Current pharmacy glut is quite bad. Some 2015 USM grads still not called for interview but batch 2016 already graduated. Maybe you need to check on the current unemployment climate before making ur decision.

My brother went to pharm usm with a levels back in 2012. It's possible.

Biotech can work anywhere since it's not a professional course. But to work in biotech field is tough, Msia doesnt have enough R&D capacity to cater to ALL biotech grads. They usually end up outside their course of study.

But now there are a lot of opportunities in clinical research field. So it depends. If you just want a cushy job 9-5 under aircond without much problem then any degree will do.

For those who dont know what they want to be, I'd suggest taking a gap year. Explore all opportunities. That way you wont end up doing a course you dont like for the next 3 years.

I dont know since I'm not in the field.

I think there are a few issues at hand -
1) you dont know what you want to do
2) you dont know whats the job market is like out there
3)your mother wants you to go USM biggrin.gif

For other field, why not go talk to someone in that industry.

No idea if you need to wait longer as the situation is worsening. You might even have problem finding job after graduation as the market is already oversaturated.
Biotech still fine.

I thought we don't have much biotech local companies in Msia? Unless you include those jobs like insurance claim agents /med sales rep etc

This is the issue with Msian education. We are not trained to find out what's our own interest. That's why you think the subject you prefer is the profession you're going to choose, which is far from reality... unless you wanna be an academician. But here is a tip: Most MNC do hire physicists to work as engineers. But I've never heard any hospital hires a biotech/biomedician as a Dr.

as i said above....biotech is not a regulated profession, and one can find job in almost anywhere....

pharnacy is a regulated profession, and you are restricted by the need to be registered....

there are pros and cons in both.....

Yes, as long as they are willing to employ you...you don't need professional registration, unlike pharmacy....only one msian pharmacy degree is recognised in Singapore...

Don't expect to work in biotech when you're done with university. There are close to none relevant jobs in biotech in the country

It simply means, when you graduate, you'll just look for some random job....sales job, office admin job, promoter, credit card agent whatever job that doesn't require any specific degree.

SG? If you are a new graduate out of USM, you will not be able to work in SG unless you get a role that pays you $4k which is almost improbable given that there are NUS grads looking for those roles too.

If interest is still telling you to study biotech....then go ahead but you have been warned.

In Msia, the best roles are still in O&G, followed by banking and finance. In 3-4 years, no one knows how the oil market will be, if you graduate like those who did so in 2011-2012....then you will be lucky, if you just finish a degree in petroleum engineering now.....really kanasai now.
