Ah yeah thats true too T.T

Maybe cause i'm thinking of future proof or something but the pc I'm using now was from 2009 or 2010 xD
Just checked and the seller for the i7 is using True Power 300W PSU or something. And also he tested with a GTX 950 also all is fine. Maybe I should replace the PSU later on?
But also not sure if I can replace PSU later cause actually the pc itself is from a Dell Optiplex 7010 IIRC and cant seem to find enough info on it. Most of the parts are replaced too other than the CPU.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Reason being I'm already having a hard time asking around on what casing I can change into later cause I want to get the LED thingy so that my casing will be cooler or somewhat like this:

Also noted on the SSD. Thanks a lot for answering! smile.gif

Oh so it's a pre-built OEM PC, make sure the mobo is mATX (or at least the popular form factor) so you can move all the hardware to new casing. After seeing it being an OEM PC, if I were you, I will go for a new Skylake/Kaby Lake build instead, you may want to ask yourself, is i7 really needed for your usage?

And I re-calculated, 2.3k doesn't seem to worth it anymore (with an unknown OEM mobo) since you are going to change to a new casing and possibly a new PSU too, better start from scratch, just my 2 cents smile.gif

[Personal preferences]

Intel Core i7 7700 - RM 1436
Gigabyte H270-HD3 - RM 549
G.SKill Aegis 16GB (8GB x 2) DDR4 2400MHz RAM - RM 526
Asus GTX1060 6GB GDDR5 Dual - RM 1286
Kingston SSDNow UV400 240GB SSD - RM 338
Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD - RM 219
EVGA SuperNova 550 G2 - RM 459
Tecware Alpha - RM 229
Dell UltraSharp U2417H IPS - RM 996

Total: RM 6038 (ETECH price inclusive of GST)

Not sure how much more you can fork out, you can do these to reduce the total cost:

1. Downgrade to i5 7400/7500 (save roughly RM 500)
2. Remove the SSD for now and add later when you have more funds
3. Downgrade the PSU to a cheaper one
4. Swap the whole system to last gen Skylake CPU platform (can save probably RM 100)

And sorry I don't follow too much on peripherals, so no comment from me on the keyboard biggrin.gif

May I know is i5-7500 holding the value/performance like the i5-6500 did for mid end pc?
*
Not this time anymore, Intel boosted the clock speed of all Kaby Lake CPU by roughly 0.3GHz so the lowest end Kaby Lake i5 7400 now comes with 3.0GHz base clock rclxms.gif

I think that the Windows 10 jacked up the total cost because it is very rare to see an i3 + GTX1050 rig costs 3.5k sweat.gif

BTW there are few sellers selling Windows key at cheaper price in Garage Sales, you may want to check it out to save some money (well you can save a lot by going this way actually, hmm roughly 90% off? whistling.gif )

If you play BF1 multiplayer with 32 or 64 players map, make sure you go for at least an i5 with high clock speed because it is very CPU demanding.

Hey terence, nice seeing you here.

For kaby lake, which CPU you recommend for a mid-end setup? Mainly for MMO gaming icon_rolleyes.gif

I will pick i5 7400.

i5 7500 is quite expensive, almost RM 950 already, thanks to our currency doh.gif

in oz now but this place is just too good to get feedback and recommendation. feel free to scrutinize any of the parts mentioned here. Basically looking for proper value for money rig. budget is flexible. if some things are too much or too little do let me know. thanks a lot guys.

Looks ok to me.

But I will ditch that WD 3TB HDD, 5,400 RPM is not my cup of tea, will go for 7,200 RPM drive instead.

storage 1.5tb hdd
ram      kingston value ram 8gb
gpu      msi r9 390

monitor res 1080p

planning to upgrade proc to play cpu demanding games : gta v , far cry
not sure to go for which path 1. completely switch to kabylake i5 7400+ mobo +ram will cost around rm1.4k    or
                                          2. hunt for used i7 3770 which cost around rm700-800

i check the perfomance of both proc almost the same . maybe i5 7400 will be slightly faster due to ddr4 ram ? not sure bout that
thanks in advance!!
*
i7 3770 should outperform i5 7400 when it comes to multithreading software/apps/games, one of the examples would be GTA V (and other open world titles). I will hunt for an used i7 3770 first, if cannot find a good deal then only go for new Kaby Lake build.

