QUOTE(Mavik @ Jul 18 2021, 04:25 PM)
I believe what is holding them back are actually the numbers and volume. For example, when I spoke to some folks in a local bank who implemented Samsung Pay, the numbers were just too low. This is because after cutting through the population of Android users, it's then specific to Samsung phones and then certain Samsung phones. Since the launch of Samsung Pay then until now, the eWallets have grown tremendously and they did a lot of the heavy lifting, like A LOT of heavy lifting, which is MERCHANT acquisition and training. Most of the time if you want to pay with Samsung Pay which you can pay with it, the staff at the retail outlets or shops probably don't know that they work. This is what eWallets like Grab, Boost, TnG and FAVE have been investing in training the merchant staff on how to handle it. The more trained they are in any of those platforms, the more they will easily accept it.
*
TLDR
Sounds like it’s the merchant staffs’ problem that they do not want/not eager to learn. Ever since I had my AP activated and I went to like 7-11 or 99, I always have to say “card” or “wave” then only they understand. If I did say like, “bayar fon”, they will instantly ask you which eWallet. So tbh, jus tell the staff u wan to pay with card or wave, then it’s fine already.

As for the SP, it’s mmg Sammy’s fault. Only certain number of phones can use SP and not everyone can use it. On the other hand, AP is literally on every iPhone (after 6/6s. Cnt rmb which) so technically, AP would have a higher success rate compared to SP. Although SP and AP are similar, they can’t really be compared as their spread/influence is different.

And tbh, after seeing what Thebestscammer ‘s reasoning, it makes a little to no sense for banks to launch it this year as everyone is staying home but hey, once the vaccination rate goes up, who knows the gov will open more sectors and people will start heading out again. Also, who knows maybe this year’s iPhone and Watch launch in MY will launch tgt with AP which maybe it is in Apple MY’s roadmap. I’ve been seeing AARs spamming with reasons why ppl should buy AW or even showing they can buy AW with instalments. Prior to this, they have not been heavily promoting AW at all so why the sudden mass promoting?

Ok I just realised this reply is no longer a TLDR. 😂 It’s now a TLLR (too long lazy read)

Malaysia still can’t use APPLE Pay?

No but "insider leaks" in the past few pages of this thread claims it's happening in Q4 2021. So let's see which bank announce first.

Everytime I see this thread bumped up, I was hoping it’s some good news but it’s always a disappointment. I mean, bumping this thread up for no good reason is really a bummer.

Anyways, I found something interesting for those understand JSON. Apparently, this is what your phone will request from Apple every time you launch AP.

AP JSON file

Well, continue refreshing this JSON file everyday and hope there’s suddenly MY in there.

Sekian.

Excited to see iOS 15 with support for Apple Pay but looks like our local bank cards are not supported yet. Now this stupid thing is prompting every now and then asking to add a card into Apple Pay… 😅

Nothing to do with Apple Account’s region. I’m saying about the phone’s region. Settings -> General -> Language & Region -> Region.

Dunno. Ask our fintechs or banks or the better one, BNM why so. It's technically there already since last year.

https://www.apple.com/my/wallet/

Apple MY added a new page for Wallet but no signs of AP yet. Ugh. I thought there's something to look forward to but this is just heartbreaking.

Arghhh, I missed it. Seems like it's an easter egg for this service cos there's someone in the reply mentioning it as an easter egg.

Any chance anyone here caught a glimpse? Maybe it's a date?

this is genuine news. expect public launch Q4. More than 1 bank will participate.
*
QUOTE(Xaphier @ Jul 5 2021, 03:40 PM)
It is directive from BNM, all banks can participate given they agree to their terms. I cannot disclose more than that.

2 months left to "prove" you guys are not lying. biggrin.gif

Or is there any updates on it being pushed back or even worst, put on hold? bye.gif

finally we will have multi-currency card support for malaysian's wise users.

Would really love to know if you are able to add the card into Apple Pay.

But I doubt so. I've check the JSON file by Apple, I still see no "MY" in it.

Tough luck.

MBB is listed as their competitor. So I highly doubt it's MBB.
CIMB? HLB? UOB? But yeah, who knows, it really could be MBB as MBB is the biggest in MY andddd they are pretty known to grab all new services into the country.

JPMorgan Chase Bank Berhad

I've changed my Wise to MY from SG (have to submit some paperwork).
Able to see that the Account Details bank is JPMorgan Chase.

Pros:
1) Wise card can still be used.

Cons:
1) When I want to reload MYR Wise, it will still ask me to pay in SGD. cry.gif
2) Every setting under Account Limits -> Spending Limits are still in SGD.

submit from in app? after change to MY apple pay still can use?
*
Yeap. Inform the CS that you recently relocated. But let me check first if I’m able to reload MYR using MYR (1 to 1) first on Monday as I need to contact their CS to change my “main currency” to MYR.

But yes for now, AP is usable. I am not sure if we can still add the card to Wallet IF WE REMOVE IT so please do not remove if you have changed to address country MY.
