Yeah most hostels are run by Western educated youngsters. Got quite a shock when I first checked in to my dorm when the staff counter was using f bombs throughout his conversation with me laugh.gif
*
however some are like trying so hard to pull off an american accent. really cause my ears icon_question.gif i prefer they speak in a normal way instead but well you know this won't be happening.. cause this is korea.. hehehe

Yeah exactly! Korean language is the polar opposite of English. Different sentence structures. I don't know mandarin either (which is the easiest language to transition from to Korean due to the many similarities).

But lately there are more and more loan words from English into Konglish. Won't be surprising in a decade or so time, the Korean language will be very rojak like our "malay" language now a days.
laugh.gif

No offense to guesthouses, but tried once, never again. It was a regretful experience.
*
agreed. plus after generation by generation and changes by influences and etc, there are many loan words from english. they also learn english from this way haha. so far most guesthouses i went before is good tongue.gif

QUOTE(joytest @ Oct 14 2016, 04:21 PM)
Well the same in Vietnam. I believe their teachers or instructors are either American or they are using language materials from the US hence the accent.

The accent we (both SG and MY)  use is rather flat and as far as I can tell it only exists in these 2 countries.
*
yes. ours and the neighboring country english is flat and clear. very easy to recognize. other countries one perhaps mixture of their local slang with english hence another kind of accent tongue.gif

Yea, Malaysian. Work in Malaysia. It is korean company. They sponsored me for MBA here., speak little Korean only but still self-learn. Class in English. MBA here are divided into global/ international and Korean.

hehe. i finished my studied early due to taking double credit hours in certain semester. Now, shaking leg and learn korean only.
*
perhaps you are being sponsored there to take MBA so learning korean is not a must? because most of my friends who went there for further studies must learn and pass certain level of korean language.

It is not a must. I am enrolled in international program. For those classes in Korean, then yes, must pass until Topik Level 4.

QUOTE(ksoon @ Oct 25 2016, 02:54 PM)
Hi y'all! My itinerary is currently the same but its like 5 days Seoul and 4 days jeju from 30/3 to 7/4.  Just a couple of questions.

1. Is it too early for cherry blossom if say we were to  be in seoul from 3/4 to 7/4? and 30/3 - 2/4 in Jeju? Havent bought my tickets yet and we are planning to arrange to travel wen its most likely to bloom.

2. I know it is subjective, but just on an average how much would you spend on a meal in Seoul & Jeju? A range or just average will do!

Thanks in advance for the help!
*
usually the cherry blossom event / activity started from end of mar to beginning of apr. this year also around the same time of your travel date. however if raining, then tree not that nice already laugh.gif

due to inflation of our rm, you need to spend more now. your trip next year, i can't predict the rate will be higher till how much. no longer cheap going to seoul anymore tongue.gif of cause spending in jeju will be cheaper compare to seoul. roughly estimate rm35 and above per pax for a meal in a normal restaurant. can be cheaper if sharing and depends on what you eat. street food is not cheap

Errr... I don't think that's a great suggestion. My 2 cents is, it's not worth the few bucks saved just to wait for the elevator to the 10th floor, fight with the PRCs and then endure the amount of rudeness from these sakai people.

Stay at the street lol for cosmetics.

I travelling to Seoul first and flying back to KL from Busan. Can I do most of my shopping in Busan? Are things cheaper in Busan compared to Seoul? Will there be more varieties in Seoul which you couldn't find in Busan?
*
you can shop in busan. more or less the same but of cause in term of varieties (clothing or shoes), seoul have more choices.

Welp, here's another bad news: South Korea has determined that H5N6 bird flu has been detected.

So to anyone going there in the near future, do expect to be quarantined if any symptoms arise. Stay safe guys!
*
sweat.gif hopefully they solved things out so that it won't cause an outbreak that last long. else really impact tourism

hi both, lets say i rent a pocket wifi.. how much would it cost and any recommendation please?

im going with my gf, so initially i tot i can just get the data sim for my gf to use..

it cost about rm130 now for 10 days with the SK Telecom, though we will be there for 7 days smile.gif
*
2 persons also can rent pocket wifi. still worth it as both of you can share the connection.

5,500 won per day (38,500 for 7 days) by kt olleh pocket wifi. can be use up to 5 devices
38,500 won bt kt olleh data sim card for 10 days usage for 1 phone

or rent a pocket wifi in msia and bring it over to korea. rm15/day by travel recommend (price and customer service quite good). you can try survey and compare with other rental company such as visiondata, wiyo, etc

Hi, I would like to ask
From Gimpo Airport to my airbnb near Ewha station.
With our luggage, the easiest way of transportation is take train to Hongik Univ Station, then take taxi to our airbnb? As I research Ewha Station has no elevator, it will be difficult to take subway?
*
why not stop at ewha station instead of at hongik and take cab after that? actually it's quite near and the cab might charge you more tongue.gif just take your luggage up the stairs la.. else take exit 6. also not all exit at hongik have elevator tongue.gif

Hi Yvonne,

i'm going to seoul by end of next month, could you suggest me those a "must-go" places and restaurants?

thanks.
*
almost the same timing as me rclxm9.gif

those "must go" already listed on page 1.. you can go through from the list. as for the restaurants, it differ among people so it's hard to recommend also. usually those famous one will list out top from those blogger or when you search on google tongue.gif compare to those small eateries, their turn over is not that high.

Has anyone had experience getting to Everland? I had looked through the information on the internet, most of the people suggest to get to Gangnam Station and take bus 5002 but it would take around 90mins. Are there any other suggestions? Thanks

Thanks for the info!
My airbnb is about 300meter from ewha station. I worry carry few big luggage and take subway will be troublesome. So thinking of taking taxi from Hongik station.
*
if you take plan to take big luggage you have the risk of dragging your luggage if you don't plan to take cab or airport transfer. 300m from ewha station not that far should be no issue.. however i suggest you that when you depart back to airport, just hired airport transfer if you purchase lotsa stuffs. more convenient biggrin.gif
