i was using maxis for more than 2 yrs...but lately the speed n connection started to suck big time...so...now am into P1....so far soo gooooood...
*
the recent "sucks big time" you're experiencing is that Maxis DNS has problems in getting our requested page, hence my complaints on Maxis DNS and resorting to use openDNS.

a free DNS server hosted at Europe solves all the problems when using a paid DNS (maxis). what a shame.

QUOTE(LokiD.d.G @ Sep 5 2009, 01:35 AM)
I could argue otherwise, but seeing as it is pointless, I'll concede the point.

In any case, I agree that the Maxis sales people are incompetent at best. When applying for the wired broadband, they somehow got my application mixed up and that resulted in me having to go back to their center in Sunway Pyramid to reapply. Though on a lighter note, their sales rep informed me that Maxis wired has no fair usage policy. I.e. The download quota is unlimited. Hooray.
*
so you're using maxis wired now? congratz biggrin.gif

btw, not many people knew about the wired broadband. and i had many experience on getting farked up at maxis SC:

1. billing problem
2. address problem
3. WTF-is-this-shit-i-donno-there's-wired-broadband problem

shakehead.gif

luckily the broadband itself is good.

Not quite yet. I just reapplied yesterday, i.e. Friday evening. Seeing as Monday is a holiday, the soonest I'll be able to get said wired broadband is on Tuesday. Hopefully nothing goes wrong with the application this time around. Though, truth be told, it wouldn't surprise me at all if something did.

3. WTF-is-this-shit-i-donno-there's-wired-broadband problem

Succinctly put. Couldn't agree more myself.

well, i hope you'll enjoy the wired broadband WITHOUT MUCH HASSLE laugh.gif

also, keep in mind, if the Service and DSL is up, but u can't go into any page, try obtaining the DNS IP from openDNS.

maxis DNS usually sucks during public holiday where everyone is at home (e.g Merdeka) but not during Festive holiday (e.g Raya, CNY)

Hi guys. I've got another query.

How good is the modem/router supplied by Maxis? Lets say I want to have my router on the ground floor, and my PCs on the first floor? Will it still be able to function efficiently? Or should I consider getting another router or even a new modem+router?

maxis's modem is for one PC only. for additional PCs u have to buy a switch or a wifi router or just replace it with an ADSL wifi router. smile.gif

btw the modem is Aztech DSL 605E.

Bummer. So, would a Belkin wireless N router be compatible with it? I'm quite clueless when it comes to the question of wireless networks. Hehe.

erm.. bro..
this based on my experience..
I got one Belkin modem+router 2in1.. I try to use with maxis wired.. cant connect at all (all the setting are correct)..
I thought my belkin got problem.. I bring over my friend house and try using with streamyx..
no problem at all.. doh.gif
so my advice, use back maxis modem and buy another router should good enough
last time I using that modem, on for 24/7 no problem at all thumbup.gif
btw, any router will do..

Thanks for the reply. I happen to be privy to the knowledge that the Belkin modem+router 2 in 1 models are all incompatible with Maxis fixed line solutions, unfortunately. Though as you said, any wireless router should do. And since Belkin is offering a lifetime warranty on their N routers, I think I'll fork out some extra cash and go with that.

zz, the modem can't withstand heat.

after several hours, speed degrades and fluctuates to almost 1/2. sweat.gif

Perhaps a change is warranted, then. I'll put it through some stress tests soon. If it disappoints, then I'll start keeping an eye out for modem+router 2 in 1 models that are compatible with Maxis wired broadband.

That doesn't sound promising. So, I'll have to hope that the Aztech router Maxis provides can rough it out well enough for my needs. That way I will only need to acquire a new router.

P.S. I must have said something that the Maxis people didn't find very flattering. I say this because I haven't been able to access their HSDPA service in the past two days. Extremely frustrating having to rely on the much slower EDGE service.
