Need to upgrade wife PC since she can claim I/Tax rebate for 24.5% upto 3000 this year...

Currently her CPU is i5-2500, GPU is HD5850 i think... i dont need a Monitor... using some Silver rated 650w Modular PSU (2 years old)

She mainly use for playing games...

So budget 3000max (tax tax)...

I grabbed some recommendation as below... usable for my needs ka? Wan a full big size system... not small tiny box

Intel Core i5 6400 - RM 798
ASRock H110M-ITX - RM 278
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 215
MSI GTX1060 6GB GDDR5 OC - RM 1129
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 188
CM Elite 110 - RM 178
*
The build list above is a SFF (mITX) setup, you have to change the chassis and the mobo to fulfill your requirements. And FYI it is a little bit overkill if your wife only play basic/casual/light weight games (not graphics demanding), modify the build and add in SSD will be more suitable if this is the case sweat.gif

I heard that you need to buy full set in order to get the tax rebate (no hardware reuse is allowed), but I am not entirely sure on this, please have a check before making the decision smile.gif

SPoken to the LHDN guys (when they called me in for some.... clarification) no monitor etc they dont care.. as long as its a Desktop PC, so I'm good to go without misc accessories.

She does MMO... and sometimes at Max setting in a PvP setting it might get a little heavy.

She do have a Samsung 850 SSD now... 120GB only though... maybe can upgrade this

She does want a big casing.. currently using the CM Enforcer... if casing too small put in the table looks very funny cause its a specific built table with slot

Does this mean the PSU can be re-used?
*
Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 862
Gigabyte B150-D3H (D4) - RM 379
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 215
MSI GTX1060 6GB GDDR5 OC - RM 1129
<SSD re-use>
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
<PSU re-use>
Tecware Alpha - RM 219

Total: RM 3019 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

SSD can re-use unless your wife is craving for more speedy storage space, same goes to HDD, but you didn't mention any HDD to re-use so I included one in the build list, if it is not needed, then you can use the extra money to buy a fancy chassis like:

Phanteks Enthoo Pro M Tampered Glass - RM 449
NZXT S340 Tampered Glass - RM 449

etc. (it looks like the trend is going towards tampered glass rolleyes.gif )

QUOTE(xcxa23 @ Nov 9 2016, 07:13 PM)
Marked down those mobo. Thanks

Last question, case.
ND a case that have ample airflow and support up to 4 gpu. Dust filter will be a plus. Of cos cheap as possible.

Thanks
*
You cannot install all the GPU "in a row" like a normal setup on these cheap mobo (they aren't designed for this kind of setup anyway) because of the PCIe slot placement and their bandwidth/speed, you need something like PCIe riser to connect them to the mobo, most of the miners go for test bench type chassis (open frame) but of course this attracts dust and house cleaning is needed occasionally.

Curious where does the RX 480 slots in between RX 470, 1060 3GB, 1060 6GB for best peformance to price ratio?
*
Depends on the price and the model you are going to get, but in general consensus, GTX1060 3GB holds the best ratio currently, can be bought under RM 950, RX470 both 4GB and 8GB just don't feel right with its pricing in Malaysia, GTX1060 3GB is a better pick than it.

If you really want to have a best price/performance ratio 'ranking' then it would be (in Malaysia only, might change in the future):

1. GTX1060 3GB
2. GTX1060 6GB
3. RX480 4GB/8GB
4. RX470 4GB/8GB

Thanks for the tip! Especially the casings... those are real nice, will probably grab the Phanteks.

Though I notice the i5-6500 isnt too much an improvement over my current i5-2500 (like 10%)  hmm.gif
http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel...2500/3512vsm517
*
That's the unfortunate case, AMD is slacking too far behind, leaving Intel in the lead so they only pump in some performance improvements over each generation doh.gif

QUOTE(5p3ak @ Nov 10 2016, 07:56 AM)
Interesting, I take that the 470 price cut have yet to reach Malaysia?
*
Price cut rarely happens in Malaysia, our local retailers normally don't follow the price cut unless it is enforced by local distributor/origin.

I still can see Sapphire Nitro+ RX470 8GB new stock priced at 1.2k sweat.gif

Guys, need a mobo replacement, already dead and out of warranty.

i7 4770k
Asrock Z87 Extreme

Anything in the same color code ? (Black and white ?)

Thanks in advance.

