Added on November 19, 2009, 8:12 pmit is not avaisable to use 7" motorized monitor as it had bad reputation on mechanism fault, unless you are looking for a better quality like xenarc!

i used 7" monitor and embed into my dashboard. you can have a look in my cardomain profile...

Will the hard disk last considering the vibration from pothole and extreme heat in the afternoon?

Car PC is not a hard thing to build.
I built one and its running XP OS with motorised 7" screen.
Built in Rodio, TV, Cameras input, Ext Audio in and a build in 25Wx4 power amp.
On top of these, GPS, play MP3 & Movie, internet broadband, touch screen, bluetooth, wifi..... oh karaoke for sure.
It is more than an inflight entertainment system.
Of course very costly...!

^Just I don't like on car PC is heat generations. Other than that it will be good. But I will need a sound proccessor like Bit1 or H701.

so far my car pc if located in the car had not heat problem except in the boot... but it had been solved after installing 2 fans. Vibration is not a problem since the HDD can accept more than 3G vibration! My setup so far so good, im happy with it! the cost of Car PC actually is cheaper than branded Double din (which almost had the same function).. it is a good investment if you love ICE.. coz it can be upgrade anytime as u like with a minimal cost (after u have the base unit) if u r not into IT gadget, then i would suggest u to stick with head unit!

Cheers

^Yup, agree with you. But I at the same time love IT gadgets too, but never think of getting 1 in car setup. Too many limitations I would say. My problem cannot install such setup is :
1. I don't watch movies while driving
2. My woofer enclosure is too big
3. I need ventilate my amps
4. I like to fine tune my system while driving

But 1 thing I not agree with you is the price. It is not cheaper, it is way cheaper.... Car PC is not only watching movies(format support is more than what branded DD offered as long as the proper video player installed), it got GPS and even better still, play games. 1 Alpine DD is rm3++++ to 4+++ if add GPS it may cost rm6+++ at the end.

haha seems that u have obsessed with fine tune while driving! it had affected me too but now using centrafuse with some plugin allow me to do fine tune too while driving.

you are a truly understanding person! as i say cheaper coz i believe someone will compare with BRANDED china brand later hahahahaha..

if you r lookin for 7" touchscreen monitor i had 1new unit which i bought another one better than that (high res 1080 pix). Im goin to let go at RM600 if anyone interested.

For me, SQ is a very subjective manner to discuss about, you have your own expectations, I got mine. The main objective on having a sound system is the system able to reproduce what data the source has. If it can reproduce all of them, then it will be a good system. For sure tuning play an important role also(that's why I stick to my current HU).

Nope.... Because you need to convert your battery power(DC) to AC in order to power your Altec Lansing. Very complicated unless you know electronics.

Absolutely possible. Use the DC to AC converter preferably 500 watts above. can find the 300 watts easily in pc shop which we use to charge laptop. connect the line output from your HU or PC to your Altec. Enjoy.

For PC in car, can also use the same way to put. Easier this day. Many choices especialy for those lives in KL. Use DC - AC converter 1000 watts. Charge a UPS. Then U can connect anything you want even a washing machine in your car. Simple thing use the asrock nettop ion 330. Or mini HP netbook Or PC tablet, Or those EEE touchscreen or The PDA or handphone with windows mobile or micro itx pc or pico itx pc or bla bla bla.. Make sure you know what you're a doing when playing with those 220 volts. I've done mine before but I found that i didn't live in the car but in my house. So and so. The choice is yours. Cheers and Merry Christmas to all.

PS: After you done it don't forget to put sticker to your car ; bluetooth, AMD or Intel, Acer, WIFI, 3G, Logitech etc. so the thief will know which car is.

Yes you may have your altec lansing in your car but there iwll be a modification to it! Most of the mosfet amplifiers inside the speaker runs on 12 or 24 volts. If you want to know what is the voltage rating inside your component i would like to help you if you provide Altec Lansing speakers for me to post mortem.

ps: please try not to use inverters in the car because it is ridiculous! wonder how much power you loss between the conversion! loss through heat!

ps: there will be some car pc exhibition in muar and Puchong Utama on this 19/20 dec