WD doesn't seem to carry 7200rpm anymore do they? it used to be the green model. and i kinda dislike seagate from past experiences. unless i go for WD black?

Only the WD Blue 1TB is 7,200 RPM (anything > 1TB would be 5,400 RPM), should be fine if you aren't too picky on the max transfer speed.

Hi all Sifu,

I'm planning to start again my hobby (playing games) and planning to build rig as below:-

i5 - 7400
ASUS ROG H270F - Mobo
Sapphire Nitro OC+ RX480 8Gb
G.SKILL ripjaws v series 8G
APACER 120Gb (Hopefully enough)
CM Elite V2 550W

Any comments on this setup?

TQ
*
120GB surely won't be enough, OS will take roughly 25GB, so you left around 90GB for games only, and nowadays the file size of latest games is very big tongue.gif

After further research i have come out with these 2 specs(scrapping the DELL OEM hackintosh cause of 3rd gen). Which one would be better?

Usage is mainly for online gaming, photoshop and lightroom smile.gif

Processor: INTEL i5 6402P
Motherboard: ASRock H110M-HDV
VGA: ZOTAC GTX 1050 OC
RAM: 1 x 8GB DDR4 2133mhz
PSU: 1st Player Blackwidow 500W Bronze
Chasis: Tecware F3

Processor: INTEL i3 6300
Motherboard: ASRock H110M-HDV
VGA: ZOTAC GTX 1050 OC
RAM: 1 x 8GB DDR4 2133mhz
PSU: 1st Player Blackwidow 500W Bronze
Chasis: Tecware F3
SSD: PNY 120GB SSD
RM2348

I can probably live without SSD and save up to get bigger SSD cause 120gb is actually bare minimum T.T
*
1st player Blackwidow PSU? Hmm I never heard before yet, not sure about its quality and reliability.

Personally I will go for 1st option since SSD can be added later, performance of the CPU/GPU always comes first.

Budget would be RM800 all in (cpu+mobo+gpu+casing+psu)

BIOS update is needed to support Kaby Lake CPU, the seller will help you to update most likely if you let them assemble the rig so that's fine.

Dear Sifu(s),

Newbie here trying to build a new PC for gaming and video editing. After searching here and there, and copying the builds from the pros, I came out with the following:

INTEL CORE I7-6800K UNLOCKED FOR OC(28lanes)(6 CORE/ 12 THREADS/3.8GHZ)
CORSAIR HYDRO H115i (280L Radiator/dual SP140L PWM)
ASUS X99-E (ATX /Aura RGB/M.2 /8xDDR4 /3-Way SLI & Crossfire/8xSata3/1XGiGabit LAN/Realtek ALC1150 8-Channel/Crystal Sound 3)
Geil Evo X Aura RGB 4x8GB DDR4 3200Mhz(CL16)
EVGA GTX1080 8GB DDR5X 256BIT FTW Gaming ACX3.0 (1860/10000)
FSP Hydro G 750W (80+GOLD/Full MODULAR)
CORSAIR GRAPHIT 780T BLACK WINDOW
SAMSUNG 850 EVO 500GB V-NAND (540/520)
WD 3TB Caviar Blue 5400RPM/64MB
ASUS 16X Internal Blueray BW16D1HTPRO
Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64Bit

I am wondering if all these are compatible with one and another? Is there anything that should be changed? Also, is it VR ready?

My budget is around RM 10k to RM 12k.

Hopefully sifu(s) can have a look and comment. Thank you.
*
Looks ok, based on my rough calculation, the total cost of the hardware/parts above is around 10.5k+/-.

Swap the PSU to a better quality one if you have additional budget, you didn't mention your budget initially so I don't know if you have enough budget or not, if don't have then you can change the mobo to a cheaper one to cater the cost of a better PSU.

This PC is based on previous gen (Skylake) hardware, performance difference between Skylake and Kaby Lake (latest) is very small, Skylake is slightly cheaper.