*Edited, added, full pc specs.

i7 4770k
Asrock Z87 Extreme 6
Gskill SNIPER 2x8GB DDR3 1866mhz
PH-TC14PE Black
120GB Crucial M500 SSD
2TB WD Red HDD
Zotac GTX780 3GB DDR5
Carbide Air 540
LG DVD RW 24x
Rosewill Hive 750M Bronze Modular
*
CPU socket is LGA1150, it is already obsoleted (being replaced by LGA1151), so it is quite hard to find any new Z87/Z97 mobo in the market.

For black and white Z87/Z97 mobo, you can look for MSI Z97S Krait, you may have a hard time to find it, anyway good luck biggrin.gif

QUOTE(MeToo @ Nov 10 2016, 05:37 PM)
After poking around some stuff myself... I migth wanna go for the following..

Skylake i5-6600 (about 23% improvement over my current instead of 14% for 6500) - RM952
MSI GTX1060 6GB GDDR5 OC - RM 1129
MSI B150 Gaming M3 - RM552 (is this a good idea?, any improvement over the Gigabyte?)
Casing : Fractal Define R5 - RM469 (the PC will be in our bedroom..)
PSU : BE QUIET! STRAIGHT POWER 10 600W CM 80 PLUS GOLD - RM497

haiz.. as always cannot keep to budget... sweat.gif
*
CPU: 6500 holds the best price/performance ratio among all the Skylake i5, 6600 no doubt will bring more performance but does it worth? Benchmark is benchmark and usually doesn't apply to most of our real life application or usage. (You can still go for 6600 if you wish)

Mobo: Full size ATX mobo, a little bit overpriced due to B150 chipset being RM 550+, this price should get you a pretty decent H170 or entry level Z170 already, the "gaming" tag and the nice design bumped up the price sweat.gif (Sometimes aesthetic is priceless laugh.gif )

Chassis: Up to your personal preferences.

PSU: Straight Power 10 is a 2nd tier PSU, you might want to take a look at Superflower Leadex Gold instead, slightly cheaper and it is under 1st tier.

[Purpose] Gaming, movies, occasional graphics work

[Hardwares that will be re-use] No

[Monitor resolution] 1920 x 1080

[Games & softwares that use frequently]  Game - Witcher, The Forest, Skyrim etc, Others - Sketchup, Gimp

[Personal preferences] Rig only no need monitor and peripherals

Are the suggested parts compatible or require trial and error in building? Preferably no tinkering, noob here.

Also, I have an unused Win 7 oem license. Can I install on the new rig myself?

If custom build need a lot of trial and error, I might consider the pre-built Dell ones albeit shitty and less value for money. Thoughts?

1TB Hard Drive
NVIDIA® GeForce™ 730 2GB GDDR3.

Alienware Aurora

NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 950 with 2GB GDDR5.
P/s current custom rig failed to load. Casing light is on but not booting up. No idea if hdd or psu failure. 6 yr rig, psu changed 2 yrs ago (Hexa 550 if not mistaken).
*
Usually no trial and error is needed, but improper installation of hardware like RAM doesn't get seated properly may need some troubleshooting initially, but those are quite easy to solve, most of the mobo nowadays come with hardware failure troubleshooting code/LED so you don't really need to tinker around to find out what's the problem when PC is not booting. Can you get into BIOS with your current problematic rig?

Your budget can get you a Skylake i5 + GTX1060 already, those pre-built OEM PC are just doing daylight robbery with their low end specs doh.gif

Kingston UV400/Samsung 750 EVO should do the trick for fast and speedy storage disk, if you are looking for a more premium one, you can consider Samsung 850 EVO.

As always, thank you for your thoughts  thumbsup.gif

CPU : I canont bring myself to buy 6500 when the benchmark show so little imporvement over my current... so die die must see 20%+ improvement.. the price diff like 1.5 jug of beer la tongue.gif

Mobo : Good point on H170, I wont go Z170 cause I dont see myself overclocking or SLI. How about Gibabyte GA-H170-D3HP @ RM516? As for looking good... the casing doesnt have a see thru window... so is syiok sendiri saja hahaha

PSU : Hmmm didnt realise Straight Power 10 is 2nd tier, it was getting pretty decent reviews... i was going for a silent PSU.. cause those things really does contribute a lot of the noise coming from the PC.. will go back drawing board

Edit : Read there are some issues with SuperPower Leadex low hold up time? Maybe its model specific..
*
You can look for 0db PSU like Corsair RM series (and higher end series), the fan of the PSU will not spin until it reaches specific load (40%+), this will give you a complete silence PSU/rig.

