RIP for those who only have CIMB as their sole bank account.

According to this history, I don’t think when the Apple Event matters, what matters is when the central bank and the card issuer are ready to release it to the public.

After six years, Apple Pay is still not available in Malaysia?
*
No, no local bank or financial institution supports Apple Pay yet. If you’re the privileged few who work or study abroad; you can technically use Apple Pay in Malaysia but it’s a hit & miss.

There have been some Malaysians who were able to get Apple Pay via Wise as a Malaysian resident. However I’m unsure of the legality of doing so. If you’re interested, I have left the link below. Use the information as you wish.

even if it comes here i dont think many would use it.

I for one would definitely use it and some on this forum would gladly use it. In-store payments would probably not be fully utilised, however don’t underestimate the power of online shopping. Apple Pay makes shopping online so painless, it would probably make you spend more money. As it, would already have your name, shipping address, email & phone number saved; it’s just a matter of authorising the payment.

QUOTE
if terminal dont accept or 'rosak' then you still need the card anyway.
Bruh, if the terminal is ‘rosak’ that shit ain’t gonna accept Apple Pay or even a physical card for that matter. That doesn’t make sense.

QUOTE
kinda dumb but i feel like i can see this not going well since its not a malaysian made thing and the kronies will want to push it down as much as possible
It’s not dumb, it’s the next step for consumer payments. It’s easy for the consumer to use, the merchant just need to know it’s a contactless payment and the bank gets people spending more as who would leave their phone nowadays.

If what people are saying is true, the banks have invested a lot of money into bringing Apple Pay into Malaysia. If I know about one thing about banks is, they don’t fuck around when it comes to money; they are not gonna let their investment go to waste due to some dull bureaucrats. But then again, your username does check out.

I guess there will be quite a number of bank will support
Maybe a few bank will go first, but we can just wait until our preferred to support
I guess those bank who support Samsung Pay will support Apply Pay too
*
Yeah, usually it would be one bank that would support Apple Pay, then the other banks would offer Apple Pay as they don’t want customers to switch to that bank that has Apple Pay.

The aim now is to have at least one bank to see Apple Pay as feasible and worth their investment. Once a bank supports Apple Pay in Malaysia; the others would follow their lead like a domino. Now we are in the most boring part, waiting for the news of its release.

I rarely come to apple section
If really launch malaysia, when payment do not say apple pay, just say paywave, or pay with card wave
I have been use samsung pay since 1st day launch on malaysia [did not join beta], until now most staff still dunno wtf is samsung pay,
Some say no mobile payment here, not support samsung pay, where is your card, or go to pickup ewallet terminal want to scan my ewallet QR code
*
The thing is that many merchant are not tech savvy. In a way ignorant of modern consumer payments. It’s the merchant’s fault but also the business owner’s fault for not educating their staff regarding different payment methods. My friend last time also made payments with Samsung Pay and the staff so bodoh and think using his Samsung phone would not work. Once the transaction was completed, the merchant so dumbfounded that a phone can make an NFC payment.

Hey guys, I noticed OCBC Malaysia supports Wallet on the Apple App Store. However, I can’t find any online sources that says OCBC Malaysia supports Apple Pay locally. Is OCBC, the first bank to release it to Malaysia, or is it some developer who forgot to unmark the Supports section?

Unfortunately I’m not a OCBC customer, and I’m too lazy to open another account (I already have several). Anyone who is an existing OCBC customer can you test?

I hope so, unfortunately I don't have a OCBC account so I wouldn't be the first to try it. I hope if OCBC releases Apple Pay in Malaysia, my preferred banks would cave in to consumer demand.

Make sense that those banks that are already offering Apple Pay in SG will be the first to offer it here.
*
Not necessarily, HSBC & Standard Chartered support Apple Pay in other markets (including Singapore) but neither is willing to push Apple Pay support in Malaysia. Even in Singapore, it was American Express who supported Apple Pay first and the local banks like DBS, UOB & OCBC caved in to prevent consumers switching to AmEx. My hope is that OCBC is willing to take the risk of Apple Pay support in exchange of more consumers switching to their bank. Just like that, the other local banks would cave in and also give Apple Pay support, like what happened to Singapore.

NFC reloadable Touch n' Go card, MRT Putrajaya Line Phase 1 & Apple Pay; all delay. You know lah, Malaysia always cannot deliver what they promised. I'm fine if it takes a while to make; what I don't like is that they always overpromise and underdeliver (Of course, I'm not including Apple Pay since it's release date has not been publicly disclosed, but still frustrated). mad.gif

Samsung Pay was released a while back with minimal issues; what policy is preventing them from implementing Apple Pay?

Meant to say 2022. Whoopsie
Same 3 issues I mentioned before

1) Multi device authentication of apple pay (1 card can be used on phone and watch, current policy is 1 Device Primacy Acc Number (DPAN) to 1 card)
2) Apple pay doesnt require pin for transactions above RM250
3) Apple pay doesnt have a daily limit for contactless transactions (currently RM1000)

All 3 requires either policy update OR exemption, which is what I'm guessing Samsung Pay got.

Anyway, seems like another core issue is some old guy just dismissing the whole idea of Apple Pay.
*
1) Even if having multiple of the same cards is a concern; you still need biometric authentication or a passcode before payment. It’s not like a physical card that you can steal and use the contactless function without verification.
2) Any wave transaction above RM250 needs a PIN anyway, it’s literally like your bank card but on your iPhone. Apple Pay still needs verification before payment.
3) Apple is not the card issuer, it’s just merely a platform to host the digital cards. The bank works with Apple and it’s responsible for the default limit and consumers have the option to increase it.

Even if the thief has the user’s biometric or passcode (at this point, if the user has reach this far; they really suck at securing their own iPhone) its the user’s responsibility to contact the bank about the stolen card and erase their stolen iPhone’s data via iCloud.

Is waving your phone over the card terminal not seamless enough for some?

It will be really fucked up if Apple Pay was cockblocked because some boomer doesn’t understand modern consumer electronics.

Like seriously, please have some tech savvy BNM officials approve it. Like it would really suck if this is the current situation.

Yet to update my iPhone to iOS 15.3 and watchOS 8.4. Maybe why it shows Apple Pay on your Apple Watch is because the developers forgot to turn it off for unsupported countries like back with iOS 13.6 for Malaysia.
