprietary payment format, I guess that they can limit to whatever model they want (and maybe hardware dependent). Android Pay should support more devices (as long as the device is using Android 4.4 and support NFC) This post has been edited by HMMaster: Oct 14 2016, 02:15 PM |

Malaysia is 100% chip compliant for many years.... however, as long as there are countries that use magnetic strip storage, cards will still come with dual mode storage....
Some localised cards like ATM or restricted debit cards in some countries already are mono storage....they come sans strip.... |

QUOTE(limeuu @ Oct 14 2016, 02:47 PM) Not the same.... But this is from Maybank who promote Samsung pay. Maybank pay only for maybank issued visa cards....using visa wave terminals.... Samsung pay can capture any card and also loyalty cards.... Ideally Maybank will restrict to its own visa paywave card. |