Low hold up time should be fixed in the new batch, new stock should be ok but you can always swap to other option if you wish, check for revision number before making the purchase if needed.

Been trying to struggle finding a decent quiet PSU...

The COrsair RM series are also Tier 2... the RMi series are Tier 1, but @ $660 for 750w  sweat.gif

Edit 2 : My unit 650w enuf kan? Recommended PSU Wattage: 353 W

Edit : And no I dont dare to use the Seasonic fanless series... not with that casing...
*
I forgot RM series is already discontinued, left RMx and RMi only.

500W is enough for i5 + GTX1060 setup, even with mild OC, you can look for EVGA Supernova 650 GQ (SRP is RM 459), much cheaper than Corsair but without Corsair Link support (an app that allows you to fine tune the PSU).

Anyway, can't boot into bios. Lights and fan all running but no signal to monitor. It appears my motherboard has no internal speaker to produce beeps for troubleshooting.

Here you go.

MSI B150M Pro-VDH - RM 340
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 218
MSI GTX1060 6GB GDDR5 OC - RM 1129
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215

QUOTE(Prothero @ Nov 11 2016, 04:41 PM)
Hi guys, I am currently looking to upgrade my current graphic card, appreciate your inputs and suggestions.

My current specs are as follows :

Mobo : Gigabyte GA-B150M-D3H
RAM : 8GBx2 Kingston Value RAM DDR4
GC : Sapphire HD7870XT
CPU : Intel i5 6500
PSU : 550W Semi Modular NAXN brand PSU
Casing : Bitfenix Prodigy M
Monitor : DELL S2415H

My preference to upgrade my GC is as follows :

Budget : <RM1.2k
Cooling : Im using normal air flow, so need GC which has good cooling
OC : I am not planning to OC my new GC card
Brand : Wanna try NVIDIA this time, but not sure which brand to use (i.e. ASUS, MSI, ZOTAC, etc)
Required Specs : GTX1060 with 6GB memory
Usage : Heavy usage of World of Warcraft with graphic settings of 7+ out of 10.

I am looking at :

1. Zotac GTX 1060 AMP 6GB,

but also had a quick look at other brands such as :

2. MSI GTX 1060 6GT OC 6GB
3. Palit GTX 1060 Dual Fan 6GB

Hope that you guys can recommend which GC I should take to upgrade from my current GC.

Thanks!
*
All of them spot the similar full specs GP106 chipset so expect the performance to be very close with each other (with few FPS differences due to different clock speed and cooling solution of each card), I will go for Zotac in this case due to 5 years warranty being offered to their customers.

QUOTE(MeToo @ Nov 11 2016, 04:44 PM)
Oh ya bro how come u always recommend 8GB... enuf for gaming? tak payah 16GB ka?  hmm.gif
*
If budget allows, then surely I will go for 16GB RAM, 8GB is still enough unless you are lazy to do RAM management (like having many Chrome tabs open at the same time when gaming).

DDR4 RAM price hike recently, almost 50% increment doh.gif

very noob question here. How to change the SSD as primary boot drive and can move completely win10 to SSD?

What is the price range for SSDs above?

thanks!
*
You can clone your current C drive to SSD by using 3rd party software (too many to list, just search online).

Kingston UV400 120GB/240GB - around RM 200/RM 300
Samsung 750 128GB/250GB - around RM 230/RM 330
Samsung 850 EVO 128GB/250GB - around RM 280/RM 450

Yes (in general).

QUOTE(Woods of Ypres @ Nov 11 2016, 06:39 PM)
Oh yeah sorry further noob questions. This build list is complete and ready to run once pass to the shop and built? No need further add-ons like cooler, fans, sound card etc already right? Sorry not sure what parts are required for a fully functional pc ready to plug and play.
*
Cooler: CPU comes with 1 new Intel HSF so 3rd party cooler is not needed.

Casing fan: Most of the chassis in the market do come with at least 1 or 2 pre-installed intake/exhaust fans, can be added later if needed (optional).

Sound card: Use onboard sound card.

The build list is complete, just assemble the parts and install the OS to start using the PC. SSD is not included in the list due to budget constraint but SSD is completely optional, it helps to improve the system responsiveness and reduce the time needed to boot up the OS FYI, you can add one later when you have more funds.

