QUOTE(Hans90 @ Jan 6 2017, 11:17 AM)
Hi All Sifu,

I3 7100 - 3.9GHz, 2 cores

I5 7400 - 3.0Ghz, 4 cores

Can anyone explain how does the Ghz and number of cores affect the speed of gaming or some application. Someone told me, some application / game will run faster on I3 because higher Ghz, coz even I5 with 4 cores, but the application / game will not utilize the all 4 cores also.

Make me so confuse...is it really worth to get I5 with 4 cores but lower Ghz?

Please Help...Thanks:)
*
If the apps/games you run/play is heavy on single core (single threaded), then the one with higher single core clock speed will win the competition, so in this case the i3 7100's 3.9GHz will beat the i5 7400's 3.5GHz (turbo boost from 3.0GHz when only one core is running actively).

If the apps/games are coded to utilize the extra cores/thread (multi-core or multi-threaded operation), then the "real" quad core i5 (4 core 4 threads) will beat the "virtual" quad core i3 (2 core 4 threads).

And yes not all apps/games are coded to utilize all the cores/threads nowadays but we have seen an increase in the amount of multicore/multithreaded apps/games in the recent years, i5 is more worth to invest if your budget allows (for the sake of future-proofing and reduce bottleneck as much as possible), 3.0GHz is fast enough to process your daily task (or 3.2GHz when turbo boost is not turned off for all core).

If you are dealing with single threaded apps/games daily and not going to change the usage pattern then i3 7100 will do the job just fine.

need help picking a psu.

my current rig is:

i5 6500
asus h110m-k
tecware f3
pioneer 120gb
1tb hdd
msi gtx 550 ti 1gb
cm 500w psu ( discontinued already )

can u suggest rm250 budget psu? maybe a bit silent one  hmm.gif
i will up to zotac gtx 1060 6gb amp later.

my current psu is not quite at all now when in game  cry.gif
*
Looking for a silent PSU? Your budget can only get low (or mid) end PSU and the noise level could be still an issue during load time, perhaps you can try to add more money and get a 0-RPM mode PSU so it stays silent during low load (most likely to happen when you run a modern Intel CPU + Maxwell/Pascal GPU due to low power draw so fanless mode will always on active).

maybe u can suggest better psu than this? how about evga 500b? it has 80+ bronze i think.
*
EVGA 500B is a low end PSU and doesn't have 0db feature, so fan sound is still audible during heavy load, if this is ok for you then you are good to go nod.gif

I see, the closest shop that you can find is either Techview (SS2) or ETECH (Kepong), service ✓ and price ✓

If you want a more professional rig building service, you can also consider Idealtech (Pandan Indah), but it might be a little bit too far from your location tongue.gif

You may opt for 6GB of GTX1060 if you want more VRAM (more future proof and more triple A titles need > 3GB VRAM on ultra settings nowadays), but you will need to drop the SSD so you can have enough budget for it, I don't know what games you play since you never mention them, if it is only Dota 2/CS:GO then you don't need GTX1060, GTX1050 is enough. BIOS upgrade is needed to support Kaby Lake CPU on H110 chipset mobo.

Intel Core i5 7400 - RM 870
Asus H110M-K - RM 259
GSKill Aegis 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 239
Palit GTX1060 3GB GDDR5 StormX - RM 889
Kingston SSDNow UV400 120GB SSD - RM 216
Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD - RM 219

Can but you don't need to do so though because the improvement is very small, it is not worth the money unless you go for Kaby Lake i5/i7.

i5 setup should do the trick just in case H.265 becomes popular.
https://www.reddit.com/r/htpc/comments/31gw...rk_results_for/

i5-4690 - 899
Gigabyte B85M-HD3A - 359
Corsair 8GB DDR3-1600 x1 - 239

Not too sure about how much you actually need for H.265 due to the bitrate though.
*
Netflix 4K for PC requires Kaby Lake CPU and Microsoft Edge browser.

Intel Core i5 7400 - RM 870
Asus H110M-K - RM 259 (BIOS update is required to support Kaby Lake CPU)
G.SKill Aegis 8GB DDR4 2133MHz RAM - RM 239
Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD - RM 219 (Can remove if a new HDD is not needed)
PSU reuse
Casing reuse

3k is considered as a tight budget nowadays so "good GPU and processor" requirement is harder to fulfill without compromise.

QUOTE(DotaGamer @ Jan 9 2017, 12:07 PM)
what is the differences between these 2 mobo Asus H110M-K and Asrock B150M-ITX ?

How about 3.6k budget?
*
One with lowest end chipset (H110), another one with slightly better chipset (B150), the difference between these 2 chipsets is not huge, B150 supports PCIe 3.0 naturally, more SATA/USB ports, more RAM slots etc.