Intel Core i3 6098P - RM 480
ASRock H110M-ITX - RM 283
G.SKill Aegis 4GB DDR4 2133MHz RAM - RM 145
Kingston SSDNow UV400 120GB SSD - RM 216
Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD - RM 219
CM Elite Power 350W - RM 126
CM Elite 110 - RM 158

Total: RM 1627 (ETECH price inclusive of GST)

Optional:
1. Processor downgrade to Pentium G4400 is workload is light.
2. Wait for the upcoming Kaby Lake Pentium processor with hyperthreading technology (like i3 with cheaper price tag).
3. Add another 4GB of RAM if multitask a lot.

Your build list is ok (one of the optimized builds already), you can also look for Idealtech/ETECH/Techview/DotaTech if you don't want to buy at Lowyat Plaza, depends on your location.

Hi, please advice on my proposed rig.

Intel I5 7500 RM 939
Gigabyte B250-HD3 Mobo RM 395
GSkill Aegis 2133mhz 8GB Ram RM 245
Gigabyte Gefore GTX 1060 Windforce OC RM 1329
Super Flower Leadex Silver 550W PSU RM 339
NXZT S340 White RM 335
Western Digital 3.5' 1 TB (Blue) RM 215

Is there any significant difference between Gigabyte windforce oc and gaming G1 (RM 1429)?

Save cost to downgrade from SF Leadex 550 to FSP Hexa plus 550 (RM 199)?

Use basic H110 MOBO (~RM 290) instead of new B250?

Thank you
*
Minor cooler and clock speed difference, if your budget is tight then it is not worth to go for G1, same goes to the PSU.

New B250/H270/Z270 mobo is extremely expensive, H110 is a better choice if you want to save money, BIOS upgrade is needed to support the Kaby Lake CPU (you can consider 7400 or even the older 6500 to save money).

budget 5k

5k can fit at most GTX1070.

AMD Ryzen CPU is coming soon, same goes to Vega GPU, so CPU/GPU is probably not the best option to get now, look for SSD/HDD/PSU/casing first laugh.gif

QUOTE(linkinawe @ Jan 12 2017, 04:45 PM)
Hi I am looking a chassis.

Requirement :
1. 1 SSD + 3 HDDs (might add one more hdd in the future)
2. Cable management : need space on the side of the panel to stuff in cable for clean looking
3. Air flow design  (refer to attached sample pic)
    a. At least front Fans intake x1 (can be two), must have front fans to blow toward hdd ( need to keep HDD temperature down for longer lasting, got my working stuff)
    b. A least one Fans exhaust on the top
    c. A least one Fans exhaust on the top back
4. Convenience of installing hdds (no need to screw)
5. Size of chassis does not mattered, best if can fit ATX and Micro ATX

This basically a working only desktop, no GPU , no water cooling on processor.

I have budget of Rm400 max, however I want to save as much as I can , as long it meets my requirements.
thanks.

I can think of Corsair Carbide 200R, Thermaltake Versa H25, Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 hmm.gif

GTX1070 costs around 2k (more or less depending on the brand and model you get), another 2k for CPU platform, so you left around 1k for the rest of the parts (assumption).

SSD - probably 120GB to save cost, Samsung 750 EVO or Kingston UV400 will do (around RM 250)
HDD - probably 1TB HDD (WD Blue/Seagate Barracuda will do, around RM 220)
PSU - 500W to 600W one should be enough, which brand and model to get? (hard to suggest one now because we aren't sure which CPU/GPU we are going to get sweat.gif )
Casing - NZXT? But which model? S340?

Hi all sifus,i wanna build a rig with a budget of RM2500 i juz using for DOTA2,CSGO and FIFA ONLINE 3.

1)RM2500(CPU ONLY)
2)RM2500(Include monitor & decent keyboard)
*
Decent keyboard? That's one of the hardest questions if you ask me because different people is having different personal preferences so I am gonna skip this one (will leave some budget for it).

Intel Core i3 6098P - RM 480
Asus H110-M - RM 259
G.SKill 8GB DDR4 2133MHz RAM - RM 255
Palit GTX1050 2GB GDDR5 StormX - RM 565
Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD - RM 219
FSP Hexa+ 450W - RM 169
Tecware F3 - RM 125
BenQ GW2270 - RM 350

Total: RM 2422 (ETECH price inclusive of GST)

For the one with rig only, you have few options:
1. Get SSD
2. Upgrade GPU to GTX1050Ti
3. Upgrade to Kaby Lake (pay more but won't get too much performance boost so this is not recommended at all)
