my optimus does have the infamous desktop right click microstutter ,it seems like an intel igpu driver issue. So far, i used a workaround posted on intel/microsoft forum and it doesn't bother me.

IMO, overheating usually means the cooling system have problems, optimus or not.

Didn't actually have any of the micro-stutter thing on my S5X TBH, though I don't actually have any of the Intel/Nvidia stuff on my context menu (removed them all via registry) and actually stuck with the stock drivers for both Intel and Nvidia so that might just be it.

Also, yeah, overheating is more the cooling system (heat paste, sinks, pipes and fans) then a question of Optimus being present or not. I mean, the chips get hot anyway... but if they overheat to the point of restarting (and its NOT because of driver issues) then that particular chip has NO place within the laptop it's being used in (i.e. it's just bad design).

For example, pairing a cheap single fan, shared single-heatpipe cooling setup with a high-heat CPU/GPU setup. Or the infamous Alienware tripod heatsink... which is the main cause behind the imbalanced heating issue prevalent in current gen Alienware laptops.

And a laptop GPU/CPU is even designed to throttle down (aka slow down) before it reaches critical point, so not even having time to throttle before shutting down means that it's a particularly serious issue, cooling-wise.

Although, heat paste application quality can actually vary quite a lot amongst laptops so it might just be that.

For example, the SHIT loose-tripod heatsink system on the current Alienwares are the MAIN reason why some Alienwares have the infamous unbalanced CPU overheating as the heatsink isn't being evenly held down against the CPU.

Although, heat paste application quality can actually vary quite a lot amongst laptops so it might just be that.

oh, you already done the workaround, removing the intel options from the menu, via registry. That's why you don't get the microstutters. biggrin.gif I'm using stock intel igpu drivers, but updated nvidia's to 390.65.

just a thought, what's your s5x max-q gpu max power draw? nvidia website only shows a range at 80-90w. Wonder what is s5x configuration. hmm.gif

Its probably on the lower side of things, looking as it's a tad lesser performing vs the one on the Zephyrus 1070MQ version (check NBC for the numbers, but roughly 1000 points lower on 3DM11). On the plus side its also probably why the S5X lasts longer, amongst other things.

Hi, there is no promotion for S5X? Also, does the S5X have Windows Precision drivers for the touchpad?

Thanks

You'll hardly find reviews on illegear products. You'll have to browse through all the posts and take a leap of faith

Hi jrlogger, we could not feature the CNY promotion for the S5X because of the low stock condition at the moment, truly sorry about that. Yes, the S5X is equipped with the Windows Precision drivers for the touchpad.

Hi IdiuU, thank you very much for your purchase. For the D9X, you would have to fold out the top section of backpack backwards to insert the laptop into the backpack. Quite tricky because of its thickness: user posted image

Hi TYK, you can also browse for the reviews of Clevo PA71HP6-G or Clevo PA71HS-G since we are using the same barebones for S7 Elite.

Hi ho1yday

We do not have any official tools/software to monitor the temperature of the laptop and should you wish to do so, we would recommend you to use one of these applications:

CoreTemp: http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/
HWiNFO: https://www.hwinfo.com
Speccy: https://www.ccleaner.com/speccy