H110M-K is a mATX mobo whereas B150M-ITX is a mITX mobo, different form factor here and due to the form factor of B150M-ITX being a mITX mobo, the advantage of B150 chipset over H110 is basically vanished here bye.gif

For 3.6k budget, you have few options available:

1. Get GTX1060 6GB and i5 6500/i5 7500 (higher clock speed)
2. Get GTX1060 6GB and 240GB SSD
3. Get 240GB SSD, a better PSU and IPS monitor

[Monitor resolution]
1080p with more than 21.5inches

i5 will do, is gtx 1050ti recommended? Prefer mini or not so bulky casing

Thanks thumbsup.gif

3.5k can get i5 + GTX1060 already, forget about GTX1050Ti laugh.gif

BTW you said no need monitor in budget but then in monitor resolution, you wrote 1080p with more than 21.5 inches, I assume you have already have a 1080p monitor and its size is more than 21.5 inches right (just a FYI?)?

about the monitor, still no monitor, the budget for rig only....copypaste from previous one..forget to erase. haha

Oh I see.

Intel Core i5 7400 - RM 870
Asus B250M-A - RM 450
G.SKill Aegis 8GB DDR4 2400MHz RAM - RM 280
Palit GTX1060 6GB GDDR5 Dual - RM 1229
Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD - RM 219
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 188
Tecware F3 - RM 125

Total: RM 3361 (ETECH price inclusive of GST)

This is a Kaby Lake (7th gen) build, if you want to save some money, you can opt for "last gen" Skylake (6th gen), most likely can save up to RM 50+/-.

A 120GB SSD can be added separately if you want or upgrade the PSU to a better quality one with the rest of the budget biggrin.gif

Edit: Usually OS is not included unless stated, you can get one from Garage Sales.

[B][Budget] 2k-2.3k

[Purpose] Gaming, Editing. (If possible want to use for hackintosh also which means kabylake motherboard/cpu is a BIG NO sad.gif )

[Hardwares that will be re-use] Keyboard, Monitor DELL U2312HM with DVI Connector, Mouse

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Maplestory, Dragon Nest, Aura Kingdom, Paladins, Overwatch, DOTA2

[Personal preferences] SSD, RAM 8GB+, i5 and above if possible.

[Location] KL

Kindly advise please sad.gif
This is wat I was quoted for 2.3k is it good enough (some parts are new and some are used)?

Intel® Core™ i7-3770 Processo (Quad-Core, 3.4Ghz ,8MB Cache, Up to 3.8Ghz)
12GB DDR3 1600 RAM
Intel® Q77 Express Mainboard / 4 port USB3.0
Nvidia GTX750Ti 1GB DDR5 / 192-Bits
250GB SSD
500GB 7200 RPM SATA Drive
*
New Ivy Bridge (3rd gen) CPU and the respective mobo are nowhere to be found now, so they are probably used unit or leftover OEM stock.

But if they are still in good condition (as in still functioning well, warranty valid etc.), then it is quite a good deal actually.

New parts will cost more.

Intel Core i5 6402P - RM 775
MSI B150M Pro-VDH - RM 340
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 255
Palit GTX1050 2GB GDDR5 StormX - RM 565
Kingston SSDNow UV400 120GB SSD - RM 216
Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD - RM 219
FSP Hexa+ 450W - RM 169
Tecware F3 - RM 125

Total: RM 2664 (ETECH price inclusive of GST)

I noticed the i7 3770 rig specs listed by you doesn't come with PSU and casing so if I exclude both of them from the build list, the total cost will be around RM 2370.

Thanks for the recommendation!
It's a standard casing only & PSU was given too but I might have to check on it's watts. He's a quite reputable Hackintosh seller so I believe the unit is good and all working fine. Plus he's giving 60 days warranty for hardwares other than SSD and RAM(3 years & lifetime warranty for these).

And for the spec that I gave earlier, it can run those online games pretty well right? Since most online games graphic requirement aren't that high.

I mean even if lets say it's not a hackintoshi, its good already cause he told me on it can run a full HD rendering of final cut pro (or so I was told).
*
CPU performance wise, no doubt that the i7 3770 will beat the newer Skylake i5 6402P (4C8T vs 4C4T) and GTX750Ti is able to run those online games listed, though it might not be the max settings (should be ok if you don't mind the settings).

All right. Thanks a lot! Don't really mind about it being max or medium at least actually cause I was lagging so bad when I'm playing maplestory on my older pc lol.

Most spec when i ask for quotation(with price range for 2100-2300) i was told get this:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Only difference that I saw and that matters are the processors & graphic cards. SSD and HDD are interchangeable or need to top up abit. Are those good enough or should I just get the i7 that I posted earlier?

UPDATE: I was quoted this. How does it fares compared to the i7 spec?
http://idealtech.com.my/store/builder/show...serial=0OJID1RB

Also don't really need hackintosh for now cause i might buy a macbook pro later on...
*
The Skylake i5 rig that I've just posted earlier also lost to Ivy Bridge i7 in terms of raw performance, so what do you think of Skylake/Kaby Lake i3? tongue.gif

Hackintosh on non-Apple system is really weird, lots of missing drivers last time and graphics glitch everywhere, but yea that's quite a while already (just my personal experience, don't represent the real world scenario), maybe it's better now? Hope so biggrin.gif

You can consider removing the SSD for the time being and go for a better CPU/GPU, SSD can be added later when you have more funds, it is much easier to upgrade a storage drive than CPU/GPU.