Actually there are few options available for you.

1. i5 + GTX1070 + 1080p 60Hz monitor (for fancy ultra graphics)
2. i5 + GTX1060 + 1080p 144Hz monitor (recommended for FPS gamer)
3. i7 + GTX1060 + 1080p 60Hz monitor (the less preferred build, doesn't bring too much performance improvements compared to the other builds)

Both at normal 60Hz. If you think 60Hz will suite normal gaming experience, then we can stick to 60Hz for the third monitor.

My aim is to have PC that can do all of these at the same time. (basically a professional workstation and gaming rig)
- spawn a few vm's(maybe 2)
- open multiple tabs in chrome (maybe 20-30 tabs)
- open IDE and text editing tool
- play high quality games

The PC also at least must be able support 3 hdmi monitors, im saying this because I think some gpu you mentioned in previous build seems having limited hdmi ports. I might be wrong though tongue.gif

Budget is 3k as a reference, you can increased a bit if you think necessary but keep it at optimun budget. Planning to buy before end of this year to still get the 3k tax exemption for PC

Thanks you so much for your help and time  biggrin.gif
*
144Hz monitor ain't cheap, that's why I asked if yours is 144Hz already or looking to get a new 144Hz, now I know your decision and budget isn't fully restricted to 3k then it should be alright.

HDMI port is being phased out by DisplayPort, high end GPU now spots more DisplayPort than HDMI due to few reasons (bandwidth, resolution support etc). If you plan to run 144Hz monitor, you need at least HDMI 1.3 and above (for HDMI), the old school DP 1.2 already can support up to 4K60H/2K165H. You can use adapter to convert HDMI to DP and vice versa.

Intel Core i7 6700 - RM 1360
Gigabyte H170-HD3 (D4) - RM 446
Corsair 16GB (8GB x 2) DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 436
Gigabyte GTX1060 6GB GDDR5 Windforce OC - RM 1225
Kingston SSDNow UV400 240GB SSD - RM 296
EVGA SuperNova 650 GQ - RM 459
Tecware Alpha - RM 229
Acer XB240H 144Hz - RM 952

Total: RM 5403 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

You can reduce total cost by:
1. Downgrade to i5
2. Downgrade to cheaper/low end mATX mobo
3. Remove the SSD
4. Get a cheaper PSU (sub RM 200 one, but much lower quality)
5. Get a normal 60Hz monitor

Not recommended to downgrade the RAM to 8GB due to heavy multitasking (as I can see) and GPU due to **Gaming (latest game with high setting)**.

The GPU doesn't have 3 HDMI outputs, it is very hard to find any high end GPU with lots of HDMI outputs now, please use adapter/converter if necessary. The standard currently is 3 x DP, 1 x HDMI and 1 x DVI.

Thinking of buying some parts from them and asking them to assemble my new rig. Will be reusing some old components like my PSU, monitor, casing, etc.

I don't know how to install the rig myself, rather have an expert to do it properly.

What do you think of their prices and service?

Feedback and after sales services are positive so far. As for price, I don't want to comment too much, you can search the market (Lelong/Garage Sales etc) for comparison and you will know the result biggrin.gif

Seasonic PSU is facing stock shortage almost everywhere, I have to replace it with another model, you can still look for the one you need if you wish to do so.

wow. Thanks. i think i need to reduce the cost and follow your suggestion
1. Downgrade to i5
2. Downgrade to cheaper/low end mATX mobo
3. Get a normal 60Hz monitor

Can you provide alternative for these 3 requirements?
*
1. i5 6500
2. ASRock H110M-HDV (low end)/MSI B150M Pro-VH/Gigabyte B150M-D3H etc.
3. BenQ GW2470H (VA)/Acer R241Y (IPS) etc.

Hi, need recommendations for a new mid tower
Budget - rm 150

Parts to consider - using Hyper 212 and a modular psu

Etc - good air flow

Saw a lot of recommendations for segotep and tecware, are these casing good?
*
Tecware and Segotep were chosen mostly due to their attractive pricing.

Your budget is somehow restricting you from getting other brands, Armageddon or Segotep would be your choice if your mobo is ATX, Tecware F3 (within your budget) is a mATX chassis.

Of course there are still other brands available, you can try to search the market for the availability.

Hardware to re-use is "none" and monitor resolution is 1440p, so you are planning to get a 1440p or you already owned one?
